The eggs and smoked salmon was quite good with the dense bread. The rhubarb cake and brownie were delicious too. They only have regular coffees and teas here - not the full range of coffee choices.

And for this reason, we ended up at the lovely Baroniet Rosendal Cafe on a recent weekend trip. On the lush grounds of Baroniet Rosendal, a historic estate and manor situated in Kvinnherad in Hordaland county, Norway dating back to the 1660's. There is a small entrance fee to the grounds and gardens that will allow you access to the cafe, it is worth it. We did not opt to tour the estate, but it is a very nice site from the outside, regardless. We found ourselves enjoying gorgeous plates of salmon, sausage, salads and a bottle of rosé along with many other revelers. There is a converted greenhouse with dining tables as well as indoor at the cafe and a covered middle. The cover comes in handy as Norway is known for its vast amount of rain showers, and even though it was raining during our lunch it was wonderful none the less. The service was friendly and efficient. You order and pay at the counter and then your hot meals are brought to your table. The menu is short, but robust and very high quality. My salmon plate was delicious and filling. The crowd is mainly tourists in hiking/touring gear, so the setting is very casual. However, you can dine in style with white tablecloths and proper stemware and plateware from which to enjoy your meal. Truly beautiful and remote setting. If you are in the area, it's a must.

Excellent. Also ordered the baked salmon ("Laks" in norwegian) and finger potatoes which was a nice sized portion, had perfect seasoning and again cooked the correct amount. I would try one of their pizzas next time. A fresh pour of the pilsner on tap was the perfect temperature. They also had a nice locally made and bottled apple cider. Very friendly folks too! Asked about some advice in returning my rental car in Voss followed by a quick run to the train station and the owner called up his friend who works at Hertz in Voss who was willing to allow me to just drop my car next to the train station. I felt better to drop it at the Hertz location at 8am and he offered to run me over to catch my train at 9. Folks in Norway are amazingly kind! Tasty and Friendly, I'd be back here and recommend you give them a shot! Note their hours are pretty limited during the week. I think they closed at 6pm. but weekend hours were longer. Your food options are very limited in Ulvik (other than the hotel restaurants) so plan ahead.

The brown cheese cheesecake was uniquely delicious. Portions are more than enough. Good service.

"A neighboring clan went on the attack, And stole all the giant coco-yams from the barn out back."…read more Coco-Yam Song, Mountain Goats In a hamlet where the ratio of goats to people is 5:1, you are more likely to find grazing grounds than habitats for human grazing. But no need to get bucky! You won't have to get down on all fours and forage for your fiber along the mountainsides, unless that's what floats your goat. Instead, herd yourself to the Underdal Fjordkafe to chew the cud and ruminate over your travel plans while waiting for the return ferry to Flam. The café has the most unbelievable views one could dream up from the seating area on the deck as it faces the fjords, mountains, and falls. You won't likely see any goats sitting at the tables around you, but you never know...you just might meet a Billy! One of the café's specialties is reindeer meatballs (apologies to Dasher and Dancer), but we could only salivate over others' plates as the cafe had just closed for dinner by the time we arrived. Baaaaad timing on our parts, but luckily their ice cream stand was still open, along with refreshments for sale. With mini ice cream cups in hand and grumbling stomachs, we hungrily asked those at the neighboring table if their meatballs tasted good. They answered, "Totes ma goats!" There is a bathroom way in the back through the attached Eldhuset Museum...we were told we would be on the right trail when we passed the giant goat poster. This goat must have the right stuff that separates the sheep from the goats to be picked out of 500 as the poster boy! Right next to the café is the Underdal Brygge, where you alert the ferry to stop by turning on a flashing yellow light. Don't wait until the last pickup time if you can help it, because the ferry never came for the last call. Luckily the café has wifi, albeit quite spotty, so that we could get a hold of a taxi service to take us back to Flam. 4 hooves in the air for the view alone (5 if I had a fifth), a "meh-eh-eh" for the ice cream, and one head ram for our late arrival. "I ain't got no mouthful, I ain't got no tail." Night Goat, Melvins
