This is day 3 of an orchid plant from Viburnum. I'll let the pictures do the talking. Petals were drooping and I dug it up and saw this. Roots were moldy and rotten, there was no way of saving the overall plant. Why sell an orchid plant to paying customers if it's already dead? My advice is go to Wegmans and buy an orchid plant for $20, throw it in a vase and add a stick and you're at the level of Viburnum- just without the disappointment. read more

I stopped into Viburnum Designs yesterday late afternoon as I was going to a performance at McCarter and wanted to take flowers to my artist/friend in the show. I was greeted by Karen and I asked her about the feasibility of putting together a presentation bouquet then and there and was assured by her that wasn't going to be any kind of problem at all. I usually have a "theme" to what flowers I am looking for but, in this case, I was looking primarily for flowers in shades of yellow. Karen first showed me what was available there in the front of the shop and, while I perused those, she went into the back of the store to bring out what was there. She returned with several more varieties of yellow flowers and we went to work with both me saying what I liked and then asking her input as well. After deciding on the many flowers to be used, Karen went to work assembling the bouquet there in the front of the shop with me watching. I loved the fact that when I told her that I much preferred arrangements that were asymmetrical, she knew exactly what I meant. Within minutes she had assembled the blossoms into a gorgeous bouquet that I was so happy with I almost wanted to keep it for myself rather than giving it to my intended recipient. My regret is that I didn't take a snapshot of the bouquet before relinquishing it so that I could post it here. It was stunning! read more

While Rachel was very positive and engaging when we booked, there was less enthusiasm as the wedding got closer. Be advised that their DRIPLESS candles do drip. We had wax all over the table and many of the candlesticks burned totally out. When I spoke with Rachel, she was less than helpful so I e-mailed the owner, but never heard back. Rachel seemed to want to debate/argue any request rather than accommodate. It became exhausting having to defend each and every request. Boy, do I wish I had just gone to the supermarket. I needed a bouquet to celebrate my wife's PhD, and told them so. I had walked past this store many times while we lived in Princeton, so I decided to swing through. "Bouquets start at [a high price that I'm concealing for my wife's sake]," said the florist, "and are all custom." They had a variety of beautiful purples and some amazing yellow flowers that looked like the sun on a stick. So I said I wanted purples, with a splash of yellow. My mistake--they took what looked to be a head of red leaf lettuce, stuck in some depressing purple thingies, and put in three even more depressing yellow thingies. The resulting bouquet looked somewhere between funerary and apologetic, like I was sorry for homicide. "Does this work for you?" I found myself saying "yes," even as my mind was saying "heck no." I don't know why I did that. I also don't know why the next thing they did was wrap the whole thing in a sad green mesh veil thingy. Combined with the very short-trimmed stems, it transformed the bouquet from funerary to potpourri. See picture. read more

Viburnum makes exquisite arrangements. The unfortunate thing is you pay dearly and without fail the arrangement is dying within 24 hours. This has happened to me on the last 3 arrangements from them. When you pay that amount of money they should be lasting as long as the grocery store flowers for a fraction of the price. Part of the problem is individual stems are in water tubes which the water is not reaching the stem (aftèr 12 hours???) I only know this as I pulled out the dead bloom and found the reason. So if you are diligent about watering you may actually not be helping your arrangements. I have supported them for years and love their arrangements but no longer are we willing to literally throw money away. read more

We found Rachel to be knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She laid out a sample arrangement which looked a bit better than the end product but on the whole, the reception flowers were quite lovely and the many low and low candles added a lot. The disappointment was the bride's bouquet which was quite underwhelming as were the maids bouquets. Moreover half of the groomsmen boutonnières was missing. Not a day to suffer disappointments. Some carry through issues so I would advise you to inspect the wedding party flowers before Viburnum's rep departs. Viburnum, you need to deliver....no bride wants a refund for missing items. read more

