No ants, roaches, fleas, etc. The towels smelled like bleach. The stairwell didn't smell like pee as stairwells are inclined to do. 2) Comfort. A/C worked. Though the shower head was even with my nose, the water was hot, clean, with good pressure. Though the bed was harder than Epstein at a Build-a-Bear, I slept fine, especially with the thin pillows, which I fold around so much at night I end up with a beautiful origami swan in the morning. The room was not cramped. Best of all it had a "wood" floor, so I could walk around barefoot. 3) Customer Service. The dude was friendly. They accommodated my late check-in (9pm) without giving my room away. 4) Wifi. It worked. 5) Other things I liked: coffeemaker, refrigerator, iron/ironing board, free parking. I may have had a microwave, I don't recall. I liked the rolling desk chair, though I doubt the people below me did. A few notes. Noise. I had the last room on a Monday night, and never heard my neighbors, though that might be different on a weekend. Outside, you might hear the cars on the nearby freeway or pneumatic tools from the mechanic next door. Parking. It's free! (yay) But there were only five tight spots in the back that require a 16 point turn to get out. The tenants on the bottom floor parked their cars in front of their room so the lane to the lot is very tight. View. I looked out my window and saw it was going to be a Goodyear. And a Michelin. And a Firestone. Yes, it is a mountain view: a mountain of tires next door. And the intersection traffic. And the freeway a block away. It's probably too expensive for them to plant tall cyprus trees on the border of their property, so maybe they could just paint trees on the window. Location. Well, it's freeway close, that's for sure. It's across the street from a liquor store, which is handy. There's a taco place open past midnight within 400 feet. And a lot of chain fast food restaurants and coffee places are a block down Foothill. Other things to see in beautiful Sylmar, nicknamed the "top of Los Angeles", which got its ironic name for the latin words of forest (silva) and sea (mar): Nethercutt Museum (classic autos and musical instruments), the famous Casades spillway that ends the 340 mile journey of LA Aqueduct water, and the piece of fallen highway from the 1971 earthquake that the Doobie Brothers posed with for their album The Captain and Me. You can watch the Sylmar Hang Gliding Association on Gridley Street near Shimshaw. They have equestian centers and recreation parks. And just a mile from Value Inn is the San Fernando Swap Meet (Th-Sun). Considering this in the adult film capital of the world I have to wonder what they swap there.

It was pricey for what it was, but what isn't these days? All in all, no complaints.

This hotel was perfect since I really just needed a place to stay, but it is a budget hotel, so keep that in mind when you book. The bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning worked maybe a little too well. As other reviewers have noted, the carpet is definitely outdated and there are definitely parts of the hotel that are showing signs of wear. Other reviews mentioned the stacked parking, but when we came it wasn't very busy so we were able to find spots without having to worry about blocking anybody in or having to move our car. However I imagine if you come on a weekend it's a little more difficult. The area around is a little rough, but the garage is heavily monitored and we were able to leave stuff in our car without issue. We asked for a quiet room which didn't face the street, which we got, but I think the room faced some sort of playground because in the morning we would hear children laughing and playing so it wasn't so quiet in the early afternoon (luckily we were not in the room for too long) I appreciate how there is a microwave and a decent size fridge in the room which made it great for when we brought food along. One bummer is that we never got housekeeping. They stopped by really early and we told them to come back, but they never did. Since we were only there for two nights it wasn't a huge deal, but it would have been nice to get our rooms cleaned.

I booked and paid for a room…read morewith my own credit card because I was trying to help a homeless woman have a safe place to stay. She arrived, decided she didn't want to stay, and left. The hotel was made fully aware of what happened and that nobody would be staying in the room, yet they still refused to refund the first night. Hotels.com was understanding enough to refund the second night, but the hotel would not make any exception for the first. I understand cancellation policies exist, but considering the circumstances and the fact that the room was not being used, I hoped the hotel would show some compassion and at least offer a partial refund or courtesy credit. Instead, I ended up losing my own money for trying to help someone in need. Very disappointing experience.

I stayed at this hotel for one night and had a very unsettling experience. We drove seven hours and…read moreonly stayed here because it was close to CSUN, where my daughter had orientation. The TV turned on by itself at 1am, 3am, and 5am, and the alarm clock also turned on randomly during the night. It was nearly impossible to get any rest. We checked in at midnight and got settled in just before the TV turned on the first time. My daughter had to be up just after 5am, so she got no sleep because of the TV issues. When I brought this up to the lady at the front desk, she knew which room I was staying in without me even mentioning it and said other people have brought that issue up. She stated the TV is somehow set on a timer and they can't seem to fix it. Why weren't we notified at checking in? Why wasn't the TV unplugged? The next morning, I noticed a bite on my palm. I showed it to the owner, as she was coincidentally on the phone with pest control. The pest control guy told her I was bit by a mosquito. Not long after, I noticed another bite on my finger as well as bites all over my forearm. Upon leaving the parking lot, another guest told me he was bit all over his body and the hotel refunded his stay. Despite these issues, there was no offer of a discount or compensation, just an apology. I expected better from a professional establishment, especially when it comes to health, safety, and sleep quality. I will never return nor recommend this place to anyone.

The pillows were dirty as well. They had stains of dirt and unsanitary. The restroom door couldn't even close. It was hard to shut it. To make it even worse they allow people all night to hang out on the sidewalk. It was annoying because you can hear everything. People drinking smoking and breaking stuff. It's 2am and I'm trying to sleep. I wasn't happy about having to hear people arguing and fighting outside at 2am. And lastly the parking. You're telling me there was 0 parking. Like how do you wanna run a hotel with no parking. Then they tell me to park on the street. You want me to leave my car outside the gate with those people arguing? They have 2 spot for employees but no one using it and they won't allow you to park there. I had to risk getting towed and moved my car after someone left the parking lot. That is a terrible experience and will never stay here again.
