This is the worst bank I've ever had. The first problem I had is they don't issue Debit cards unless you let them do a hard hit credit check on all name holders of the account per "policy". It's a debit card, which means it doesn't build credit, so there shouldn't be any reason for them to pull a hard hit credit check on anyone. A debit card acts the same as a check, so the only thing they should do is a checks system check for debit cards. Explaining the difference to them doesn't get you anywhere.
Secondly, they require $50 in your savings account to be a member. It was explained to us that you are allowed to go under the $50 throughout the month, but when the 1st of the month arrives, make sure to have $50 in the account or else they'll fine you. We happened to go below $50 one month, but got it back to the $50 mark before the 1st. They still fined us.
Thirdly, (this is a 2-in-1) they don't allow your work deposits to clear first before allowing rent checks to clear afterwards. We've gone around and around with them on this. They even told us they could see the deposit on their end (which sits on the app as pending for 2 days prior to the deposit date, so they had better be able to see it if the account holder can see it,) but for whatever reason, they decide to let any checks hit the account first, before clearing deposits, so they can hit you with a NSF fee.
Most places allow deposits from work to clear around midnight or 1 in the morning. VIA doesn't clear deposits until 8am-2pm of that day. It messes up everything.
For the check that did not clear, from 2 paragraphs ago, VIA told us the check would have cleared if the landlord sent the check back in. When we spoke with our landlord, they told us they only received a letter stating the check was NSF and didn't give them the check back. How are they suppose to send the check back to try again if VIA doesn't send the check back and tells their members they do. We even have a copy of the letter that was sent to our landlord.
This "credit union" isn't a true credit union. They operate like they're for-profit, not as if they're trying to invest in their investors. Worthless bank. We are switching and closing out all of our accounts. read more