First, as someone who has worked in the floral industry, I can say their product is exceptionally tasteful, fresh and beautiful. Secondly, after personally speaking with Ashling over a minor discrepancy with my wedding, she was more than willing to bend over backwards to make sure I was happy. I have no idea where the negative reviews on her are stemming from but they are simply inaccurate. She and her staff (especially Rachel) are excellent, personable, visionary and absolutely provide 100% customer satisfaction and service. Terrible. The price point is god awful for what you get - the arrangement was honestly an embarrassment. The hydrangeas are already dead...a day later. I called them to tell them about the situation, manager Misty was not helpful whatsoever. Still awaiting that call she promised me. Moral of the story, stick with the florist you know and love. While the flowers were ok/nice, the customer service was surprisingly not, especially given the previous reviews. It took about 10 minutes for me to get assistance even though the store was empty. The employee/owner? had been distracted in a casual conversation with another staff member. So when I finally asked for help, she appeared as if I had rudely interrupted her conversation. Despite the fact that shops should try their best to cater to customers, her approach that day did not seem to value that. The transaction would have been much more positive had she been even a tad friendly- especially since I spent almost $50 in flowers in her shop. I was tempted for a moment to not complete the transaction with her but decided it wasn't worth it after all the time I had spent there. Plus I try to be cordial with folks in the service industry since I try to always support local businesses. However, this local business will be one I won't return to again. read more

I accidentally stumbled into this store last night, on my way to what used to be called "Bunches" or something, and was pleasantly surprised by this hidden treasure of a plant store, in possibly the strangest building known to Princeton. Prior to looking up the definition of "Viburnum" (Viburnum is a genus of about 150-175 species of shrubs or (in a few species) small trees that were previously included in the family Caprifoliaceae. Recent classifications, based on molecular phylogeny, put them in the family Adoxaceae), I would never have known that this was a plant store. Opps. The woman working (I regret not asking her name) was a spunky spitfire of a Brit who knew everything and anything about any plant or flower - seeing as I know nothing about plants, this was not only extremely helpful, but very impressive. The store was a little dark, but smelled awesome. There were flowers and plants and some of the coolest design-y type vases and pots all over the place. They had stones and fountains, and while the plants were reasonably priced, the accessories tend to be a little on the higher end. Then again, you're in Princeton, and you certainly get what you pay for (in this case, quality). They are great with helping you with your exact needs - I needed something for my desk at work, very little light, and low maintenance, but still something nice looking - and I walked out with an awesome Zamioculcas, lovingly referred to by the sales woman as a "Zami". She knows and loves what she's doing, and it shows, and she was ridiculously patient with my indecisiveness over what to purchase. So friendly! This place is great, but they need to work on their advertising and get themselves known! Two thumbs very high up. read more

A family member sent my mother an arrangement which was limp and drooping in less than five days. When I contacted the store, I was advised that that was the nature of the flowers the store selected (so why select them?). My mother was offered a replacement arrangement, which she accepted. We even asked for less expensive flowers that would last longer. The replacement arrangement never showed up and a follow-up email was never acknowledged. I spent almost 10000 dollars on the flowers for my wedding and the centerpieces were not as big as they were during my sample meeting .. my entrance centerpiece which was over 600 dollars looked nothing like it was supposed to and they forgot to put the candles all over my tables which completely made the look to my venue very disappointed after spending that amount of money on flowers it should be absolutely perfect and when I texted Rachel about forgetting the candles on my tables which she knew to do and I was very clear about it and she confirmed she did not have the decency to even answer and apologize after spending close to 10000 dollars completely rude never use again or recommend everyone should go elsewhere! read more

I asked for a particular orange flower that they had the week before, for Valentine's day and they didn't have the exact one as last time. However, an employee there was holding onto that particular one for herself, but was kind enough to give it to me. It's the night before Valentine's day and i think your kindness (Rachel?) Has made my day, and will certainly make my girlfriend, of a month, feel very special. It is an extremely nice flower shop, however the service is terrible. The lady who helped us was very nice, however the florist was extremely rude as hell. The florist was extremely judgemental. We asked for the price for one of her arrangements that we felt was extremely nice, but she told us that it was "kinda expensive" as if we couldn't afford it. Good customer service is the utmost important thing to maintain in a business. If you don't have that, you can lose customers. I'd rather spend $1000 on a plant where I am treated with respect rather than pay $250 on a plant where I am thought poorly of. It's about customer service and respect. People should be treated the way they would like to be treated. It's quite sad because it's quite a lovely little store with very lovely flower arrangements. read more

