Having said that, being in the tidal bore is a contact sport. It's possible to fall out of the boat. And on our trip, my 14-year-old daughter fell out on the largest wave of the day along with two others on that side of the raft. When that happens, like in white water rafting, everyone on the boat participates in the rescue. Luckily my daughter is a good swimmer... we were actually more concerned about the two other ladies as our guide JD maneuvered the boat so we could full everyone back in, When my daughter got back in she had cut up both her legs and one of the wounds was bleeding pretty well. Almost immediately the lookout boat came and gave my daughter first aid for her cuts right there. Then when we got back to shore (this all happened right near the end of the ride) one of their staffers who was also a paramedic treated her cuts, which thankfully were superficial but bled well because they were on her calves. I mention all of this because this is an activity that while fun, can be dangerous. And it was so impressive that when something happened Tidal Bore had staff on hand both in the water and on shore to handle it. They could not have been more professional. There were other companies out on the water but I did not see any other first aid boats (I'm not saying they didn't exist but every other boat I saw out there was rafting, not watching). This is the company you want to do this activity with. They gave us a great time, and took care of our daughter when the going got a little tough. I would give them ten stars if I could. JD was a pro's pro, and both the first aid rafter and the paramedic guide were the best (I wish I could remember their names). I don't know if when we will be back to Nova Scotia, but when we are we will raft the tidal bore again, and it will be with the best prepared, most professional company there is, Fundy Tidal Bore Adventures.

You then make a short walk down to the receded bay to start the adventure. We were so lucky to have Tessa as our guide! She is a geologist and taught us so much about the rocks/formations we passed and made sure we had such a great time! When we hit those waves our raft was more like a tub it was so filled with water, but it was hilarious. After you get back the team is ready with hot showers, snacks and hot chocolate. As a side note - if you didn't want to wear your own shoes during the trip, they have heaps from those people left behind. It makes for a nice pitstop if you are driving to/from New Brunswick. They make their own maple syrup and specialize in all things maple. If you don't like pancakes, this probably isn't the place for you. Everything on the menu is made with maple. If you have the time, there is a nice mountain trail just out the front door that apparently a lot of folks hike before eating. We couldn't fit it in but I bet it would have made the experience even better. My pancakes with maple roasted pecans were good, not mind blowing, but good. My coffee with maple whipped cream was good but I typically take it black and wasn't a fan of all the sweetness. They do feature some non-pancake items like maple baked Mac n' cheese that was apparently recently on the Food Network. Also, some kind of French toast. But we all went for the pancakes. Service on our visit was not super fast but everyone was very nice and the place was very busy. They have a store with syrup, their own maple porter, and other wares. Overall we enjoyed our visit to this picturesque spot.

Wentworth Provincial Park was my first stop inside Nova Scotia, and a true oasis for me after…read morerunning the gauntlet at the NB/NS border where they were screening for covid and demanded a vax certification before proceeding. Looking more like a highway rest stop, a la QC-style where you can see the activity from the highway as it sprawls along a mostly open space not far from traffic, Wentworth is considered a provincial park here in NS. I stopped and got out and went for a stroll as soon as I pulled in. There's a long dirt road that runs parallel to the highway to walk which ends at a creek entrance with a bridge to cross by foot. To clarify the intended use, here's a quote from their site: "Wentworth Provincial Park is a very popular day use picnic park with scenic views situated in Wentworth (Highway 4) in the Northumberland Shore region. The park is a popular area for bird watchers and offers wooded and open areas with a small meandering river and trails connecting to the Cobequid Mountain trails. Group use is available. Flush toilets." For me it was a nice rest stop and beer break before hitting the road on the way to Hantsport, Nova Scotia. Couldn't ask for a better and more restful stop!

I was lucky to get paired with a couple (only 3 guests on the boat) that were up for as wild a ride as mother nature & Jason were willing to provide. It was a brisk June morning, and the water was chilly (especially when it splashes down your back), but the survival suits made a huge difference for post dousing warm-up. We saw well over a dozen eagles, amongst other feathered friends. All the tidal bore companies are off the beaten path a bit, so opt for the slightly longer trip at only an extra $20/pp (it's worth it). The hot chocolate / coffee / cookies after the trip were a welcome treat. They have towels if you need'm for post-trip showers. Jason said the waves were the highest he'd seen thus far this year, which was great. The boat trip wasn't quite as wild as I was expecting (compared to the intensity of some white-water rafting), but a very good time. They have the estimated wave intensity schedule posted on their website, pay close attention to that when planning your trip (should you want more or less chaos). If you have a wet suit (or water shoes), you may want to bring with you, as the water can be cold (my feet were very chilly). If you're susceptible to cold, this may not be the trip for you (but ambient & water temperatures vary). If I were to make suggestions to the owner, I'd propose bringing a canister of hot chocolate and of coffee to hand out to guests during a lull (maybe by the bridge), to help warm people up on the cooler days; and maybe gloves with rubber grips, as holding onto the ropes for a long time in cold water can chaff waterlogged hands/fingers.

Don't worry about trying to wear water-wear or protective gear because Adventure Tours will provide you with full rain-gear, rubber boots, life-jacket and a helmet upon your arrival. All you need to worry about is holding and trying not to swallow too much water :) You'll want to call in advance to find out when is a good time to go. Apparently they can determine the size of the waves based on the fullness of the moon - the fuller the moon, the crazier the rafting experience. Chances are that your boat will not flip over, however, there's a fair chance that somebody may fall out, this happens frequently and is not a big deal. In addition to the rafting you'll also have a chance to go mud-sliding, where you'll get ridiculously dirty and have a great time. After the rafting and mudslinging is over and you've worked up an appetite, Adventure Tours provides you with a BBQ and beverages, and you have a chance to sit down, relax and dry, or if you prefer, go for a dip in their swimming pool. We flew into Halifax and hopped into our rental car and rushed to the Tidal Bore to see high tide…read more For those of you who missed this important fact, the Bay of Fundy had the highest tides in the world: 40+ feet (12+ m) between high and low tide. It is pretty darn impressive. After we had our fill of watching water reach the peak and then reverse course, we went into the Discovery Center, where a lovely woman -- wish I could remember her name -- explained what we had seen, patiently and repeatedly explained to a tourist that 12 meters of water doesn't arrive in a huge tidal wave, and answered various questions. After everyone else left, we asked her more questions about NS She was great: recommendations for restaurants, which back roads to take, and more. Hats off to this super friendly and helpful Bluenoser. She did everything but invite us over for dinner.
