Prebook in advance to avoid disappointment!…read more I booked this for our anniversary meal. Despite turning up on time we had to queue outside for at least 25 minutes with several others waiting for people to finish their meals. Once inside the waiter was super apologetic, and you could tell he needed a drink himself. The restaurant was very cosy with interesting pieces of art on the walls. A nice very traditional feel about the place. Anyway the starters consisted of various seafood and meat dishes to which you can size up as a main on average pricing of £7 to £15. I had the pork cheeks and himself the clam spaghetti. While we waited we were presented with canapés consisting of cheese and carmalised onions..the other truffle oil on crackers. These were a very tasty treat. The spaghetti was well made and the sauce light smothering the tiny clams. My pork cheek was super tender, and it lay perched on perfect mash, panchetta, black pudding, pickled onions in a tomato broth. Various bits of bread was also served to mop up this juice. Only criticism clam meat is sooo small in this country so not worth the battle against the shells for such a tiny reward. For mains I had the seafood special which was a bowl filled with mussels, clams, scallop, king prawns and longuistines swimming in a broth and fresh pasta. This was super tasty, cooked to perfection and presented nicely. My only gripe was I only had one at most two scallops. My other half chose the lamb which again was super tender, in a homely bed of mash, sauce and root vegetables. Super simple dish but everything was cooked perfectly. I was feeling quite full but the orange panacotta with orange sorbet was too tasty to miss. It didn't disappoint. Overall despite the disappointing beginning the service was impeccable and food really tasty. However I did expect a bit more in terms of creativity considering this was a Michelin star restaurant. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy your seafood especially.

The two bar meals areas were pretty full, so I ate outside. This is in July. I only had to wait four minutes for my order to arrive, beautifully cooked haddock in batter, proper chips and mushy peas with mint.(see the photo!) I thought that it was reasonable at £7.95 and one of half a dozen cooked lunches at that price. They also do a two course meal (for the over 60s) for £5.95. There are also a good range of lighter options for lunch. Puddings however were disappointing, they sounded great, but were £5.45. One of the things which I should have born in mind is that, because it is such a tourist hot spot, normal prices are generally suspended. As a result the main courses were cheap, but the puddings the usual!! I enjoyed my bitter and there was a good selection of real ales, and also wines. The Queen's Head also does bed and breakfast. It costs £45 per person per night at the moment, according to the village website.

All the food was exceptionally delicious. The lamb was cooked to perfection, being incredibly tender and flavorful, complemented by a specially crafted red wine jus. My daughter's pasta had the sauce perfectly balanced. Not content with just one portion, she ordered another and ate it all up. My wife's daily soup was praised for its delicious and rich taste, devoid of any harsh flavors. Both the chef and the restaurant deserve a five-star rating.