I discovered Viburnum while on a hunt for a nearby florist shop to pickup some flowers for my mother whom i was visiting in the hospital. It was about 20 minutes before closing and I found the closest parking spot I could and sprinted down to the shop. As I entered, I must have startled the man who worked there and as I struggled to breathe, I asked him if it was too late to have a bouquet made for my mom. He greeted me with a smile and said no not at all i made it just in time and to relax and he'd put something beautiful together for me quickly. Relieved and able to catch my breathe I waited for about 10-15 minutes and when he was finished I saw one of the most beautiful arrangement I had ever seen in my life. I don't really make a point of reviewing places unless I'm really, really impressed. For the third summer now these guys have transformed our back patio into what can only be called an oasis. The space, once affectionately known as 'tar beach,' due to the fact that tables and chairs sat on the blacktop behind the Ivy and acted as our own little slice of outdoor seating (a rarity in Princeton!) As the space grew in popularity we decided to make it 'nice.' I was not aware that improving the appearance of that same space some 35 years in, would even be an issue. Long expensive story short, we got the green light. For those fortunate enough to successfully navigate all the hurdles in place to obtain the proper permits and variances and site plans and then to convince advisory boards to vote 'yeah' is a frustrating and COSTLY endeavor. After all that, when we got the go ahead we HAD to make it nice. Really nice! I had no clue who to go to, and that's when someone recommended Viburnum. 'Viburnum?, I said 'The flower shop?' How wrong I was. In my wildest imaginations I couldn't have envisioned what the folks at Viburnum did to accomplish the transformation. Ashling took over and promptly told me what to have made structurally (fence boxes--but the whole length of the fence.) From there, I was politely but firmly told to step aside. She meant it. From there her crew took over. I didn't even know what they were planting, but boy am I glad they did. Words can't adequately express what the patio looks like now. I have people calling, emailing, stopping in, all asking who did the work? Well, it's Viburnum Designs. For those of you, like me, that thought Viburnum was a local flower shop, think again. These guys come to your house, your business, your work, your kids junior prom, your wedding and even one day I'm sure, your wake! This place is right around the corner from where I live. It has a beautiful inviting front window. They have a nice selection of flowers but what I like best about the place is that they have been so good about meeting my requests. Once I asked for small bouquet to give to my 5 year old son and they made a beautiful little one with a big sunflower and some other filler greens. So simple, so sweet, very affordable (I think it was $5 or $10). They also make some gorgeous little bouquets for $15-$20. I've bought beautiful potted cala lillies for mother's day. It's a great place to have around the corner. They always seem to be able to make something special no matter the price range. read more

Working with Rachel at Viburnum was one of the easiest aspects of wedding planning! The flowers came out more perfect than I could have imagined. Rachel is very talented at taking an idea/feeling you want to convey and making it a reality. I wanted something soft and romantic, organic but not too rustic, and incorporated multiple pinks/pastels with varied greenery, but didn't wind up looking too busy. all I have to say is , be very very prepared! I walked in after my hair cut down by cosmo bleu and I've always seen this shop and was tempted one year to order flowers for my mom on Mother's Day but I never got the chance. so I came in here wanting peonies. and then was looking around they didnt have any in the front. someone came and asked if I needed assistance I said yes I would like some peonies. she went to the back and got one half open bud and one closed on and said she had white and pink. I asked her how long the buds stayed open and she said a few days. then she asked me what I wanted I was hesitant cause I was trying to imagine what would look good. then she said both and I agreed thinking she meant both colors - no that wasn't what she meant. she meant the open or closed buds. it was after I was paying for it that I had realized and I wanted to say something but she was off helping someone else and I felt bad cause i think they already cut it. so definitely be prepared. I wanted something else. I couldn't think of the name and while getting my hair bleached and dyed I wasted all my phone batteries. I had 95% charged in the morning but only 1% by the time i left the salon. I wanted to look up the flowers I wanted which I took a pic of in my phone. but there's 3000 pictures in my phone so it would've taken me awhile to look for it. and my phone was going to die anyway so I decided against it. but now I'm home it was ranunculus that I wanted! so definitely if you're a first time florist shopper, like me, come prepared. read more

Above and beyond! I called Viburnum from San Diego this morning, and spoke with Ashley to request delivery of flowers for my elderly mom, who lives in Princeton - it's her 97th birthday today. My mom was going to be out for lunch, and I let Ashley know. I asked them not to leave the flowers on her stoop, as is hard for her to lift them from there. After two delivery attempts, the last at 3pm, with no answer at the door, Ashley called me to let me know they would call my mom in the morning, and try again tomorrow. I emailed my mom, who called Viburnum when she got home at 4. The drivers were done, but Ashley called one back in, and got the flowers delivered at 4:30 so they would arrive on my mom's birthday!
