It's hard to write a review this glowing without the slightest apprehension that someone else will go here and be disappointed; that being said, after my experience here, it's nearly impossible to imagine this place being anything short of amazing. To begin with, the service was impeccable- the staff was friendly, helpful, and constantly looking for ways to improve our dining experience. The food itself was similarly fantastic; providing us a great blend of tasty and imaginative cuisine. Every dish (and there were many of them if you include the complimentary amuse-bouches) was a creative blend of flavors and textures. The restaurant was also very accommodating with regards to dietary restrictions (gluten-free in my case), which is always a big plus. To top it all off, while the restaurant was certainly not inexpensive in an absolute sense (€59 for a 4 course meal), it was excellent value as the dining experience was truly top notch. Miss this one and you will miss an absolutely top rate dining experience. I was here with a large international group and I have to say this was one of the best meals I have ever had. We started with a salmon carpaccio which was to die for, followed by celeriac cream soup with ravioli which was also exceptional. This was followed by veal filet which was done perfectly medium rare, tender and a real treat. Last a creme brulee with thyme and berries which was a perfect finish to an extraordinary meal. I don't give five stars often but Villa Mare deserves it. The service was extraordinary, the setting superb and overall an absolutely five star dining experience not to be missed. read more
