Well this my filthy minded reader this is the place for all your hardware needs. Nestled on Great Western Road this wee shop is a fantastic emporium of all things handy. Filled to the very brim with all that you would imagine of a place like this and more, i really cant be any more enthusiastic about this place. Having lived in this general area for the last 5 -6 years, this has always been my first stop when i have the "eh....is that broken?" moment. With a remedy for my home ailment usually in stock and a helpfull handy owner always willing to offer help and assistance a the drop of a hardhat (boom, boom!!), the West End Hardware is the finest of place to be....... Carpet Right sells....drum roll - carpets (amongst other flooring types) and Harry Corry...slightly more - or less - imaginatively named (?) sells curtains. Well, not just curtains - it's kind of a limited home interior shop that focuses on fabrics and accessories. For instance curtains, bed spreads, lighting and cushions. So, it's nice and does it's deed. The range of products and stock is mesmerising - all sorts of colours and patterns can be found here; some are even pretty nice. The prices are extremely reasonable. The staff are easily to locate, pleasant, helpful and know their stock extremely well. So it's always a pleasure and never stressful. However, I'm not a fan of curtains (it's the age of the blinds after all) or cushions (don't even get me started - all they do is take up space and get in the way). Bedding and lighting I can appreciate but once you've got a few decent sets/items of these you don't really need more - do you? Thus, I'm not entirely sure if this place's purpose is entirely required. Yet, it's a great shop for what it is and obviously from time to time these items are needed. In these instances, I'd rather buy them from here than face Homebase or Asda that that shoddier 'shoved on' departments of these items. Therefore, well worth a visit if you're in need of a cushion (see it just don't sound right?) or other home int

They have an extensive range in stock and the way it works is that they have the rolls of carpet on display - their showroom is in actual fact a very large warehouse. The carpets have the measurements displayed on front of them along with the make, colour, quality and price. Just make sure you bring the measurements of your room along with you at the time. They also sell rugs, laminate, underlay and any sundries you would require for your carpets eg, gripper and door bars. They always have plenty of staff on hand to help with any queries. You can take the carpet away with yo on the spot or it can be delivered if it is too big for your car/van. They take a small additional charge for this service. They have business cards for carpet fitters on the premises and you arrange for them to come along yourself.

Whether it's to pick up a new plant or just some Baby-Bio this place rocks! In addition to plants they also have paint, wallpaper and a lighting department. My Mums favourite section is the "Bargain Section" and we once found a lovely picture which had no price on it. When we asked the guy at the desk he said if we made a donation in one of their charity boxes then we could have it, donating to a good cause and getting a lovely picture, fantastic! The staff here are really helpful and will even assist you to your car if you get a bit carried away buying too many wares.

There is always the taxi option, but it's not one I'm fond of. As for the taxi of dad...well, this is a grumpy option reserved only for desperate occasions when I really require something. So far, these occasions have been various tins of emulsion when I first moved into my current flat a few years ago and - eh - to get a tiny, but thick and bushy Christmas tree. Anyway, on both of these occasions I've been extremely impressed by this Homebase. DIY and gardening aren't really my things but just a few steps in here and I'm genuinely excited! It's a massive store that is well lit, organised, laid out and everything is clearly sign posted. This means even someone as clueless as me can locate wide general sections without any trouble. If you get to one of these sections are a little overwhelmed by your vast choice, it's really easy to catch a member of passing staff who will be able to point you in the direction of certain products, or a line of products, that best suit your purposes. As Eleanor mentioned, should you go slightly shopping mad 0 and it's easy let me tell you - the staff are super helpful at the checkout and will happily help you out to the car with your load. Favourite sections of this store have got to include the gardening section outside; the lighting section and, of course, the bargain section. This last one is extremely random and most of the time you won't find anything you NEED there but it's worth glancing over on the way to the checkouts.

Staff were knowledgeable and helpful giving us plenty of time to test out suites. Downstairs is the leather section where various leather suites of varying styles and leathers were on show. Prices were average for the type of suites we were looking at, and there were options of deals available. But I thought that they were selling a pile of absolute rubbish. The suites were really poor quality and all the styles were rather similar. The prices were fairly cheap but not cheap enough that I'd accept the quality that was on offer.

It's a homewares/hosey kind of shop which is very Scottish in all it's tartan glory but in a classy, chic way. I popped in and the two lovely shop assistants were super helpful. I was hoping they had picture frames but sadly they didn't, so I just had a browse instead. This is the kind of shop I'd happily curl up in under a blanket and have a nap in - it feels super homely and cosy. As I said, there's lots of tartan but it's very stylish and good quality stuff. From lovely mugs and plates to cushions, rugs, tables and lamps, you could pretty much deck out your whole home here. Want to go that bit further? Step through to the back room where there's clothes, accessories, scarves and bags. Prices aren't cheap - a large overnight bag is over £300 and cushions are over £50. Sure, you might be able to find stuff cheaper elsewhere but they are passionately Scottish and everything is made here in the Western Isles, Borders and Highlands. So you're getting proper quality stuff which is locally made, which is surely worth those extra pennies when you're furnishing your place. The staff are super helpful and offered alternative housewarming gift suggestions, like their current deal of oven mitts and a cookbook for £28. Not quite what I wanted so I didn't buy anything at this visit, but I'll definitely be back for another wee nosey soon.

The staff were very knowledgeable and very friendly without being at all pushy. I've parked outside the store so many times without venturing inside but so glad that changed! Going to look into visiting the manufacturing part as I spend a lot of time in the borders and have a very artsy mother. The Yelp event was wonderful!
