We had just landed and were looking for a place to snag a quick bite before heading on to Banff. Viet lounge's options were delicious and the hostess was so knowledgable about gluten free options, making me feel very comfortable. Excellent service and great meal!

Had the curry and bowl of pho here and was not impressed at all. The curry was extremely salty and chicken thighs were dry. The bowl of pho was mediocre at best. The pho lacked flavor and there were no side of bean sprouts or leafy greens. Overall, there are much better places to have Vietnamese food in Calgary, this one is a pass for us.

The first location of a planned chain of modern vibin Vietnamese cuisine, these guys are positioned for success with a solid menu for food and drinks. Fun atmosphere with outdoor seating and an indoor bar lounge. Just got takeout today and the SE Asian chicken sauté noodle soup was excellent. Could've used 10% more vermicelli noods but I was full after finishing the whole bowl anyways. This will be a great go-to place for foodies and many other great finds are within walking distance. Free Deerfoot City parking. Bar Open til midnite, kitchen last call 11:30pm.

Kind, well-spoken, gentle, efficient, always a smile on her face and she went above and beyond. I had a 12:15 pm reservation. Unfortunately a group was taking much longer than expected. I waited over 30+ mins to be seated and so yes, I could've made a scene, but that wouldn't be me. Phoebe could've just let things be ... you know? Because "it is what it is". But she didn't. Once she seated me and my friend, she offered to take photos for me and of me. SO thoughtful! She also brought me a beautiful ice cream with a sparkling candle in it. SO sweet! She smiled at me every time she walked by almost as a way to make sure I was doing OK and feeling good. She was WAY more attentive than our female server who looked, sounded and acted like she couldn't leave work soon enough. Wasn't going to let her dampen my birthday though... Food tasted good. Presentation was beautiful. The male server who took over was SUPERB. Genuinely happy to "close out" our transaction with him. He was super attentive and willing to make everything go well. Thank you, Phoebe and male server for making my birthday memorable. XO

You only have about 5 or 6 spaces since it seems like the rest of the spaces have a "no parking" sign in front of each space... wtf... The place was nicely decorated and quaint. Loved the vibe. We walked in at 8am, opening time, and there were two parties sitting already. We got seated and looked at the menu. Our waitress was very friendly and mentioned that the Queens Breakfast, and the Montreal Smoked Brisket were the popular dishes. I decided on the Omelette Al Tartufo and my wife decided on the Montreal Smoked Brisket with Poached Egg. The Omelette Al Tartufo was good. Had a good earthy taste of the truffle. They had truffle paste so a hint of real truffle was there. There was a bit of melted cheese in there but there was a good balance. My wife had the Montreal Smoked meat with poached egg, which was also good. Pastrami-like protein with a poached egg, presented in a croissant. Very good, but very filling. Eat this, and you won't be having lunch! All in all, good food, and good service.

For food we ended up ordering and sharing the zucchini latkes, piri piri chicken, pork belly, mezze dip plate (we got the red pepper hummus, tomato feta & brown butter labneh), halloumi and the potato fingerlings. The bread for the dip plate was homemade, it was to die for! The dips to go with were amazing. Each of the tapas we had was perfectly balanced with spicy, fresh, sweet and savoury touches. The attention to detail in the food is very evident. Everything was delicious. We couldn't even choose a favourite dish because everything was THAT good!!!! It is not often you go out to eat and every single dish is a hit, but here everything truly was. the owner & chef, Kenny visited our table multiple times, chatted with us, checked in on our food & explained exactly what was in each dish. He was extremely personable and also made our experience tonight extremely special. at the end of our meal, we couldn't decide on which dessert to get, so we got the lemon ice cream dish and the chocolate hazelnut mousse. They were both absolutely delicious. the lemon ice cream was so refreshing and the chocolate hazelnut mouse was rich but not too sweet & the crumble on top was incredible. The staff even surprised us at the end of our meal with a little something to congratulate us on our run today. we have never seen a staff do anything like this before, it was the kindest surprise and we are so grateful. they made our night so special. honestly, none of us can remember the last time we had food and service as wonderful as we did tonight. Thank you Jessica and Kenny for making our evening so special! We can't wait to come back next time we are in town & HIGHLY recommend stopping here if you get the chance!

