We found Jaime and Dennis through our wedding coordinator, who gave them a top rating, and we were not disappointed in the results! We interviewed a half dozen wedding photographers, and after a whirlwind experience I can confidently say that J & D are the most communicative and easy to work with. They have a can-do attitude and bring a low key sense of humor and enthusiasm to their projects. Everybody got along easily with them. Their equipment they use gave them a lot of options for getting great shots, they knew when to take advantage of good lighting, and they were SO kind about the few time they asked us to pose in the moment--a quick, "hey look over here!". Those quick and easy moments all paid off ... now that we have the shots we can see why they went for it. They included engagement photos in their package, and that shoot was a super fun adventure, everybody was in a good mood, so of course we got great photos that we'll have forever. I can't emphasize enough how many of the OTHER photographer candidates we interviewed came to their projects with an attitude like, 'this is how WE do things', or asking intrusive personal questions, or making us come down to their office for a sales pitch... Where to begin with praise for Jaime and Dennis? They photographed our wedding this past June in Big Sur and we could not have found photographers with more warmth, heart, patience, flexibility, and, above all things, the most beautiful results. Like many other reviewers, when looking for a photographer, we wanted an approach that was more journalistic, but still had an editorial bent. In other words, we didn't want a ton of posed photos, but instead wanted moments captured in a beautiful, subtle, and elegant way. I came across a photo that Jaime took of a row of grandparents laughing, and knew almost right then and there that I would want to work with them. I loved the process of talking and even negotiating with Jaime and Dennis. From the get go, they were interested in who we are, our lives, and what we wanted out of our photographs. I got the sense that they don't take cookie-cutter approaches to wedding photography, and love that philosophy. They both worked with us to come up with a package that fit our budget and made sense for everyone, always being extremely responsive and professional. On our wedding weekend, Dennis and Jaime were phenomenal. They blended in seamlessly with our guests and vendors, would get into any position for great photos (at some point I was scared Dennis was going to fall off a cliff), and cared enough in the flow of the day to not take us away from the party for too long, yet long enough so that we got beautiful shots. Beyond that, Jaime actually was extraordinary in helping with little things, like when the train of my dress got dirty from walking on the street - she had all sorts of ideas on how we could get the marks out, and went out of her way to do so. When we got the images a mere 2 weeks later (!!), I was blown away. The images were so special and captured spontaneous moments not just of us but also of our guests. As I look over the 2 sets of family pictures Jaime and Dennis took for our family over the years, I realized I never wrote a raving review for them. They are simply the best and if you like the style of the photographs you see on their website, you won't be disappointed as they are consistent. They are passionate about taking great pictures and capturing the personality of each member of the family and also the family as a group. These really do come out in their photos! We first began researching Viera by reading reviews and looking through their website (http://www.vieraphotographics.com). We were drawn to their style of capturing emotions and moments to tell a story. Correspondance - Anytime we had questions or concerns, we were able to get a reply within a days time. Because we had a destination wedding in Napa, this was very important to us because there was never a time we could sit down together to work out details. Do-diligence - Viera definitely did their homework to understand the locations and venues for our wedding. They did site visits and worked with the vendors to ensure a seamless process for our day-of. Wedding Day - Dennis and Chris were our photographers for the day. They promptly arrived at our rooms while we were getting ready and began shooting everything from accessories, flowers, and dresses/tuxedos, to moments with the girls/guys. During the ceremony, they captured all the great pictures and angles that you would normally see in a magazine wedding (ie: the aisle and arbor, the string trio, the kiss, the parents reactions, the moment of celebration after the ceremony). At the reception, they focused on capturing "real" moments we had with our guests. We have so many great candid pictures that highlight the light-hearted and happy energy of all of our guests. Groom's Gift Shoot - Based on all of the positive interactions through planning our wedding, I decided I wanted to hire Viera again for a post wedding shoot at Levi's Stadium