I am there practically every day as they have declined quite a bit. My dad is 88 and my mom 84 both with health issues. My dad had a recent hospital stay and when he came back home the nurse came by every day to visit him. They are in independent living and they absolutely love it. My mother in law lived here my aunts and uncles lived her and my dads sister lives here now. It's a wonderful place to put your family. The care has been wonderful.

Four days after my dad passed away in 2023, they helped my mom be completely moved back to an independent living apartment. MY PARENTS WERE MARRIED 70 YEARS AND NEVER HAD TO SPEND ONE DAY APART AT WINDSOR PARK. When my dad transferred to Johnson Center skilled nursing after a hospitalization, my mom could walk there from their apartment, under the same roof. Since my dad has been gone, my mom is still participating in activities with friends she has had since 2018. Socialization and continuity have been key for her well-being. She is moving through the grieving process and building a new way of life as a widow amongst her peers, many of whom have had similar life experiences. This beautiful place has been a blessing to our family.

The memory care unit is self-contained, consisting of a living room atmosphere surrounded by private bed/bath rooms. The resident does not need to navigate hallways or elevators. Everyday they have activities to exercise the mind and/or body. The staff turnover is low which is a plus. The nursing staff is one of the best, not just for the resident, but also for helping us manage expectations. We went from a one-star arrangement to ta 5-star arrangement at a lower cost and highly recommend River Glen.

I felt at home within the first week of our move. My husband took a little longer, but has made the adjustment. Everyone, staff and neighbors, have been very friendly and have made this transition a good one. There are plenty of activities available and our own ideas for activities are readily accepted. There is a lovely walking path within the courtyard of the townhomes and a lot of green space. Best of all, we were able to bring our dog, and she loves it here. There is frequently someone out sitting in the shade on a bench to give her attention. It is wonderful not to have to worry about outside. Maintenance responds in timely manner to issues arising in our home.

I spent many hours keeping Mom company in her room, and every single interaction I overheard between staff and residents was kind, gentle and respectful. Every staff member is helpful, regardless of whether the current need is in their job description. All laundry is done daily, and the facility is always sparkly clean. The compassion we experienced was infinitely superior to nearly every setting we've encountered in life; I felt so cared for even in our initial admission meeting. So very thankful God brought my mom to Highland Oaks.

We had taken him to a couple of other nursing homes and the atmosphere/care given to him just weren't cutting it. My father passed away last week and up until the very end they made sure everything was as it should be for him as well as those of us visiting. Positives: The facility is nice and peaceful, depending on what other families are there…read more Nursing/PCN staff was mostly compassionate and kind. My mother-in-law was brought in on Mother's Day. We were originally told she was only approved for 14 days of hospice, no mention on what would happen if it took longer than 14 days. It took a week to hear from social worker regarding her situation because social worker was out of town. no on-site chaplain, but one was available upon request. Social worker promised support with FMLA and a note for work, never received either. My husband was promised bereavement/mental health support, but only after she passed. it's been over a week and nothing. We have to track down the social worker to do her job. The last week of her stay, several loud families were visiting patients in the hospice house, with no enforcement of rules, rowdy guests, or inappropriate behaviors after we were told the teenagers in our party need to be on good behavior. The last few days of her stay, visitors, nurses and staff were talking loudly outside of her room about their personal lives. Completely inappropriate. Have had to ask staff several times for pain meds for MIL, she would be moaning and saying "ow" - nobody would check on her. Would tell staff at desk to get her more meds, they said I had to tell the nurse in a closed-door office. Why is it so hard to identify who is actually providing care? We were told by staff to plan funeral arrangements and they would contact our provider. After she passed, we were told she was a coroner's case and had to go to the Cook County Medical Examiner. We were NOT told this and have no record of this conversation or procedures (but a handout with funeral homes/crematoriums). Staff insisted they told us she was a coroner's case. We have no record. She passed on Memorial Day, the nurse on-site was unprepared for this and kept us at the hospice after she passed to talk to coroner. Did not release us, PCN staff told me it was okay to clean out her fridge and go home. We did not know we would have to talk to the cops, nobody told us that anyone who is seen for a fall and passes within 1 year has to go to the ME. No clue what to expect. More trauma after a traumatic day. We have now had to contact the funeral home on our own and hope they transport my MIL from Cook County to their facility without incident. This has been botched from the get-go. No continuity in training, communication, or actual support for families. The social worker here does not care about the families at all.

The facility is bright and clean, the meals pretty tasty and I can't say enough good things about…read morethe staff at this facility. My 92-year old mother moved into one of their assisted living studios in the fall of 2014. Up until that point, she had lived on her own, so clearly, she wasn't very enthusiastic about the move. She wasn't as engaged in some of the activities as we might have liked, but it wasn't for lack of the staff's teasing encouragement (which she enjoyed). When her health deteriorated a year or so later, she moved into the more intimate memory care wing in a studio almost identical to the one she'd had, where the staff could keep her under watchful eyes. Before long, a hospice crew became part of her care team. As prickly as my mother could be, she was loved by members of the staff. Several of her caregivers wept the day she died and for me, that said it all. Difficult as it was, we had made the right decision. One other thing worth mentioning: it's not a huge community, so if it's important for your loved one to be in a place where everyone knows everyone else, this is a good choice.

It's reassuring to know that my mother is actively engaged. The meals are well-prepared and diverse. It feels much more like a restaurant experience than a cafeteria. We've seen an improvement in my mother's overall well-being since she moved in. She's more active, and social. They told us he would have a geriatric psychiatrist visit for proper dementia meds and a room in memory care. After 8 weeks, no meds, no bed on the memory care floor and now we have to admit my Dad into a hospital to get the proper dementia meds. Unfortunately, we still have to pay them. If your loved one has dementia please consider somewhere else that specializes in memory care.

They enjoyed their patients and responded nicely to them. Family were able to ask questions and got responses. This is NOT JUST ONE family with the following. You talk with others while there: The "Social Worker " is not certified from what I was told. Rolando, is USELESS. He says he will help find a place once the patient is leaving. He DID NOT. We had to push, ask questions, meet, etc. NOTHING was really offered. He finally said he had phone numbers to give us. That piece of paper with 10 facilities on it, was USELESS. I found 2 to be possibilities but those didn't pan out. On most, there is no distinction which are rehab, asst living, nursing. WHY THEY HIRE SOMEONE in this position, I do NOT understand. Anyone can hand out a paper or cards and leave if up to the family. He DID NOT make call/connections for us. He did tell us that they have info for those WHO CAN PAY which I figure is probably their 1st or 2nd floor residents. BE CAREFUL as Rolando will have an exit date. IF it is NOT reasonable, speak up. He was going to send MOM home by AMBULANCE as she was not mobile. I asked what we do once she arrives. He then changed the date. She was able to walk with assistance when she left on a later date. So, the patient is treated well, and rehab is good. IF you have lots of money to cover for residence afterwards, it's probably OK. However, there are even NICER places if you search ALDEN, Arbor Terrace in Naperville, Sunrise, some of the Heritage Woods, Asbury Gardens, Victory Center of Bartlett. Research and find one.
