If you're planning on visiting Barcelona, I highly recommend that you make a wine tasting reservation here. Recaredo Winery is located in a historic Barcelona wine valley called The Penedes Wine Region. They are pioneers in biodynamic, viticulture, and is a step beyond organic farming. Their vineyards are handled with care by hand without the use of industrial machinery, chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or fungicides. They also use old-fashioned, traditional techniques of disgorgement when making wines. It's still done by true artisans, who expel the lees manually at the naturally cool temperatures of the cellars. What also makes their wines unique is the use of their grape juice (instead of using processed sugar) during the fermentation process. Recaredo's long-aged sparkling wines spend a minimum of 2.5 to 20 years in their dark cellars and are only aged with natural cork stoppers. Their dedication and commitment to their community, land, traditional techniques, and quality wines are what makes Recaredo's Corpinnat Sparkling Wines exceptional! I highly recommend a visit if you are staying in the Barcelona area.

Their tour that includes a train/trolley ride through the underground caves is so fun, impressive, and all in all, very informative. The grounds of the winery are gorgeous, after the tour we hung out in the garden, where we had lunch and more cava. All staff was very nice and attentive the guests. I felt that the pricing of the tour and wine were reasonable - I remember paying $18-20 for a bottle of delicious Cava. Nothing like the Sonoma/Napa prices! Heck, even lunch was fairly priced, plus you get beautiful views of the mountains and the winery. FYI: there are other wineries to explore in this area. also, the Monserrat monestary was only a 45 minute drive from Cavas Codorniu.

First, you'll need to call a taxi upon arrival at the train station in town. We were not prepared for this and it was a headache, so just make sure you have that number in your phone ahead of time. The train and taxi are well worth the trip once you get there. Codorniu is a cava lover's oasis. Not only is the property picturesque and historic, but the staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. After touring the stunning grounds, you'll get to take an underground tram through the property. Eventually, you'll arrive at a tasting room where you can try several of their cavas. It's basically an adult playground and I can guarantee you won't regret your visit!

We had asked our guide to take us to small boutique wineries that are doing something special and this place certainly fit the bill. They are located in the little town that is the center of Cava production and just up the street from the larger producers like Frexinet. You need to have an appointment to visit and the cost for the tasting is 18€. We learned a bit about Cava product during the tour deep into the Caves well below the surface that was finished with a pleasant seated tasting of a number of styles of their sparkling wine. The caves seem to go on forever with bottles as far as the eyes can see. Our guide clearly explained everything about the production process and their different types of cava and allowed plenty of time for questions. They were the only tour that allowed us to take pictures in the caves (without the flash of course). At the end you can taste about six different varieties. They also brought out some tasty snacks: a local sausage, olives, and crackers. It was a lot for a snack! I bought six bottles and wanted to buy more. Out of all the cava I tasted on this trip, Gramona was my favorite. The cava is so creamy. Their ice wine is also delicious. You get to taste one (Riesling on our visit) during the tasting, but I also inquired about the Gewürztraminer since I love this grape. She let us taste it too. They were so different, but I loved both and took a bottle of each home. They also have a Jasmine wine that is unique and lovely. If you're on the fence about which place to tour, choose Gramona. Others think it's delicious as well as we even saw Disfrutar serving it up a few days later during the first course for some tables. This is a fabulous cava and an excellent tour!