as my groom's gift to my hubby. All we have to say is WOW! Jaime, Dennis and Mischa are so incredibly talented at capturing the most amazing photos from our wedding weekend! We chose Viera Photographics for our small, destination wedding ceremony in Big Sur after having an hour long-conversation with Dennis. We felt so comfortable talking to him. Immediately. I think we literally said, 'We don't know what questions we should be asking!', and then chatted with him about it for an hour. He and Jaime went completely above and beyond for us: 1. They helped us narrow down a site within Big Sur; 2. We decided to drastically change the time two days before the wedding, and they were completely flexible; 3. It was pouring down rain the day of our ceremony and they offered to be available the next day in case we could change it; 4. They came out in the pouring rain and took amazing photographs, Dennis even climbed into a rising creek to get the right angle with all his equipment plus an umbrella.. somehow. He also climbed down an embankment and hung from a tree by his elbow. He also let us use his boot to get over a puddle - we literally stepped on his foot to get where we were going. As our wedding day has come and gone and the magic dust has started to settle, we'll always cherish having Jaime and Dennis by our sides through it all. They're truly remarkable storytellers who earned our trust and confidence from the start. Never did we look back and see missed opportunities or wished we did things differently. Not many can say that, and for that, we're forever grateful. We first met Dennis and Jaime in January 2014 to discuss the possibility of them shooting our upcoming October 2014 wedding. At their suggestion, we met over beers at a pub up in Marin county (Nor Cal) and spent the better part of two hours sharing life stories and chatting about anything and everything. Honestly, we could have hung out all night. After leaving that initial meeting, we decided before we left that pub's parking lot that we'd do anything to have them shoot our big day. Stars aligned and we lucked into booking both Dennis AND Jaime together! They can often book out individually well in advance, so we were thrilled to have the dynamic duo intact for our wedding date. As the date approached, Dennis and Jaime were great about staying in touch to prompt us well in advance with all the upcoming to do's. About half way to the wedding date, we did a practice shoot with the them somewhere between Bodega and Tamales Bay. I can't give any more specifics. No for real...they led us from their farm to an amazing Lord of the Rings sort of location via small, winding country roads! No idea where we ended up. It was worth the effort because we got some amazing and unique shots that are standouts among the usual engagement photo variety. More importantly, the engagement session practice shoot was a direct extension of our experience during our first meeting at that pub months earlier. Casual, relaxed, fun, and genuine. Four adjectives that perfectly describe the husband and wife team. Fast forward to the big day. Dennis met the groom and groomsmen at the hotel and Jaime met up with the bride and bridesmaids at the bridal suite. Both were fantastic about being everywhere (getting random shots of the getting ready process) without ever getting in the way. They are like photo ninjas! Calm and professional demeanors were a great help to set the tone that day. Little reminders like "stop and take everything in" or "why don't you two go take a second by yourselves and relax" were great to keep us from getting swept up in the chaos. The photo ninja theme continued throughout the ceremony and reception. At the end of the evening, everyone was sad to see them leave. They had become a part of our family. Looking back on all of the photos that they took that day, it's EXTREMELY hard to choose which are our favorites. It's safer to say they are ALL our favorites. And that's no exaggeration. So, this review is a long time in the making but our delay reviewing Viera Photographics is in no way indicative of how we felt about our whole wedding photography experience. From beginning to end, it was great working with Jamie. When we finally got the email that our photos were ready we were really excited because we knew they were going to be fantastic and they STILL managed to exceed some VERY high expectations. Simply put, the Vieras are the right people to get the job done and then some. Seriously. They are true professionals who know what they are doing and are working both when you do and don't see them. We had them travel to our wedding (across the country!) and they spent countless hours at our 3 venues scoping out the scene to find out where they wanted to take pictures with us. How do I know this? Because we saw them at BOTH of our rehearsals on two separate days just looking for places to shoot for the main event! This is the ONLY part of the wedding planning that I took the lead on and we are beyond impressed and excited to have these memories for years.