At first we were a little confused because The Lamplighter looked like a lodge guest house, but we quickly realized that there was a separate entrance to the dining restaurant portion of the building (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#ThGBtbyE49smFRKjKtZlVQ). We were given the choice to eat in the room with the bar (which was dimly lit) or the purely restaurant portion (more brightly lit). Since we weren't going to drink, we chose the restaurant room. Our waiter was very quick and efficient to set everything up (including a slab of stone as a place-mat for each person) (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#vsemIfn9O7ZNy9iY47ht_w) and give us our waters and menus. However, it was the manager/owner (we couldn't figure out what his role was, but he was definitely a superior to the waiters) who came out to introduce the menu and the specials of the day. He mentioned something about the restaurant having their last fresh "flat fish" for their fish special of the day, but we were initially uninterested and didn't pay too much attention. However, after skimming through the menu (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#_DsCh1Kr6PQEt2Yq5mjwBg), my dad decided he wanted to know more about the fish again, and the waiter called over the manager/owner again and he was happy to launch into detail about the fish and how he was planning on cooking and serving it (he was VERY nice and was very eager to make any changes to the dish if we requested it). We decided to go for the fish, St. Clemente's Chicken (salad), and Corn Beef Hash Cake, and when we placed our order, the manager/owner was very polite and even thanked us for ordering each and every dish. Definitely memorable customer service! Flat Fish of the day (served with lemon and butter with a bowl of salad, coleslaw, and potato salad on the side) (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#hJ_BpvMasz5v_IixNZAEmA) - This was very yummy! We were SO glad we decided to snatch up their last fresh flat fish of the day. The fish was definitely fresh and tender and tasted amazing with the herbed butter and lemon on top! The salad was very refreshing and the dressing was to die for (I'm a big fan of vinaigrettes and this one hit the right spot!). My family was fighting to stake a claim on the last little pieces of this dish! Corn Beef Hash Cake (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#KCtVTGjrAc_kSpnx1Lx2hQ) - This dish was also very good. The corn beef is served with beans and soaked in a bed of some tomato sauce with a small bed of salad on top. The meat was very tender and flavorful and the tomato sauce complemented it very well. St. Clemente's Chicken (served with a salad) (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/URxAFUKoT_lEQdRyIzT3Qw?select=KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w#KZeVcUzE6D1JbTy7aKM90w) - This is not your typical chicken salad. There is a unique dressing that rounds up this dish perfectly. There was the perfect acidity and sweetness to the dressing that made the dish light but very flavorful. The chicken was very juicy and tender as well, and my mom was very curious about the herbs they used to make the chicken so tasty. After we finished eating, we were in a hurry to go to a grocery store before it closed, so I went to the bar to pay for our bill. After receiving our change, the manager/owner rushed out from the kitchen and started apologizing for not checking up on us while we were eating (we ate pretty fast and I guess he wasn't expecting us to finish so early). It was very nice and considerate of him and we left the restaurant feeling like we were very valued customers at this place. TL;DR: Amazing service (you will be treated like kings and queens here), good food, and a very enjoyable atmosphere! Definitely a recommended place to eat in Windermere!

While the downstairs appears to be a quick cafe area, upstairs has more of a restaurant feel to it. It even has its own bar on this level. The bathrooms and kitchen are on the 3rd level. First impressions were that it seemed a little bit more upscale than most other places in the area, and I have a feeling that on a Friday/Saturday night this will be a date night hotspot. The staff have matching uniforms and all had accents. It gave it a real nice touch. There is a full service bar, however due to the fine English cold weather, I just stuck with a cup of tea, so I can't comment on the alcohol quality. Our group jumped straight into mail meals, in which the menu is literally a book. They could probably do with trimming it by 50% and still would have a nice variety). Anyways, while trying to remember what everyone had ordered, the 3 items that stuck with me were: pizza - authentic, fresh, flavorful and quite large. Buffalo chicken wrap - nice portion size, Amazing taste. Mackerel - I have to be honest, I've never tried it before so I'm not sure what it's supposed to taste like, however, it was very very good to me! We had many other dishes at our table and everyone left happy. Once again, the portion sizes were more than enough. So you won't leave hungry! For the meals listed above, you're looking in the 8 -12 pound range for prices. If I was to go back to this area, I would most definitely return for the chicken wrap. It was fantastic!

We did just that on the way up from Manchester recently and had a superb, revitalising meal after a testing day. My brother in law and I both had one of the homemade Buccleuch Beef burgers with Stilton served with beer batter onion rings, relish, coleslaw and deliciously crisp chips (fries). Very nice indeed, with a portion size for good, hearty appetites. My Mum, who is a starter fanatic, ordered the sharing platter for 2 as a main course and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've forgotten what my Sister ordered, apologies, but we all commented on how tasty our food had been. We were dining in the evening and there were small candles on the table, which made for a relaxing atmosphere. Declan our Waiter and Honor behind the bar were fun & attentive hosts. It was just what we needed as slightly weary travellers and gave us the impetus required for the last leg of the journey. I'd recommend a visit!
