I was here in mid December and there was a noticeable lack of warmth from the heating in the room -- even at maximum temperature of Five. The slight chill that lingered throughout my two night stay here made the experience of soft beds and poor lighting much worse. The management is obviously economizing at the customer's expense. The hotel interior reminds me of the type of hotel a mid level Tour Director contracts for his or her traveling group - one that's neither good, nor bad. Parking is a squeeze. Staffing is limited. The hotel is showing its age and is tired just like some of its patrons, including myself. Thats all the more reason to insure it is something more welcoming and not just an average place to stay.

Clean, comfortable, quiet and unassuming, the Excelsior is an old school small hotel. Its floor…read moreplan is ongepotchket - because it's been built onto and/or combined. It's off the main island of Lübeck - a 10 minute walk to the Holstentor. Breakfast buffet was included. And because we had to leave at 6am to get to the airport, they were kind enough to let us grab breakfast while they were still setting up; that was very much appreciated. Parking is available - there are about a dozen spots free in front of the hotel, and an honor system garage for 10€ a night. Hotel access is by a steep flight of about 8 steps - hauling luggage is annoying. All in all though, I liked it. Like I said, old school. Nothing hipster at all.

Ibis Lübeck city isn't some fancy hotel, but it got pretty modern look and quite cosy as well. The…read morehotel itself is a two stars hotel, but that actually didn't mean the hotel was not good. In fact, I found it quite nice. The hotel isn't so big, but it still got a small bar, which next to the restaurant there got here, close to reception also got a computer that for people who might needs. There is a bus stop could take people right to the center of Lübeck, around 5 minutes. Sure, if you like you can walk on foot as well, it took me around 13 mins to get to Holstentor. The hotel room which I was staying was actually quite a nice one. I found it really clean and comfortable, and the whole looked really nice, I think it was probably one of the nicest rooms here. The design of the bathroom kind of remind me the men's room I saw in Deutsche Bann, but an upgrade version of that, really practical. There was no safe in the room, need to go to the reception for that. The procedure was quite simple. The breakfast of the hotel was alright, it wasn't super a lot options, but they got most all the them, Fruits, Cereals, breads, bacons and so on. There was even a small section for gluten free food and a Waffle machine for the guests, people could just DIY their very own waffle, quite cool. They offer free WIFI to use for the guests as well. The staff was quite friendly, I have a nice stay here. The price of the hotel room was alright, week days are much cheaper. For a business or short staying this could be a cool choice.
