There are also parking spots closer to the statue, not sure if it's free. You can also go to Seaport Village for lunch or dinner. This statue gets busy during the afternoon and evening. If you want nobody photo bombing your picture, aim for the early morning before 10 am or go late at night. This is open 24 hrs.

The architecture stands out, quietly waiting to be noticed and appreciated. The Stephens Terry house made my head turn as I was biking by, had to stop and take a look at this historical landmark that's up for sale. "The mansion, a three-story Coronado landmark at 711 A Ave., was designed by noted architects William Hebbard and Irving Gill in 1898 for A.P. Stephens. It was purchased in 1915 as a retirement home by Marshall O. Terry, former surgeon general of New York. Mr. Hansen bought the home at auction in 1950. He raised two families there - his four sons and two nephews and a niece, whom he took in after the death of their parents." Union Tribune Such a treat to find a 117 year old mansion style home! This is a historical bridge located in San Diego. This bridge is very high. It's built so high that…read morethe naval ships can pass under it. The notes on the bridge walls discouraging suicides were a little alarming, but of course necessary. I drove this bridge on my own, and I was a bit concerned when I first looked it up. Being the driver on the bridge is a bit different because you're focused on the road. The concrete walls that are on either side of you as you're driving are quite high so you feel secure as you're going across. There's a view , but don't think that your view will look like you are dangling off the edge or anything like that. I just wanted to put that out there for anyone else who might be concerned about having to take this bridge in order to get to what's on the other side.

Starting at the Bayfront Hilton and ending at Tidelands Park. It was a beautiful day and we felt great. At the end of the event you could pick up your tee and medal. Tee, check but the medals were missing. The event did not have enough medals. No reward for your hard work. The event made the situation right by ordering more. However, they did take eight weeks and you had to pick them up. If you complete the 2027 walk the medals interconnect with the 2026, making them unique. We will consider walking again. Cabrillo National Monument is awesome and needs to be top of the to-do list for a visit to San…read moreDiego. There is so much to see and do at the Park. The views of the bay, ocean, beaches and city are spectacular. The Visitors Center is packed with historical information about the landing of the first European, explorer Juan Cabrillo, at the bay. Naturalists offer special programs throughout the day about wildlife and other features of Point Loma. We saw a gopher snake during our visit. An overlook at the site offers explanation of ships and sea life that can be observed from the point. We found plenty of nearby parking at the Visitors Center. A short walk from the visitors center is a massive statue of Juan Cabrillo, the first European explorer to set foot on what is now San Diego Bay in 1592. The statue was created by sculpture Al Varo De Bree of Lisbon in 1939. We took photos by the statue. Old Point Loma Lighthouse is another prominent feature of the Monument. The lighthouse was one of the first lighthouses commissioned on the west coast of the U.S. During low tide, tide pools, on the north west side of the park, offer visitors a glimpse of ocean wonders. You can see sea-life up close. The tide was high during our visit, but I will return to check out the pools. Numerous trails lead up and down the point. The trails are somewhat steep, but offer spectacular views of the ocean and bay. Plan at least a four hour visit. Bring water and snack. Hiking stick is useful if you want to hike. Bathing gear is handy if you want to explore the tide pools. Go mid week to avoid the crowds. Wear hat and sunscreen. We found plenty of parking.

It was a bright, shiny day. We were surprised by how few people were there…read more It was going to be DOWN DAY, but my Partner suggested going to the CABRILLO National Monument. As for me, it was all a surprise. We had an amazing time at the Cabrillo National Monument, beginning at the lower level. We spent about 15 MINUTES there, on the nice bench!!! I would like to thank them for having a disabled parking spot amongst their parking spaces. We then drove up to the LIGHTHOUSE. I was dropped off, and Gonzalo parked down below. We saw something for the very first time, lots and lots Military Helicopters flying by from North Island. I then walked around the mini Museum and Lighthouse. It was then off to the Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo Statue. It was particularly windy up there, and we loved it. It had turned into a nice day, even though it was meant to be a DOWN DAY. We started at Starbucks, moved to CABRILLO NM, and ended up at Poma Delicatessen. We were surprised the most by how few people were there at the CNM. I was at the Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo Statue, and there were ZERO PEOPLE. Indeed, there were more military helicopters than people!!!

Which resulted in the playground being loaded with children and families having fun and relaxing in the cool breeze. There are ton of play activities for the kids: blue climbing mountain with slides, cool spaceship looking merry go rounds, swings, climbing, obstacle courses, etc. There are tons of tables, benches, and lots of shady areas for picnics or relaxing while the kids play. It was awesome to find this playground ride down the road from where we were staying. Too bad this is our last full day in San Diego.

This is a big park with a lot of grass area, a fountain, basketball and pickle ball courts, plus an…read moreoff leash dog park. What more can you ask for? What about great views of the harbor and city skyline on the other side? Yup it has that too. I come here many times with my dogs, as the dog park is a decent size for medium dogs to run around in. The dog area may not have grass, but it has dirt, and is usually kept clean. I actually prefer the dirt compared to artificial turf. Something to note is that there is only one park, so big dogs are combined with small ones. Theres a small obstacle course for dogs to jump and run through. And for the humans, there's also a few benches on the side to sit at.

My main goal was to explore the walkability, public transport options, and lodging choices. I would give Little Italy an A+ in all three categories! Throughout the district you'll find Italian restaurants at every corner, mini-marts, and boutique stores. If you'd like to vacation here, you can literally spend a couple of days in Little Italy and have everything you need in one spot. A trolley station is available near the center of the main hub and there's plenty of hotels! I wouldn't stay over the Summer as prices are exorbitantly high, I'd visit during the off season. July would be the worst month to stay in my opinion! Little Italy has a massive plaza with bistro-style tables and chairs open to the public. I couldn't help but notice the fact that I felt transported to Italy! Several restaurant owners had an Italian accent or spoke Italian. Additionally, the aroma of pizzerias and pubs were quite enticing. If you're into sports, there's several locations with screens for watching live events. My only issue with Little Italy is the lack of parking. Everywhere you go, street parking and paid parking is FULL. You'll be lucky to find a spot during the summer season. I found a spot after half an hour of circling the vicinity like a San Diego shark. The city needs to create more underground lots or more street parking.

Balboa Park is always such a great place to get away and enjoy a relaxing walk. There's just…read moresomething so calming about being here. The park is beautifully maintained, and everything feels clean and well cared for. The newly renovated botanical garden is especially peaceful and definitely worth visiting. It's also a great place to bring kids they'll love seeing the turtles, fish, and ducks around the park. There are plenty of vendor stands to check out as well, making it easy to spend a few hours exploring. Whether you're looking to unwind, enjoy nature, or spend quality time with family, Balboa Park is always a wonderful destination.

I noticed there wasn't any security around, and there was a lady without a top walking around near the bathrooms. The public bathroom was horrendous, but that is a given that it would be dirty. They didn't have soap. We went to the Japanese Friendship Garden for $16 and had an amazing time walking around. The parking was easy, and you can pay at the machine.

It's even more beautiful in Spring! I knew about SC when I was living abroad and immediately fell in love then told myself that is where I'm gonna get married! I DID!! I couldn't appreciate its 70 foot height but fortunately the natural area is respected, didn't see any garbage or human made etchings. Quince Street Bridge is a few blocks away, so might want to check that out too and do a hike underneath.
