Someone called me from here today. They asked for someone else, and refused to give me any information about who they were or why they were calling. Then, the woman hung up. I called back. We have been battling some identity fraud, so I thought maybe they were just a collection agency we hadn't discovered yet (don't share your SSN with your SO if you're not married). I proceeded to be harangued and harassed by the second woman, who refused to tell me the name of the company, the nature of the call, an address where I could send a cease and desist letter. I dropped a "damn" and she hung up. Called back 20 minutes later, and someone answered and hung up. Awful company. Do not get magazines from them. It is not worth the stress. They call constantly to talk about your current subscription and to renew. Even after telling a sales rep the certain magazines I did not want to receive anymore, I was still getting them delivered in the mail. Spoke with Gary (Sales Rep) I told him I did not want to renew or receive any new magazines and why, he told me "you are not making any sense." He barely let me finish a sentence and when I asked to speak with someone else he told me there was not one else to talk to because he was the supervisor in his department. This is the absolute worst company, with the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. For the first few months Of my subscription I did not even receive the magazines I requested, and when I asked to cancel my subscription they said I could not. So I've been paying off this company for magazines I do not want. The people are incredibly rude and have so much attitude. Received a telemarketing call from this company and they had a lot of magazines that I currently purchase at the store. The telemarketers were very respectful and did not make me feel pressured. I was a little upset about having to get confirmed twice but it turned out to be a good thing because I was able to change the titles on the second call. I received a call from Viking Magazine and they said I won an Ipad since I signed up on some website. (I can't even remember). The man on the phone told me I could be entered into a drawing and get a couple of gift cards for $250. Of course it sounded too good to be true so before I could even say "What's the catch," the man said I had to pay for magazines weekly. I told him I was not interested in the magazines and I don't feel comfortable giving my info out over the phone. He tried to reassure me that he was new and didn't know anything about the payment process. He said it's not a scam but I VERY optimistic about giving anything over the phone! I was transferred to the supervisor and she tried to reiterate what he said and made a couple of jokes. I immediately told her I didn't want the magazines and that I was not giving up my debit/credit card info over the phone. In the meantime, I could hear a whole bunch of other people in the background trying to solicit other callers. She said the same thing about having a safe payment system and that she wasn't even going to charge my card. She said she just wanted to make sure it was an active card...Uhhh, no thanks! I know my card is active and YOU don't need to confirm that for me! I eventually hung up once I realized I wasn't winning a FREE gift and I HAD to buy their stupid magazines. Lied about the manager and where they were at. You could tell they were laughing on tje other end when i called back over and over to get a straight answer. Then was told I'd get a call to cancel. No call. I finally called back today and manger was able to cancel my order with in a min. The whole phone call was less than 90 seconds. Why couldnt this have been done when I called last time? Sometime in early April a phone marketer for this company called my husband's cell phone and told him that he had won a gift certificate plus some magazine subscriptions and took our address, his social security number, debit card number and my cell phone number. I only discovered that he was sold and billed for $948.10 when a late payment notice came to the house via mail. They never sent a confirmation of order, copy of a contract, cancellation form or any other correspondence regarding this. My husband has absolutely no memory of this phone call or transaction as he is disabled with long term diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injury, Hydrocephalus, & Asphasia. This is all documented by his doctors and he has been disabled since 1992. Due to these conditions he is unable to comprehend the very magazines he was sold. He is not competent to conduct financial or business transactions outside of simple cash purchases for himself. I hold Power of Attorney for him and conduct all our business. This past weekend we called the customer service of this company to cancel this service and they played back the recording of the original phone call in which he is clearly slow to answer and is not really understanding what is happening. Nevertheless they are now calling him constantly and harassing us both for payment. The customer service person responded to all my questions by parroting my questions back to me, belittled my husband and myself and refused to work with me in any way to correct this situation. I received a cold call offering a $250 Walmart gift card if I agreed to sign up for a subscription. I was told I could cancel at any time within 30 days. When I called to cancel because I didn't like any of the magazines I'd received and never got the gift card as promised, I was told I couldn't because I'd exceeded the 14 day limit(I hadn't even had time to receive the magazines and determine if I wanted to continue a subscription by then!), of which I'd never been informed. When I explained that I was not given this information, they were rude and pointed out that it was in microscopic print on the confirmation letter I received. I argued again that this was never brought to my attention over the phone or else I'd have never continued with the subscription! In a very apathetic and cynical tone, they said they'd let me listen to the initial phone call. I figured I'd been scammed and there was nothing I could do. When they finally sent the gift card, it was a number of gift cards (totaling $250) to stores I never use with amounts that would never cover the full price of a single item. They called back months later to renew my account and offered to narrow down the number of magazines I actually did want for a reduced monthly price. I agreed and they said they'd have a n account supervisor call me to set it up. That never happened. When I fell on financial hardship, I called back to see if there was any way possible I could cancel or get a reduced subscription to save money, the rep was rude. After hearing my explanation, he very brashly told me I needed to revisit my listening skills and proceeded to twist my words around against me. Their manipulation and bullying tactics are unprecedented! I have never had a worse customer service experience! They are masters at missdirection, changing the subject when asked about cancellation then call you twice a day on the house phone and cell phone insisting that there is not excuse for not cancelling within 14 days. I tried to cancel after only a few days realizing my enormous mistake of joining in the first place but they put me on hold and disconnected. Then after calling back, they insisted that I change magazines rather than stopping and unfortunately, I agreed without realizing that the 14 clock continued to tick from the first day. I received a call from these guys yesterday afternoon. The representative stated that I had been entered into a million dollar drawing but immediately started asking me if I have an active VISA card and which bank do I use. I asked him who was the sponsor for the drawing and he stated Vicking Magazine Services. I replied that I do not give any bank information over the phone and the representative immediately hung up. I thought it was a scam so I researched the company today. It turns out that the company is legit however the drawing is a catch and hook just to get you to sign up for their magazine services. My recommendation is to stay away from anyone who immediately asks about your money and banking information over the phone. read more

