Loved Shady Cafe!…read more This was my first Lebanese experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's clearly a popular spot with the locals too. We got there about 15 minutes before the noon lunch rush and were served almost immediately, but by the time we sat down there was a line all the way to the street! It probably didn't help that us Americans couldn't read the menu and our translator had to order all of our food :-) This is a premade type of place so food is already prepped you order at the counter and your plate is done by the time you get to the end of the line. This makes it a great spot for lunch. I had the falafel, potatoes, and some sort of cucumber feta salad... all delicious. I could've eaten an entire plate of those potatoes with the garlic sauce :) Highly recommend!

The flavors of shawarma and shish tawook (really it was more like chicken shawarma) were delicious! And the garlic sauce! Yum! I was hesitant to try it because of not many reviews or photos but I am glad I did. There were not many people in the restaurant when I walked in either but several came in and got Take out. I would definitely return.

Our orders were 2 x lamb Gyros, one beef and cheese, and one chicken. Ordering at the counter was quick and all of our orders were ready for garnishing in under 5-minutes. The veggies were fresh, the sauce flavourful, and the flatbread warm and wonderfully crisped. The sandwich fit perfectly into our hands and went down deliciously. About half way through our meals everyone agreed that what we were having tasted like 'another one'. However, by the time we were done everyone had their hunger satisfied. (We were a bit disappointed that another one was no longer needed.) Decor is utilitarian yet on the warm side, the restaurant is not large but we there was enough seating for our party of 4 to sit together comfortably. We'd definitely come back.

There were pita wraps on the menu as well as couscous, but my choice was the mixed meat platter, which came with sliced chicken breast and a meaty, tender slice of roasted lamb leg, along with fried potatoes tossed in seasoning, a spicy aioli for dipping, and three different kinds of salads: a white cabbage slaw, a carrot slaw with cranberries, and a mixed bean salad. The chicken was on the dry side, but the lamb was tender, the potatoes were nicely seasoned, and the salads were all fresh and delicious. Though slow, the service was super friendly, and the atmosphere felt exotic with oriental decorations throughout the dining room.

It did not look dirty or messy, was clean by since you have to take steps down to get in. No windows it was dark inside but there are chairs to sit outside. The disappointment here is the food. The person serving was actually super nice but the food was not authentic in how the chicken or the beef was seasoned and cooked, same with the garlic sauce and hummus. It was definitely not authentic so that was very disappointing especially for the price range. I would say, look for another spot for shawarmas as the taste here is lacking.
