This place is a life-saver for my partner and I. Having retired from the food biz last year and…read morebeing on a set retirement income, there's been a few months where we were both contemplating fasting for a week or getting a par-time job. Luckily a friend told us of Hope Villages. This organization not only is a food bank but reaches out to people who are in need of a safe haven from domestic violence, emergency housing for homeless families, basic needs and affordable housing. For us, it was food to stretch out until our next retirement check. One has to live in Pinellas County to obtain the food. Pretty simple form to fill out along with a photo I.D. We take a bus which lets us off close by. Most pull up in their cars but I find being on foot I can walk right up and get a box of food. We've been lucky with getting rides or catching the bus back. They stock ones box with at least two or three frozen meals ( thanks Publix!), maybe four different types of bread loaves, canned beans, veggies, soups...( they ask if you have a stove). Sometimes you get bacon, always get cereal, some energy bars, some kind of pastry, dried beans, sometimes fresh fruit and or juice. Usually one gets a gallon of milk, butter and sometimes eggs. Really, you get a wonderful selection of food staples which can stretch ones budget. The volunteers are so patient and warm. I have witnessed a woman who lost her loved one, breakdown sobbing as a volunteer loaded her car up with food.mHe put his hand on her shoulder and then they clasped hands for a brief prayer. I thank the people there and the organization with all my heart. Blessings to all!

Largo Central Railroad - A is loving the train ride

Largo Central Park itself is beautiful and beautifully laid out. We were happy to visit during the month of December 2019. This is a super cute small scale railroad which is suitable for kids ages 1 +. During the first weekend of the month they offer complimentary rides on both Saturday and Sunday. The rides are from 10am-4pm and be prepared to wait in line. Although we arrived there shortly after 10am there was still a fairly fast moving but lengthy line that made me wonder how it would be if you arrived before 10am. There were two trains in operation the day we went so this made the process faster. Upon arrival you are asked to fill out and sign a waiver for you and your family that is taking part in the ride that absolves the "railroad company" of any liability if you are injured. Then you are given a punch card with the date you attended punched out on it. You are allowed to rode once on either day of the first full weekend of the month. For December they had a Santa and Mrs. Claus sitting on a bench under the covered portion of the outdoor "station" as you meandered through the line. You could take a complimentary picture with the duo and they handed out candy canes to the little ones. Everyone that worked there was so nice as well! When you arrive We chose to go on a Sunday in December and were not disappointed. Our daughter is train/ride obsessed and loved this. She enjoyed looking at all the holiday decor and zooming past the water feature as well as going in the tunnel. It was fun and a cute activity for her to partake in. She loved pointing out the other train go by as we whizzed past and she loves going in the tunnel. She had a permasmile the entire time. They even offer a Polar Express Ride on select evenings during the holiday season where all the decorations are illuminated and I believe refreshments are included for a fee. If our daughter had a later bedtime we would have bought tickets for this but it will have to wait. After going on the train we checked out different aspects of the park such as their massive Christmas tree (daughter is obsessed) as well as their awesome playground area which was the coolest that I have been to in awhile. There were lots of features for a variety of ages! Parking for the railroad is the same parking as the park.

We attended a New Year prefix dinner in which we prepared via EventBrite. We got a lot for the price and almost everything that was served was grown on that farm. Seating is outside and it is communal seating with no assigned seats. I am unsure how dietary restrictions are delta with in that situation because due to the Seating we ended up at a single table and I have Celiacs so all the food they brought to us specifically was gluten-free. Street parking is free, but its very crowded because there are also homes there. As far as food goes everything was very good. It isn't high on seasonings, but the flavor and taste of the organic foods is strong and has a lot of umami. Out of all the things we were served the main dinner which was some kind of chicken dish was fantastic. ait was like a stewed chicken with mustard greens. It kind of had some spices that you would find in Indian Cuisine. Dining here, you will get a lot for what you have paid for and the money goes to funding the farm as well the communities they help. I would highly recommend this farm for any of their events. Just know it's rain or shine and in our experience it was pouring rain, but the enclosure is pretty large. Props to the Chef there as well!

Emanuel, the very kind, patient and relaxed owner greeted me. We chatted about his farm, the 15 gardens he sponsors at local schools, and the amazing health benefits of fresh organic veggies. His business is a non-profit. I asked what could I buy and 'Emanuel said, "let's see!" We walked around, he let me try fresh veggies and herbs and we harvested right then and there! Talk about fresh! This is the freshest! Everything we picked was super delicious and my wonderful wife and I consumed it all over the next few days.