I just got done on the phone with this company after 45 minutes of a guy trying to explain to me how much I was going to be billed. I thought it was going to be a good deal, $47.94 for a few months magazines. When the last person called me to discuss everything one more time, she informed me it was $47.94 PER MONTH for a few months. I am glad I was listening close because they would have gotten away with it. Also, I was already charged before I was even off the phone when I requested to not be billed. The people were nice, and I understand they are just doing their job, but I am a stay at home mother on a tight income with two kids and attending college. I fell into this con, unfortunately. I have been paying them for the past 14 months and I have dumped over $400 dollars into some useless magazines. I have told them to take me off automatic payment a hundred times and they said they cannot and will not do that. They force you to pay them. They constantly call me and try to trick me into extending my contract by saying something along the lines that the payment is going up and in order to keep my payment as is I must act now. What they don't tell you is that you are pretty much agreeing to lock in the prices by signing up to pay for another year or two. I would compare it to leaving a leaky faucet on in your bank account, money just drips out and it keeps going. Please do not sign up for this endless paper trail. It's such a waste of paper because they send you so many magazines. Even ones you didn't ask for!! I keep getting yachting, fishing, and science magazines. I filed a complaint with the BBB on this "business". VMS responded to my complaint and a few quotes from that are below. This is my response back to them... I would like to set the record straight. I believe that Viking Magazine should be held responsible for their actions and wrong doings. Not only to me, but also for everyone else that has been sucked into this scam. Even though my address has changed on file, I do still live at my previous address also. I do still receive part of my mail at my previous address, and no, I have not received any magazines. I did send an email and tried calling quite a few times to have my account cancelled. The answer I received was a no and was hung up on. Not only did I receive horrible attitudes from the Viking Magazine employees, but I also received horrible attitudes from the collection agency employees as well. I tried twice to work something out. The response I received was basically since I was not doing exactly as they wanted me to they "noted it in my account that I am not willing to cooperate" and then was hung up on. I also have a phone record of all calls that were made to my phone since April 12, 2013. It was also stated that "Since June 1st, 2013 the collection agency has made two attempts to contact Mrs. Hawkins (6/5/13 and 6/21/13). At no point were calls made, either by VMS or the third party collection agency, excessive or more than once in a given day". Where my records show there were clearly more than two calls made in that given period of time, there were in fact 7 attempts made to contact me from two different phone numbers. One being VMS and the other is the collection agency. VMS also stated that ,"Neither VMS nor the third party collection agency we utilize report to any of the credit bureaus". I want to know WHY you needed my social security number if you were never going to use it to report to the credit agencies? I do want my "account" cancelled and no negative impact on my credit what so ever. The only resolution I will be satisfied with is having my account null and void and VMS shut down. This is not a legitimate business. Not only does VMS lie about their actions, they also collect your social security number from you that they do not use, and I want to know why or what they used it for. CONTACT THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU TO GET VIKING MAGAZINE TO STOP HARASSING YOU! I agreed to pay $15 a month for about 4 magazines. But the first charge was $49.90 a month and so was the second month. So I called to cancel and they said I couldn't cancel because it was past the 15 day cancel period. I told them I would terminate my bank card if they didn't cancel and they still refused. They had already charged me 49.90 the same month I wanted to cancel and after the call they took 49.90 out of my account AGAIN!!! I terminated the card and went to my bank. My bank opened an investigation and got my money back. But it didn't stop there. They did send me some magazines but the weren't even ones I agreed to receive. And they kept calling me to pay $800!!! I wasn't going to pay that. They then sent my info to a debt collector and I sent them info that my bank had found me not at fault in this. Then the debt collector sent word back that for $400 dollars this matter would be settled between Viking Magazine and myself. I refused and told them I was contacting the Better Business Bureau and for them to stop contacting me or it would be considered harassment. That got the debt collectors off my back and I contacted BBB. Not until I contacted BBB did Viking Magazine Inc. stop calling and FINALLY canceled my "subscription" to there crappy service. read more

This company is HORRIBLE! Their customer service is so bad. I almost bought into thier little trick but they lied to me about what they were going to do. I spent over an hour on the phone with them and they lied to me about payment. First they said one price. Then they said another price. Then when I asked them to start payment on a certian date they went ahead and processed the payment! WHAT!?? I was told that I could make my own date and then they took it anyway! I found this service when I was doing some serious online bargain shopping. I signed up for some free gift cards, and then the next thing you know I have a telemarketer from this company calling me. The first guy I talked to was very nice, made sure everything I needed was taken care of, so I decided to order some magazines. Then, he had to transfer me to someone else to review my order. This second guy was nice, but kind of rushed through everything. Then transferred me over to yet ANOTHER person, who was to finish my order out. The last guy talked so fast, I could barely understand him. Then threw in how much I was really going to have to pay, and of course. I didn't even hear him because he was talking so fast. Needless to say, when I called and cancelled, the account customer service rep was very rude.
