This review is long overdue. We spent two nights in Eidfjord in September at a lovely AirBnB. Our host recommended this restaurant (only one of a handful in the town) so we checked it out on our first night, but it was closed. The note said they would be open the next day, so we called and made a reservation. When we got there on Saturday night, we were the only ones there at first.
The restaurant used to be a house, and now the first floor is the restaurant/bar area, with a few boarding rooms upstairs. The week we were there was the last week they would be open until the spring, since it was the end of the tourist season.
The server/owner was very welcoming and friendly. She told us she and her father own the place, and they renovated it a few years ago. The inside is beautiful, and really cozy and comfortable. There are a few dining tables in the back room, along with a lounge area next to the bar up front.
There was no written menu--the owner just told us the two options they had for the night (a salmon dish and reindeer) as well as a soup and dessert. They also had two local wines and some local beer.
The meal was delicious, and so peaceful. We sat next to the window, which overlooks the fjord. We could see the sun setting while we were eating.
After we finished our meal, we were going to just go back to the AirBnB, but the server convinced us to stick around at the bar. There were two or three other people there, who were clearly locals who come in a lot. We had a few drinks at the bar before we called it a night.
Overall this was a lovely experience, and I highly recommend it if you find yourself in this sleepy cruise town. read more
