That gave me a lot of respect for all of the labor that goes into harvesting and crushing grapes. The Grape Crusher pays homage to all those who labored to make Napa Valley what it is today. This monumental sculpture is visible from the highway, but you can exit to take a closer look. The vineyard worker wears a wide brimmed hat. He has both hands gripping the handle of the press and one foot braced against the basket. (We were also sweating, but that was because it reached 104 F on a very unseasonably hot day in October... so bonus...we had the park to ourselves.) Beautiful scenic views from the park. Free parking available with an easy inclined paved walkway to the statue. Worth a short stop for a quick photo op.

In this area some homes were built as early as the 1800's, but real growth occurred after the construction of the electric railway in 1904-1905, which allowed workers to travel from jobs in Vallejo and at the Mare Island shipyards to homes in Napa. The simple Queen Anne / Eastlake cottages reflect the lifestyles of the inhabitants, but there is much attention to detail along cornices, porch columns, and window treatments, even in the rental houses. Some cottages picked up Italianate details in decorative trim, and many have hipped roofs. I stayed here for over a week and walked the neighborhood a dozen times. The houses here are beautiful, classic and worth your time to admire when you come to Napa. Or you can perhaps book some time in one of the B&B's. From picking us up at the airport, to driving us all over the Silicon Valley and San Francisco, the service was amazing. Housley seemed to fit the bill--good reviews, dog-friendly (we had her dog with us), and what seemed to be a reasonable tasting price. We get there and we realize it's owned by Tamera Mowry (who is now Mowry-Housley!) There's a picture of her and her husband (a former baseball player) in the window. We're sort-of starstruck. Shortly after, her husband (and the winery's owner) Adam walks up with their daughter and asks us how we're doing. We continue to be starstruck. Service was wonderful. Seating was comfy. The views weren't the best (we were drinking on the sidewalk and there's a parklet too.) The 5 wines for $29 was not bad, but the size of the pours was lacking. The first pour was the smallest and then slowly they seemed to give us more (maybe they heard me!) Honestly, the pricier wines tasted better. I wish our wine tasting could've been free if we bought two bottles or something--I would've done that! Cute merch and store with goodies inside. Bathroom is clean. Would be back!
