It was really dirty inside and first when you walk in it smelled so bad. The gym equipment is old.

Common Ground Crossfit & Yoga - Yoga studio

Common Ground Crossfit & Yoga

(7 reviews)

Finding myself back in Terre Haure for the month of June 2019 to visit my folks, I am brightened to…read moreknow that Kelsey and her sister are still here in this community serving the public one long powerful downward facing dog at a time. Actually, I have come to discover that Common Ground Crossfit & Yoga are celebrating four years of being in business this week. So not only grateful for the random occasion summer weeks that I show up from time to time, Kelsey has posted an honorary wall thanking and commending members that have come for 100+ classes, 200+ classes, 300+ classes....there is even a member that has come for 600+ classes. If my humble Yelp reviews are not enough to sway you to come in and check it out, if such a committed base of clientele coming with such regularity is not a silent shout & high five speaking to the quality of Kelsey and her instructors, I don't know what is. As I said in my initial review almost two years ago, I do not attend Crossfit, so I cannot speak to that portion of the facility and Kelsey's sister who runs it (who kind of seems like a fun, cool bad-ass by the way...as I see her as I enter and slink off to the right side of the studio to attend yoga...those people over there are always working hard!). So being in 100% agreement with what I said on my prior review and also wanting to simply commend Common Ground for their 4 years of business, I would like to stress how I have enjoyed being the occasional client. I live full time in Las Vegas, but have really enjoyed having this option available to me when I am in Terre Haute. Through the MINDBODY app, it is easy to look at their schedule and book classes. Through their website, it is easy to book a 10 pack package to use while I am here. If I lived here, this would be the place I would practice full time. I think what I like most about Common Ground Yoga, as devout yogi of many years, is that Kelsey and her instructors are welcoming of everyone. Classes are not broken up into Level 1, Level 2 or advanced so much (although one of these might pop up from time to time). All classes can accommodate all levels, regardless if you are a devout yogi like me or a newbie. I find this kind of rare in a studio really. I am use to the devision of skills and here the motto is "all are welcome" and it works. I think all attendees to a class (including someone experienced like me), have something to be gained by simply the shared experience of a class that is authentic, connected, rooted and honest. And as Kelsey or another of the instructors as your guide, you can trust that you are being led in a good direction to understand the founding principles of a yoga practice that can stick with you for your first visit as a newbie to 100+, 200+, 300+ or maybe even 600+ visits. Congrats to Kelsey & Common Ground for their 4 years of business.

Common Ground is a gem in Terre Haute! I had been looking for a new yoga studio since coming to…read moreTerre Haute for graduate school. There isn't much to offer in town, but this place has kept me sane. All the teachers are amazing. Never once left a class feeling anything less but happy, rejuvenated, and relaxed no matter what time of day. Would recommend to any and all yogis. Whether new to the area or just passing through.

Evolution Fitness - Class schedule you can find on their website

Evolution Fitness

My bar on gyms is horribly high, so my expectations on anything fitness related is also horribly…read morehigh. I have been exposed to the best of the best in Las Vegas (Lifetime Fitness) and Pure (Hong Kong) over many years. I am a gym rat and thus kind of a spoiled gym rat at that. But my Midwestern roots coupled with knowing it does not take fancy equipment and cool towels provided by my gym to kick your heart rate into HIIT or athletic benefits, I do not need high end to get in a good workout. On this note, I provide Evolution Fitness a solid 3+ on Yelp and would absolutely recommend. When I am in town, I will be back. Drive around to the backside of the standard box building where the Wabash Valley Tumbling Gymnastics operation is housed, park, enter and head up to the second floor. You walk right into the Evolution Fitness space. CONS: -It's small, it is not a gym, it provides really only classes. Personal training can be provided, but I do not know these details. -It is not a gym, but a fitness facility. As such, work out and go home. No shower, no deodorant/mouthwash/Avian mist/special touch of any kind to spruce up in bathroom after class, no towels. -Work out area for training is small, but doable. Only 12 spin bikes tucked in a corner. -No windows in space, so no access to any natural light. -Nothing warm and fuzzy or outside the box about this space or the facility. PROS: -It is only $5 a class! Let me repeat, $5 a class. So inexpensive and no fancy membership required. It is so simple for an out-of-towner like myself who drops into Terre Haute from time to time to keep physically active. -You can go to their website and sign up for a class in advance and pay by credit card. Easy, simple, gtd spot (and with a class with only 12 bikes, you want to make sure you have a spot). -I have only attended one spin class before dumping Evolution Fitness into Yelp and the instructor was Laura. Owner as well, she was really quite upbeat, on point with queing and walked the walk and talked the talk. I hate an instructor who is simply walking around kind of barking orders as a form of motivation. Laura did not ask anyone to work harder than she herself was working out and I liked that. So for Terre Haute, this spot is OK, but not necessarily outstanding out there in the world of boutique athletic options in which Evolution Fitness would be categorized. But visit their website, check out their classes and judge for yourself. The only thing it will cost you is $5 and an hour workout.
