Level of care has declined for the animals since Covid…read more We left our healthy 3 small dogs for a few days and wrote down (as verbally gave) strict instructions with the check in person that meds and diet restrictions were needed for one of the pups. I emphasized the strictness of feeding ONLY the food I brought, which was frozen fresh food already measured out in ziploc baggies. This pup in particular has severe allergies to everything but lamb and rice. The meds I brought needed to be administered for once a day for two more days. When I picked the pups up on the 4th day, I could tell that my instructions were not followed as my allergy-ridden pup had severely broken out with inflammation, redness, goopiness on his face. He was scratching profusely too. I was so upset but no one was available to discuss this with who could help. Once I got my pups home I took a closer look to examine the same dog and found that he also had broken out badly on his underside including on his little wee wee. I called the UDP back and told them about this additional evidence of showing that he was given food that was not the lamb I brought specifically for him. I couldn't get anyone on the phone to talk to, just through texting. The person responding to me denied feeding anything other than the expensive fresh food I brought for him--should have I expected anything differently? It was simple instructions, I thought. Too bad the workers didn't follow them. These symptoms only appear when he eats non-lamb based foods. I took him to my vet and right away the skin graph showed he had developed a very bad staph infection! The vet asked how did this happen, to which I told him of my suspicions with UDP boarding personnel not following the instructions I gave. I ended up with a $480 invoice from the vet for the exam, tests, and medications including antibiotics! I reached out again to UDP and got nowhere on accepting some responsibility for this. My biggest concern is that someone's pet could experience an even more serious result if the staff continue to function this way with clients. Having a vet clinic onsite doesn't matter if there is no reporting or interaction between the two groups. Honestly, many of the personnel now working in the facility appear to be going through a rehab program of sorts. A bit judgmental on my part but difficulty lies in appearance and demeanor. I know the vet clinic is second location to the one in West Bountiful. We used to go to this vet clinic but changed after we started being nickel and dime'd for unnecessary services, pressured up-sales and some influencing/guilting into more unnecessary treatments. One of our pups passed away while in their care too. We changed to the Clearfield Vet Clinic instead and got better service and pricing. Maybe it's time for the owner(s) to re-examine the operations of these businesses before things get worse. I used to love this place but since before Covid, I watched a steady decline in the quality and don't feel comfortable boarding my pets here anymore. Such a shame.

Results did not necessarily say cancer but the vet did not want to rule it out and let me worry. They were ready for surgery and to send the mass out for testing. I called around, and set an appointment with Canyons because the front desk workers. They just seemed real and very personable. Even though it was a couple days out I felt this place maybe worth the wait. They kept their appointment, and I did not have to wait. I love this aspect because my dog hated vets. The vet looked over and saw the bump. She asked if I just got vaccinated. "Yes, a couple of weeks ago." She didn't want to go any further than that until a couple months if bump did not resolve. She felt confident and knew exactly what it was given the location of a rabies vax. I explained to the doctor at canyons what my other vet said. And ask for the pricing for comparison. Canyons came in cheaper in everything. I was in and out and back home within a half hour with just a simple small office visit. My old fired vet was over an hour and 200 dollars for testing. And wanted to book surgery. Said she was giving me the "gold standard" . It turned out to be the worst advice. Dog's lump is now gone. And Canyons saved me over 1000 dollars. I can now spend this money to get his teeth cleaned. Instead of wasting money on getting a vaccine bump removed.

Called clinic and was told they were booked every day for 2 weeks and couldn't see my dog. Suggested I take her to urgent care. Was told they don't take walk-ins. They see my dog almost monthly so how is that a walk-in?? It was explained to me that the doctors are booked out so far and can't see any animals for 2 weeks in part because they are training graduates...seriously? You are prioritizing training graduates over your clients and their animals. Even if that is the case who would verbalize that to a loyal client. What a terrible practice. If you are a client of this clinic, I would strongly encourage you to find a new vet!

Loved this vet clinic! They did a dental cleaning for my 6 yr old standard Poodle who had a broken…read moretooth and lots of tartar, her breath was horrible! The vet is really good, she was able to save my dogs cracked tooth because she is specially trained to ado sealant and basically repair the tooth where most vets just pull it if it's broken. I was so happy they could save her large canine that she mostly chews with. The price was fair as well. Would highly recommend. Her teeth are perfectly white now. They also offer a sedation free dental cleaning service if the dog doesn't have major teeth problems like the broken tooth my dog has. If the dog has a good temperament they can clean the teeth with no sedation which would be much more affordable and safer for the dog. I am planning to return for the sedation free cleaning in the future.

