When everyone else wanted to put her to sleep some years back you kept her alive and well. Friday, January 11, 2019 I caught a skunk in a live trap and released it in a wildlife preserve north of town... instead of going into the preserve it turned around, climbed into my van, eventually, with "coaxing" it jumped out and scurried away... with all the windows rolled down I drove home. Had some repair work to do on a home down the block, April Showers followed me the whole 100 yards, by the time she got to where I was working the job was pretty much done, we turned around and slowly walked back home. I really felt good- April was getting exercise like she hadn't done in years, even following me from room to room indoors and vacant lot to vacant lot in the park... but then a second thought made me wonder if she was trying to tell me something... she's lost so much weight the past 2 - 3 years, though her appetite's been good I've been fearful recently a circling hawk might grab her, and she'd been showing recent signs of frustration due to waning strength shown in failed jumps and an occasional misstep along the path, a table's edge and the front edge of the kitchen sink on the way to the top of her favorite room in the house- the refrigerator. She climbed to her nap on the fridge after a small lunch and I went outside, trying to deodorize my van of skunk. When I went back in the house a very fat sparrow flew over my shoulder, perching on top of the refrigerator, not knowing it was inches from a slumbering cat... April turned to look, the alarmed sparrow flew off, and with a flying leap April sprang for the bird... but fell short and landed on the floor. She looked and acted ok then and for the next couple days but then began spontaneously meowing a bit more often than usual... I scrambled to cat care websites, I rubbed honey on her gums, she could still make her way to the top of the fridge and still hop up to nap on my lap until Monday night, she went to the litter box and was too tired or too much in pain to get out. I carried her to the bedroom, it was 10:30 PM, set her on the floor, as I undressed for bed she crawled and hopped into bed, she cried or moaned a couple times that night, even walking on my stomach and chest to my face as she sometimes would do through the years, I'd rub her head and ears and gums, then she'd turn and go back to a spot beside me. Early Tuesday morning, each time I looked at her I thought she was dead but a closer look saw she was breathing. She cried or moaned a couple more times before sunrise and lay still with slight breathing. About a mile from your office I stopped for a red light, she started moving, maybe she only needs a shot of B12, adrenaline, or something... one leg kicked out like she was stretching, her mouth opened like a yawn, I had to look away and drive for the light turned green but the next time I looked at her she was gone. I'm sorry I waited until it was too late, the symptoms were there, too reluctant, too stupid, too slow to admit it and do a better job trying to saving her life.

Briarwood's folks were prompt and wonderful on the phone. They knew exactly what offerings they had, their schedule, prices, with no hesitation over the phone. They were willing to take in both of our dogs and a stray (THREE dogs) in one appointment, and that appointment was a masterclass in caring efficiency. Taking care of three dogs at once is impressive, but doing it with care and making sure each one gets the individual attention they need is unheard of. Not only did we get thorough checkups and necessary shots for everyone, but since they're a groomer too they threw in things like nail trimming (much needed for my old, slow dogs) just as part of the appointment. That alone was huge. I was particularly shocked when a little less than a week after our appointment, the vet we saw called to follow up and see how the stray was doing (he'd been malnourished and weak when we brought him in) which was above-and-beyond, and exactly the kind of thing I look for when trying to find someone to look after my furry friends. Seriously, I could not recommend Briarwood more!

Working here was one of the most toxic experiences I've had. The practice manager and owner created…read morean environment where employees felt undervalued, overworked, and manipulated. In my experience, there was a strong focus on the financial side of the business while employee well-being and morale seemed to be an afterthought. One of the most concerning aspects was the lack of professionalism. I frequently witnessed and endured management speaking negatively about employees to other employees, as well as showing confidential information on her computer, cell phone, and in person. which created an atmosphere of distrust and anxiety. Instead of fostering teamwork, it felt like people were constantly worried about becoming the next topic of conversation. The workload was excessive, expectations were unrealistic, and many employees were pushed to the point of burnout. During my time there, the practice lost nearly its entire staff within about a month. Rather than addressing the underlying issues, management appeared to simply "refresh" the staff with new hires. Unfortunately, I saw some of those new employees questioning whether they wanted to stay within their first week. Every workplace has challenges, but a high turnover rate and consistently low morale should be taken seriously. I hope leadership takes an honest look at the work environment and makes meaningful changes, because the employees and patients deserve better. The practice manager also frequently made demeaning and insulting comments about employees and former coworkers. I witnessed her ridicule a former doctor by mocking the way he excitedly flailed his arms after recognizing a mutual client his father knew. She then insinuated that his behavior meant he was autistic, using the term in a derogatory way. Regardless of the doctor's background or personality, mocking someone's mannerisms and using a developmental condition as the basis for a joke was unprofessional, disrespectful, and contributed to an unhealthy workplace culture. Another concern I had was the strong emphasis placed on recommending dental procedures. It often felt as though dentistry was viewed as the practice's primary source of revenue, and I frequently saw pet owners encouraged to schedule dental procedures that, in my opinion and based on what I observed, were not always clearly medically necessary. This created the impression that financial considerations were sometimes prioritized over individualized patient care, which made me uncomfortable as both an employee and an advocate for my patients.

I was not a fan of the tech taking the dog the vet checking them out then visiting with me if they thought it was necessary. As they are both healthy I tolerated it as the main thing they received was vaccines. Last week I had April's teeth cleaned and while she was sedated I also had them remove a growth from her belly. When the results of the biopsy came back the Vet left a lengthy voice mail and told me the results had been emailed to me. Not sure why they did not just say please call me so we can discuss the results. Yesterday I took April for a follow up and stitch removal when the tech came to get her I said I needed to speak with the vet as well. Unfortunately I was told by two office staff members the vet was not there and one suggested I had not stated when I made the appointment that I wanted to speak to the vet. So basically their poor professionalism was my fault. I am transferring my dogs care and would recommend that you consider wisely as you choose a vet. I have learned my lesson.

The have holiday photo booths all year round for the doggies. Prices are decent. Parking is pretty easy unless it is crazy busy. I have only expettvar once and we have been going here for 4+ years. They really care about the animals in their care. The only downside is they close on certain holidays for several days depending on the holiday. They provide a service where they will come to your home to put your pet to sleep which we will need for one of ours when the time comes. He hates the vet. This is the only vet we have found in the area that we feel comfortable with. The facility is clean.

So we all decided to board them with our veterinarian for the week we were gone. I am ashamed that I have not posted this earlier and think of all the harm that has happened to other pets boarded there but my neighbor didn't follow through with the complaint to the veterinarian board. I asked for the pictures and her paperwork but she lost them. Back to what happened was their Dog Princess was a large dog and she must have been put in a little cage because on our return she had holes the size of a half dollar in both of her front elbows and at least 2 inches deep. That poor baby had been put in a cage that she couldn't stand up in and must have been on her elbows for the entire week. The knew they were wrong and didn't even make them pay for the week of boarding but didn't volunteer an explanation or to take care of her now with these two gaping sores. Needless to say we never took our dogs back to them and requested our files on our babies and they never went back either. This veterinarian shouldn't have a license to care for any animals. When they asked why I requested my files the only thing I could say is remember Princess and what you did to that poor baby. I wouldn't suggest your care to my worst enemy.
