This is an amazing park on the Bay of Fundy, which records the highest tides in the world. At low…read moretide you can walk out in the bay floor (watch out for algae and slippery mud - it can be *very* slick! Sturdy shoes and a bit of agility are a must even getting down the short staircase cut into stone at the primary entrance to get to the newly exposed bay floor. The rock formations are incredibly striking, and the tide levels shift so quickly even at this more expansive area of the bay, you need only wait for about 10 minutes to see the level change. (For a more dramatic change or to see the tidal bore, you need to go to South Maitland or Truro). The park is quite isolated and at least 20 mins off the more major roads, so you have to be committed to a visit. But it's an amazing place that has to be seen in person to really appreciate.

Dollar Lake is a great spot to head for one of those planned and packed sort of camp trips. A fair…read moredistance out of the city, its a pretty, clean spot to get out of the city and have a little adventure without traveling too far. Its geared towards families and friendly folks who are looking to embrace the wilderness and have a good time. Because its a provincial park, there is a low tolerance for shananigans, so night hawks on the booze train may want to pitch tents elsewhere. Located right on the lake, its the full experience, and there is a nice flow to the campground's layout. Washrooms and showers seem decent, and it seems like the rest is up to you to bring. Its a safe bet for families and chill folk wanting some time in the woods.

We have gone here a few times through the summer, it is close and you can camp here as it is one of the Provincial Parks. I like that because they have lifeguards and sections for families. There accommodations are nice and the lake is beautiful. You can grab a campground site and make it a fun weekend. They have showers and washrooms. Because this is a Provincial Park, there is no alcohol allowed, so it would not be for the spirited individuals. All Provincial campgrounds are Alcohol Free. If you are looking for that you need to go to a private campground. We always have fun here!

You can easily walk its perimeter in 30 minutes if you're just powering through. That said, you wouldn't want to. Lots of nature to see! The creators have also made some wonderful trails - crisscrossing, doubling back, and alternate routes. You will definitely hear lots of birds (and possibly other woodland creatures!). The lake is also fantastic - if you can schedule your walk to match the sunset, you'll be a happy camper. Oh! And you can go swimming. There are two swimming spots - one is an actual beach and the other is off some rocks at the tip of a trail. Tip: wear bug spray. No, really.

The only complaint is the people who feel free to let their dogs run loose even though it's quite clearly marked as an on-leash only park. I would like to see a few garbage cans too, for those inconsiderate people who pick up after their dog but then leave it in bags at the start of the trail.... seriously disrespectful to the others with small children, etc. I will continue to frequent the park with my little dog (always on leash) and for all those visiting, remember tick meds for your dogs and bug spray for yourself !!! Laurie Park is a popular swimming hole and campground located a 30 minute drive from Halifax. It is…read moreknown for being the best place in the surrounding area for rock jumping, a past time that is popular among people of all ages during the summer. The jumping rocks at Laurie park can be accessed by a trail leading from the parking lot through the woods. A fence protects the people who are wary of taking the big leap from getting too close to the edge, and I've used it as a clothes line so that my towels and clothing don't get wet while I'm in the water. The rocks themselves are about as tall as a two story house at the tallest section but there is also a section of smaller rocks that are better for younger kids to swim off of. There isn't a lifeguard on duty at the rocky section of Laurie Park so it's not the best place for children who are really young or are just learning to swim to play. The rocks while fun to jump off of don't provide much entertainment to anyone looking to play it safe. This isn't your typical beachy swimming hole but Laurie park always provides the means for hours of summer fun.

Five Islands Provincial Park has a lot of offer - camping, hiking, ocean and cliffs…read more With over 90 campsites, campers will love the wide selection of sites here. Most places are wooded, but one section of the campground is right along the top of the cliff offering fantastic views of the ocean. Heading to the water and muddy beach, you'll enjoy the 300 foot cliffs from below. Being on the Bay of Fundy, you'll have to consider the tides to make sure you don't get caught during the rising tide. There is a great rock formation at the end of the beach that makes for the perfect walking end point, and a great spot to take pictures. Back on top of the cliff, you can find three hiking trails. They can be completed separately, or combined to make a 7.2 km loop. We decided to do this. It took 2-3 hours to finish the loop. The hikes starts out steep, but is mostly flat elsewhere. Looking more like a highway rest stop, a la QC-style where you can see the activity from the highway as it sprawls along a mostly open space not far from traffic, Wentworth is considered a provincial park here in NS. I stopped and got out and went for a stroll as soon as I pulled in. There's a long dirt road that runs parallel to the highway to walk which ends at a creek entrance with a bridge to cross by foot. To clarify the intended use, here's a quote from their site: "Wentworth Provincial Park is a very popular day use picnic park with scenic views situated in Wentworth (Highway 4) in the Northumberland Shore region. The park is a popular area for bird watchers and offers wooded and open areas with a small meandering river and trails connecting to the Cobequid Mountain trails. Group use is available. Flush toilets." For me it was a nice rest stop and beer break before hitting the road on the way to Hantsport, Nova Scotia. Couldn't ask for a better and more restful stop!

No owner in sight. More than once I had to run, for what I imagined was my life, as a big, vicious looking dog ran straight to me full speed. I read two 13 year old girls, living off of the park, and the dad were viciously mauled and disfigured, by a dog. Look it up in the old Point Pleasant chat logs and in I Think The Guardian. Remember when you were little and you used to go to the playground and you fell on the cement well not any more. This ground surrounding one of the larges jungle gyms is almost like sponge. As well in the summer time there are sprinklers that turn on so that the kids can cool down from the Summer heat. From slides to swing to baby swings to monkey bars to a field that you can enjoy playing soccer or just run wild. Tennis courts are there as well and are normally busy in the summer months. Basket ball nets are located by the schools as well. See you there in the Summer trust me the kids will love you for it.

I am completely biased on this review. The Uniacke House was one of my favourite places to visit as…read morea child. I lived close enough that I could ride my bike there. I explored most of the nooks and crannies of the actual museum. As I got older, kids used to go swimming in Uniacke Lake and explore the forest. Or pick delicious wild blueberries. Since then, the site has greatly expanded. There are now extensive groomed walking trails. There are both long and short trails available all year long (though not maintained in the off season). Feeling a bit peckish? There's a tea room to enjoy. Or pack a picnic and enjoy one of the picnic tables by the water. The forest is green and beautiful and reminds me of all that I love about Nova Scotia.
