AC Hotel in Vicenza is a solid choice if you want your Bonvoy points. I was initially going to give…read more3 stars but figured I'd bump it up give the last few days. Check-in was effortless and the staff throughout were an absolute pleasure. The lobby is clean and has a nice sized lounge area. The room was nice but the bed had a lot to be desired. The pillows, too. King beds should have king pillows but stacking enough pillows up I made due. Also, as American living in Europe for just 7 months so far, I know that air conditioning is scarce in most places though I've found it available in hotels. Arriving right after Easter, the A/C in the rooms and the hotel wasn't turned on yet. I was provided a fan that seems like it's had better days. On my last 3 days, the A/C was switched on and sleeping was so much better! Breakfast was included but was nothing to celebrate. Fruits, cereals, yogurt, and sliced meats and cheeses. It's free so I'm grateful but you won't be satiated. Lastly, my trip was extended by a few days and I needed to do a bit of laundry. The hotel doesn't have laundry machines but do offer a service albeit expensive. Pros: excellent staff, free breakfast, nice room, good location Cons: A/C may or may not be on, paltry breakfast, no laundry on site. I'd totally stay again for points but if I wanted luxury I'd find somewhere else.

The hotel was modern, room comfortable and amenities great. Just remember, it meets European standards, not US so there is no alarm/clock, and European outlets (so you will need to have adapters). PRO: * Known Marriott quality, comfortable * Good breakfast available in the morning - typical European fare with cold cuts, cheese, bread, and several American style items (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages). Great Italian coffee. CON: * Gym is available, BUT it is open only from 0700-2300 (11:00pm); minimal equipment - will have to do push-ups, burpies, etc in your room * Typical European room in that there is no clock radio so ensure that you use your phone to wake up in time It is located in a semi-industrial area so it is quiet during the night. I was on the military posts during the day so do not know what is around the area. If visiting Vicenza, AC Marriott is a known quality property to stay with comfortable rooms and accommodations.

I'm a global business traveler and this was my worst hotel experience in five years. It started…read morewhen they couldn't find my reservation that I booked through AMEX Global Business Travel. I had the computer confirmation number and reservation in hand. They didn't believe me -- to them AMEX was a payment type not a travel site such as Expedia (their words) and argued with me debating the validity of the reservation. It was 8:30 at night, and I pleaded for her to honor the reservation. She agreed to find me a room but requested that I email her my confirmation documents immediately, which I did. I got a room, which she assured was "a favor" to me as I "didn't have a reservation". UGH! In hindsight I wish they hadn't given me a room. I'm not sure where the photos on the web site are from but they aren't representative of the room I was given. I had a tiny room with a single bed and a barely usable shower. It looked like it hadn't been updated since the 1950s. I found surprises like a piece of used dental floss hanging out of the trash container and shower door that would not close properly. When I departed the next morning I expressed my displeasure with the room and was told that "I was lucky" that I got one since I didn't have a reservation. Aagghh! Since they gave me a single room I asked that I only be charged the single room rate vice the double rate that I booked through American Express travel. The front desk person told me "no" and that they would only honor the rate on the confirmation that I showed her the previous night. So which is it -- is the reservation valid or not? With great Indignation she complained that I still had not emailed her the original reservation (which I did the previous night) to verify my claim. To stop the insanity I showed her the email in my sent box on my phone. After confirming that I did send the email to the correct hotel address she then checked her computer and still couldn't find it -- it's probably in the same place as my original reservation and confirmation. At this point I was exasperated and paid the double room rate and left.

Also a short walk to the train station and car rentals. Our room was very comfortable and clean, and the hotel staff, who spoke English, were very friendly and helpful. Margherita and Mossimo were particularly wonderful, as were the housekeepers, bellmen, and breakfast staff. The breakfast was very delicious and plentiful. I highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Vicenza!!

The hotel was a refreshing change after a couple stays in B&Bs, which while they were still nice, they don't have the same amenities that an actual hotel does. Our room was a good size, with plenty of room for a desk and chair, and the large bed. The bed itself was fairly comfy, especially by European hotel bed standards, and we slept fine in it. There was a fridge/mini bar in a cabinet in the desk as well. Those aren't complimentary snacks though, as the prices are on a sheet on the desk. The bathroom was big and clean, with plenty of counter space and good water pressure in the shower. The air conditioning was decent although it took a bit to get going and cool down our large, south facing room. The wifi was good as well. It was still pretty easy to get to the main downtown areas with all the Palladio buildings, as you just have to catch the #1 bus on the other side of the street. As usual, bus tickets are available at tobacco shops. I'm not sure how transit would function in Italy if people stopped smoking en masse! There isn't a lot nearby for food, mostly some pizza and falafel joints, although I highly suggest looking up Inter Nos, which is just a couple blocks away. The hotel has a breakfast area on the main floor that had a typical spread for an Italian breakfast - cornetti, fruit, yogurt, some cheeses and cured meats, and the other usual suspects. There's also lounge/bar area where you can get light meals during certain hours, and of course some drinks. Staff spoke English fairly well, and while they didn't have a business centre to print museum vouchers, since we only had to print a few pages they offered to let us use the computer at the main desk. We weren't able to get them printed due to some file format issues, but it was greatly appreciated. Prices were very reasonable, especially when compared to comparable places in Venice. If you're looking for a place to stay outside Venice or you're a big Palladio fan (as my wife is), give Vicenza and Hotel de la Ville a go! PS. A good two thirds of the city is closed on Mondays, including the big sights, so keep that in mind for your planning.

Front desk's response: "AC is not turned on until June." Power is turned off when the key card is not inserted in the room. Fine but the plugs turn off too. Can't charge anything if not in the room. Generally just a poorly run hotel.
