This is the best local "video" store I have ever had. Video Vision is situated on Carlisle Street…read morein St Kilda and has the best selection of DVD's possible. How I know this is because I have a test. I am a huge film lover and there was a film I watched when I was younger called "Don's Plum" and have never found a copy since due to the fact it had a very limited release as it was boycotted by actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire as the whole film is in black and white and is overexposed. I actually really liked it and no DVD store has ever had it, let alone heard of it. Until now. Not only did they have it in, the "film buff" behind the desk told me the history of the film and gave me recommendations on other films I probably hadn't seen. This is the nature of the store and is understandable due to the fact there are sections dedicated to "100 films you have to see before you die" (made by the staff) and "Highly recommended" (again by the staff) but due to their undoubtedly good knowledge it makes selecting films easy. If that's not your thing there are also sections categorized by Director's name, Academy Award winners, Stoner flicks, Chick flicks, Arthouse, Foreign, Nostalgic, Cult and more! It's a film lover's paradise. It's almost too good at times as they have films that aren't registered to Australia's region and will only work on some DVD players. Again, this just shows they are committed and the one time they didn't have a film I wanted, they were happy to order it in and probably took it quite personal.

And I'll admit it, I even love the smell of them. Especially old ones with a bit of history. Enter Readings. It's like, my book heaven. It reminds me of the movie, "You've Got Mail", where Meg Ryan's character owns a small book store. She sells all the classics, and she can tell you anything you need to know about any book of any genre. Then she's forced to close by a big chain. Readings is like that little, personalised book store. (I just hope and prey they never close down!!) The staff here actually know about, and care about, books. They're geeks for books, just as I am!! And it's GREAT. It's so nice to be able to walk into a book store and be able to ask questions about what's new, what's good and what do I just need to read. My fave aspect is the wall of staff picks; under pics of staff are listed the best books they've read. It makes it so easy if you're undecided on what to get. Trust me, you'll tell Readings are the real deal as soon as you walk in and catch scent of that all too familiar, and comforting smell.

Readings is a store for book lovers. You can always tell, by the floor to ceilng style book…read moreshelves, and the upper level books that look like they need a ladder to be retrieved. Every book lover would love to have a library in their home, and this is the next best thing. The store often holds events, such as Author signings, book clubs, and group readings, much to my delight. And there is even a significant section of the wall dedicated to recommende books by the stores own staff, with little reviews available for your perusal. Readings is also great at ordering in anything they dont have in stock, so it really is the perfect place to meet all your bookworm needs.

After I've convinced myself that self-medication is not working, I resign to my fate and make an appointment to see one of the doctors at this busy little clinic, just off Toorak Road. You normally do not have to wait long when you have an appointment and the doctors are friendly, offer great advice and are generally concerned about your health (as opposed to some who really can't be bothered). Believe me, I've been to some doctors where I felt like I was talking to myself or had some form of leprosy since the doctor wouldn't even come close to me or look me in the eye. I once went to South Yarra Medical with what I thought was a bad cold and the doctor told me to stay home for 4 days. I was at first shocked by the length of time but soon realised that she has been spot on with her diagnosis. I was knocked out for 4 days and was glad to be covered (from work) so I could just rest and get the infection out of my system.

I've seen three different doctors at South Yarra Medical - Tania Nishimura, Melisa Hudson, Elaine Sung - all of whom were thorough (even in the 15-minute appointment frame), compassionate and, dare I say it, actually listened to my concerns. They were also personal and conversational, which always makes a trip to the doc a bit less painful. Even when they had to refer me to a specialist (orthopedics/MRI), they sent me to equally fantastic doctors, and I never felt like I was being handed off and shoved out the door. If you have a more in-depth concern that you want to talk about, request at double (30-minute) appointment over the phone.
