Maverick went from walking in one week to almost lying on the ground and not able to walk. This disease is very aggressive. We had another veterinarian tell us that we had to put Maverick to sleep. We were truly devastated, and at the time Maverick was very young. I just couldn't accept putting him down so fast before I research some different options. I came across Natchez Trace veterinarian. I started reading some other stories about acupuncture on his website. So I gave Dr Smith's office a call to make Maverick an appointment. And I am so happy that we did because we gave Maverick a second chance on life. Maverick want from getting treatments there on his back acupuncture treatments. Into our amazement he was up and running within a couple of weeks of treatment. I honestly could not believe it. And let me tell you our family truly amazed by what Dr Smith has done for Maverick. Maverick live to have four more great years of life. sad to say he did pass on though because he end up getting cancer later on. But we had to enjoy him for a few more years and he lived happy and comfortable and was running and playing like he did before he was diagnosed with the disease. all I can say is, Dr Smith and his staff are miracle workers and I thank them so much for everything they've done for our family. Our neighbors recommended them to us, and after our first visit, I completely understand why. Dr. Paula and Kaitlyn were both absolutely wonderful. They were incredibly sweet, patient, and helpful, and what really stood out was how not pushy they were. We've unfortunately had experiences at other vets where we felt pressured into services or treatments, but that was not the case here at all. Everything was explained clearly, and we never felt rushed or pressured into anything. Most importantly, Doug and Carl were both so comfortable with them. You can tell when a vet and their staff genuinely care about the animals they're working with, and both of our dogs seemed completely at ease. Dr. Abelt is one of the best vets I have ever used! He is kind, caring, extremely knowledgeable,…read moreand competent. He is patient and takes the time to fully answer any questions one may have, which is important, especially when one doesn't have a medical/science background. My dog developed an ulcer, which then quickly progressed into peritonitis and a perforated ulcer, both life threatening conditions. Dr. Abelt performed two surgeries, saved my dog's life, and cared for him for a week in "ICU". When my dog refused to eat, developed unpreventable complications, and became more sick (not Dr. Abelt's fault), he immediately transferred my dog to Nashville Veterinary Specialists (also amazing vets!). It should also be noted that Dr. Abelt has a mobile veterinary practice and when animals are ill enough that they need to be in ICU, he keeps them at his house overnight with him and his wife (also a vet) and they both check on the animals constantly throughout the night. He also brings the animals with him wherever he goes during the day so they are monitored at all times. The animals aren't left in a vet office overnight by themselves like in a LOT of places. Dr. Abelt treated my dog as though he was one of his own. I have seen him give my dog love and affection just as I would and although my dog is extremely anxious and skittish, he took to Dr. Abelt right away. After the transfer to the specialist, Dr. Abelt even continued to call to check on my dog's prognosis AND visited him in the ICU at NVS. In summary, not only is Dr. Abelt highly experienced and well respected among vets throughout the city, his level of care and compassion are exemplary. I HIGHLY recommend him!

Scheduled an initial exam to establish my pet as a new patient. No current medical issues. Upon arriving .... No single person ever talked to my pet or tried to greet him or interact with him in front of me ...at any point. Which was very odd to me. The experience was like a trip to the twilight zone. Took the afternoon off to bring in my cat, however after a lengthy list of questions and recommendation of updated vaccines ...they took him in the back. I thought they were only taking him back to weigh him. I was so confused with their process as no one explained to me what was happening. I thought they were just weighing him and bringing him back and then the vet would come in and talk to me, examine him and proceed. None of that happened. So after about 10 min ...in comes the vet with my kitty - says hi I'm Dr .... returning him to say him "he's not happy and won't let us do anything with him" I said oh really? Wow, okay sorry. I could tell and smell he had spewed (which he never has before) ... so that was enough to tell me the little guy had a horrible experience. He's not feral, never has been and has always had good interactions in the past ...he's an indoor, typically laid back and low key cat. Vet stated that this is usually the way it goes with cats?? Im thinking ...Really? Never happened before with any other vet - I had another cat for 20 yrs never had someone tell me that before. Color me crazy, but I thought all vets were trained to know how to handle cats? And if this is the way it goes here .... why not have me come get meds first prior to his initial visit? Mind you, this is my first interaction with the vet. I've never been to a vet before where I didn't meet the vet on the front end before or during his initial physical exam and or not with me in the same room. When the vet came in with my cat returning him to me stating I would need to reschedule after he's medicated ... the dr seemed frazzled and put out ... his energy was so off putting - that I knew right away this isn't the vet for my pet or the right place for me. The whole experience was sub par (actually horrible) and very strange, not to mention a literal waste of my time off from work. After no one came back in the room and since my pet seemed in shock - I went to the front desk. They sent us home with the $17 meds ... no one even asked me if/when I would want to reschedule! Really unprofessional and a really bad experience! Needless to say I won't be returning. Guess I've been fortunate to have wonderful vets/staff in the past so I will be returning to a more professional, caring environment with someone who actually cares.

The prices are on par with what you'd expect from a specialist so be prepared however the service, team and atmosphere of the facility makes it worth it.