I also understand the level of difficulty to diagnose a kitty with many routine tests and x-rays you need to run. But so far, with our routine check-ups and treating a bite wound, West Lake has been great. If you are an old customer with them, they really value your patronage. West Lake has been stellar with its low prices, customer service and quality of care. They have been superb before they got popular! AND, they have kept their prices low even after getting booked out for weeks. The clinic itself doesn't look eye-grabbing from the outside, but they operate like an actual compassionate animal hospital, not like a corporate office. They would never rush you(from what I experienced at VCA Taylorsville). They take the time and tell you everything you need to know. The vet here doesn't give the impression of the clock is ticking and got somewhere to go. Patience is their highest virtue that I admire in the staff here and the vets. They don't laugh at your anxiety as a pet parent but instead, will guide you through in what you need to know. West Lake has raised my standards for all vet hospitals in the valley.

He has allergies so he needed a Benadryl injection…read more They took him into the back and gave him a benedryl injection and when they brought him out, he could not walk on his right hind leg. 5 days later, I had to take him into emergency to see what was wrong with his leg. They gave him some meds and sent me home and told me to get an appointment with the vet again. When I brought him back, they told me that it was a neurological problem. I have had to make an appointment with a orthopedic surgeon to see what they did to him. If you don't care about your animal, go ahead and take them to West lake veterinarian, but I will never take my animals there again. Just to get a bortella vaccination.

Not only was she friendly and nice. She genuinely cares about your pet and the life for your pet. She asked a lot of questions to ensure she provides the best care needed. I would've never thought that I would need additional shots if my cat was an outdoor cat versus an indoor. And because she was an indoor, she did not want to add anything additional to the bill, if not needed. I even left with a little goodie bag for my kitten.

Truly want to like this clinic but this last visit was the last straw. The staff in the entry were…read morekind and helpful as was the technician. However, while I was waiting for 30 minutes to have our dog seen, I had to listen to loud talking with the staff including swearing and calling someone a "B****". Then Dr. Butler comes in (after I can hear her talking so loudly about how I chose not to get a kennel cough shot) and proceeds to be very abrasive, loud and dismissive. She cut me off about 5 times with every question I asked, was upset I didn't want to get the kennel cough shot and then acted very passive-aggressively when saying "so your dog doesn't like other dogs". That was her say I should get this shot. She continued to cut me off until I asked her to let me finish. In addition, the dentist who worked on my dog's teeth to clean them last said she could come back for a teeth cleaning without anesthesia as she was so calm and cooperative. When I brought this up to Dr. Butler, she nearly cut my head off saying that would be "bad medical practice and he has NO authority to determine this, only I CAN". SO UNPROFESSIONAL and again, seems as though they are only interested in profit, not wellness. She proceeded to tell me their dentist has no authority to make decisions or recommend treatments, in a very rough and unprofessional way. Hopefully, their new vet will be better.

I was so grateful they were available so I could have peace of mind leaving them. When we dropped them off we were given a tour and everything was explained to us how they'd be handled while we were away! Each day I texted for info or a photo of them and they were always quick to reply and very helpful! This really gave me a lot of confidence they were safe and enjoying their space! The facility is clean and well organized! I appreciate that the dogs are separated by size. Neither Roxy or Jake seemed stressed or bug eyed exhausted when I came to pick them up! They were mellow and were clean and their things were gathered for us to head home from the airport! When I've picked them up from some other places, my Roxy would seem disoriented and overwhelmed! So I was beyond grateful she appeared relaxed! We will be sure to use this location for all boarding needs in the future. Even though it's far from us, it was nice to be able to trust our babies were well taken care of!

Backyard Dog Care was a literal lifesaver for me since I wasn't neutering my puppy at 7 months old…read morelike all of the other doggy daycares required. Until I found them I was seriously stressed out about what to do for daycare for my puppy. I spoke to Brandon on the phone and he instantly put me at ease. I took my puppy in to check things out and ended up leaving him there to play for a few hours. I love that they have an actual outside area for the dogs to go out and play in. And most of all - my puppy comes home exhausted after playing with his friends all day! Thank you Backyard Dog Care for always taking great care of my puppy.
