I absolutely loved staying at Villa Le Luci. It's in a darling little town, Castagneto Carducci, nestled up on a hillside with a beautiful view of the countryside and the ocean. There are quite a few little beach towns nearby to visit, too.
We had the Belvedere (Italian for "beautiful view") room upstairs, and our friends were in the suite (bedroom plus living room with a fold-out couch) downstairs. Our room did indeed have a beautiful view out on a tiny little balcony, accessible through a small door. It was on the third floor, so we had to walk up two flights of stairs (one of them quite narrow), which wasn't a problem for us, but might be for some people.
Our room was a nice size, with a small bathroom. The shower was tiny and didn't drain very well, the towels were a bit scratchy (air dried), and the bed was not the most comfortable ever and was a bit creaky, but those were my only complaints, and they were more than outweighed by the charm of the place.
The host was very friendly and helpful and gave us a tour when we arrived. They have water bottles (still and sparkling) available for free in the evening, and a variety of snacks and drinks available any time for purchase on the honor system.
Each morning, they served a beautiful breakfast buffet in the kitchen--a meat and cheese, assortment of freshly made cakes and breads, fruit, yogurt, cereal, and orange juice. Once we had filled our plates, we sat out on the patio, which was absolutely beautiful, with a great view. They brought us cappuccino, espresso, or tea, and toast with jam, marmalade, and honey.
They do have a large dog, Rocco. He seemed nice enough but we were warned to be careful since he didn't know us.
The parking and wifi were free. read more