The concept is very similar to Chipotle Grill or Subway. You would order and they would make it in front of you putting in all the items that you want. The ingredients are fresh from the looks of it. But the taste was the issue. Sauces are limited and they use very standard sauces that you can get anywhere. Yes no fancy aioli mayo or black bean aioli sriracha and etc. In Vancouver, my favorite taco is Tacofino. Tacofino has a twist in their tacos and yes they make them upon order too like Chronic Taco. When I compared the two it is like Chronic Tacos is at the very bottom. Portion size at Chronic Taco is definitely bigger than Tacofino but it is not the size that matter. Taste and flavor is more important to me. The shell / Tortilla was heated warm but the ingredients were cold. Making the burrito warm or between warm and cold. It was somewhat lacking. There are not a lot of meat in the burrito either (mostly carbs). I got the chicken burrito with no beans and nothing spicy on it. Cold or luke warm burrito to me is the same equivalent of a sad sandwich. Chronic Taco is a fast food joint from Texas. It is popular in some places and not so much in others. I guess coming from Vancouver has put me in the picky spectrum. I don't think I will be back. Definitely good to try for me. Now I know how Chronic Taco tastes like.

Everything about this place is top notch: the food, the vibe, and the people. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about vegan food and made fantastic recommendations. The hot pot was hands down the best curry I've ever tasted. The sauce had this gorgeous brightness and depth that made every bite unforgettable. The yam fries with miso gravy were exceptional, and the peanut sauce with the tofu satay was absolute perfection. The dinner ambiance was lovely and cozy and you can tell the servers genuinely enjoy their jobs. That kind of positive energy makes the whole experience even better. My partner and I went for happy hour, and we were the only ones in the restaurant when we walked in just after 4pm. I really liked having a bit of a quieter atmosphere. Our server was quite personable and recommended a variety of dishes. We got the Brussels sprouts, satay broccoli, eggplant nigiri, and the soup of the day (Indian style tomato chickpea). The Brussels sprouts were punchy in flavor, and the broccoli was nicely fried with an earthy peanuty sauce. I would highly recommend both. I also got the Sunny cider, which wasn't too sweet. To finish off, we got the ube cake to go. Unfortunately it wasn't our favorite, and it was too small a portion to be priced at $12 in my opinion. With happy hour discounts, our bill came out to about $60 including tax and tip. Not cheap, but it works nicely for a little "treat yourself here and there" outing. Hoping to go back sometime in the new year!

This past Saturday night, a group of us visited Free House after a busy day with family, in-laws,…read moreand friends (none of us are fussy eaters and every one of us enjoys exploring new and unique restaurants). The experience was incredibly disappointing owing to a bewildering change in the menu. Gone from the menu are the delicious flatbreads, most sandwiches and other pub fare that they did so well. Also gone are the traditional side dishes that you would expect to find any pub restaurant. Quite disappointingly, we were shocked to find that a new "sharables" menu, which was disjointed, massively overpriced, and by some measure insulting (i.e. see the $11 dollar Pringles and onion dip appetizer, which is an unopened small can of pringles and a bowl of uninspiring dip that tastes about the same as the store bought plastic containers). The only recognizable menu items were the hamburger and a Ruben ($18 dollars each) that come with no sides or garnish and, as I've noted you can't even order fries or anything reasonable on the side. Literally a hamburger on a side plate. There are some more eclectic menu items that might be appropriate if you went to (and were in the mood for) a modern fusion tapas restaurant, but if you're in the mood for a relaxed pub atmosphere, most of these will miss the mark. The food itself is okay at best, but certainly not worth the exorbitant prices. It seems to me that management decided to go this sharables route to increase revenue (higher prices) and decrease costs (because there is fractionally less on your plate). The problem with this new income model is that I will never (ever) go to Free Houseagain with this clown-car of a menu, so any early increase in revenue will be short lived as I don't expect there would be many return customers. From what I can discern, management seems to be targeting $50 or $60 per customer for a meal and a drink, so expect to pay about that much or more if you are looking to walk away relatively satiated. We chose Free Housefor a relaxed dinner with family after an important and busy day. The menu is absurd and none of us plan on returning. Overall, I do not recommend Free Housewith the menu in its current state - it is RIDICULOUS. When I am in the mood for spending this kind of money on this kind of food I will go to a restaurant where they know how to do it and do it better. A can of pringles? Really? Talk about mailing it in.
