EXPIRED DRINKS HERE, BEWARE! My family and I bought some drinks here on the way from Nevada and I was met with a horrible surprise. My can of Liquid Death was several months expired! I hate when mini-mart owners make these unhealthy decisions to keep expired food and drinks on the shelves in order to meet a business quota! It's unsafe and a disservice to weary travelers. The store was clean and the clerks/owners seemed personable, however, this was not acceptable. I will most likely not purchase any food or drinks from this mini-mart again. Location: Can't miss it as it's the only gas station in miles Ambiance: Front, inside and bathrooms are well kept but the back looked like homeless crack house motel. Service: Folks were polite and helpful. The wait for fueling up can be dependent on the number of truckers needing petrol. Quality: Good but PRICES ARE HIGH. No doubt they know they're the only place for miles around, and you're going to pay for it. Cleanliness: Pumps, inside shopping, coffee, etc., and the bathrooms were all clean. We broke down at this gas station today while it was 112 degrees outside. The staff was amazing. As we waited for roadside assistance we noticed the pride the employees took in their jobs. They were constantly restocking the shelves, sweeping the parking lot, cleaning the restrooms, and cleaning the glass on the doors. If we weren't in panic mode, we would've complimented them in person. This was the next best thing we could think of. read more

I've gone back and forth thinking about this place, driving across the desert, and I have finally come to this simple conclusion: chances are, you're never going to see this place in your lifetime. This essential fact sort of begs the question, "so why are you writing a review about this place?" Maybe it's catharsis, maybe it's a minor case of narcissism... Or maybe it's just that if you've been holding your bladder driving across the desert for the better part of an hour, and you finally see the lights of the small gas station/minimart on the horizon... Well, you should probably know that you're not welcome to use the restroom here without a purchase. There is a very poorly kept bank of Porta potties outside, cooking in the sun. But be prepared to drop a buck or two here to, as various signage throughout the establishment suggests, help this business defray the cost of restroom materials. The irony, of course, is that after a long drive through the back roads of the Mohave, I was hankering for a snack and something to drink. With four kids in the car, I would've ended up dropping 20 or 30 bucks here by the time I was done. Instead, I felt spiteful and decided to take my money all the way to Needles. Go home Vidal gas station business model, you're drunk! Literally, there are no fewer than four signs on the front door, inside the store, and inside the restroom whining and complaining about how much it cost to buy paper towels and toilet paper. I felt like asking the proprietor what bankruptcy costs, but instead I just smiled, did a 180, and put this place in the rearview mirror. From the looks of things inside, they have the usual fare of candy bars, gum, chips, and drinks. I can only guess that backroads travelers have probably taken full advantage of this place; maybe the speed boat towing river people that blow through here with giant Monster decals on the back windows of their trucks have missed treated with this place. But attention rural retail marketing experts: if you use least common denominator logic to decide how to treat all your customers, you're going to lose sales. Maybe I'm just a jerk, I don't know. Haven't had to stop here in years. Although we pass by it often. Tim couldn't hold "IT" any longer and we had to make a stop here recently. I was actually kinda surprised how clean, organized and well stocked it was. No fresh-made anything and no fountain drinks......strictly packaged goods here. They definitely keep the restrooms under lock & key. Probably explains why they were fairly clean. I also noticed an area with 2 portable toilets outside if your in a real hurry and don't wanna deal with getting the key. They updated the fuel pumps pretty recently and they are open 24 Hours for ATM & Credit at the pump. The cafe (with a large cock on the roof) around the side has been closed for at least 2 years now. I really liked the lady working. She was so sweet. But gas is crazy. Min $4.80 gallon and the store doesn't post prices. We paid $3.99 + tax which is crazy high but I needed my Pringle's fix. This place is in the middle of nowhere so I guess they stick it whoever will take it. Problem is the entire tube was crushed to bits. I didn't want to drop a palm full of crumbs. Shame on me for not taking them back to these highway robbers but we were too far down the road. read more

Heading to Vegas early October on my Dyna motorcycle, I decided to take back roads. Starting from San Diego I rode through Anza Borrego, around the Salton Sea and through the Box Canyon heading to Desert Center where I begun riding up the CA177 merging into the notorious but beautiful CA62. Riding a motorcycle on these long roads calls for good fuel planning and while planning my ride I found the filling station at Vidal junction which was perfect as it would provide me fuel just when I need it before heading on to Needles. Only one problem here for motorcycles, only diesel and 87 grade available here. I filled up 87 and rode at low rpm to Needles. Didn't experience and pinging but it's worth to know you can't find high octane grade here. The place is really surprising and people really friendly. The shop is nice and clean and if nature calls....the restrooms are really nice and clean! Good cellular reception as well. Worth a stop and looks like they are doing some maintenance work there. read more
