I also took my sweet boy Rusty here for ICU care after my Cedar Rapids vet removed an 11 lb mass with his spleen! My vet's office felt he needed overnight monitoring for complications after surgery, so I transported him there for that. Although my boy did not survive, I was extremely happy with the care he received there. They were in constant contact with me, and answered all of my questions. Their ICU unit is set up very well, keeping staff literally in the room with the patient. I was called even in the middle of the night when complications arose, was made to feel very welcome about visiting, and when my Rusty passed away, their compassion was extremely helpful. They actually performed CPR until we could get there to let our boy go. They placed my husband and I in a private room with him, and spent as much time with us as we needed. We never felt rushed or bothered. They were kind enough let us talk and share stories about our Rusty with them, and that actually helped me more than I can say. Their prices I have found to be much more reasonable than another emergency after hours veterinary office I have gone to that is much closer to my home, but their quality of care and compassion are much greater. I highly recommend!!! 7/19/18...Somehow the above review never was completed to get posted. Well we are here again this evening with our 7 year old boxer Zella who has had bleeding from her mouth. The service here is outstanding, from the front desk staff, to the technicians, to the amazing veterinarians themselves...even in the midst of this pandemic. I am so very appreciative to their staff for finding safe ways to continue to take care of our beloved pets. As I said before...I highly recommend!!!

Dr Kim and her entire staff are so friendly and helpful, wonderful to work with. You can tell everyone working there truly loves animals and enjoys their job. Most recently one of our older dogs had a growth on his eye that we were worried would need surgery and would likely be pretty expensive. He did end up needing surgery, but the whole thing was less than $400, and that included teeth cleaning that we added in since he was already going to be under anesthesia. This dog has a lot of nervous energy and squeaks a lot when he is anywhere new. The vet staff didn't bat an eye at his quirky behavior and took wonderful care of him during & after surgery. When picking him up after surgery my wife was along with our toddler and the receptionist seeing that my wife had her hands full helped walk our dog out to the car and got him situated to go home. Wonderful staff, knowledgeable caring vet, can't say enough great things.

Not only is it traumatic for the animal, but I'm being asked to pay for services I have no idea if they're being done or not. Sitting in a parking lot while it's 90 degrees out yet there's only 2-3 other individuals in the entire building. Customers have no way to express concerns nor communicate with the veterinarian in practice here. There are so many ways this business could attempt to open to humans if they actually cared to and it definitely comes across as lazy. If I wasn't taking my pet here since her birth I would be making a change.

They called and went to get pet. Spoke with me vaguely about what was going on, gave me meds for pet, although they were not sure, they said it would be fine. The BILL WAS OVER $800! I gave them the $300 I had and said they would have to wait for the rest. $200 to $820?! Got home and went over the bill with my hubby. Next day went back to discuss some big ? on bill as it was like someone had just added extras in that did not pertain especially since I had turned down the really expensive test but was still billed for it?! When I got there they said it would be a minute so I sat down. A woman came in to get her pet who had just been given a rabies shot. They quoted her $85-95 and the bill was almost double that. She explained she did not have money to pay anymore than $100 that day. They would not let her leave with her pet. She was calling friends, family, etc who were working. They had no empathy whatsoever. I told her they did the same to me the day before and gave her the rest of the money so she could go home with her pet. She owed them less than I but was a POC. I then spoke with the office manager instead of the girl at the reception area. Turned out that they had given me a quote that included all options and not my bill. My bill was STILL DOUBLED but had already decided to go elsewhere as 2 strangers in office with doubled bill amounts?! So I paid off my bill and left. Had I not questioned my bill iI would have paid $400 extra for services NOT rendered. And now my pet LOATHES the vets office. It seems like he was traumatized somehow. Anyway, just be careful you are not overcharged, plan on paying double their quote, and stay with your pet. Think they know they are only vet in town so are bill bullys?! Do not recommend!

We've had a few hiccups with Animal Clinic. (For instance, our puppy Boston Terrier had multiple…read morevaccines given to her at the same time which resulted in an allergic reaction...) But overall, in the past nearly five years, we have very much liked our experience at Animal Clinic. The front desk staff is uber friendly, the location is convenient, online scheduling is slick, services are prompt/professional but mostly-- we just adore Dr Zhang. I can't say I was in love with Animal Clinic or felt I had 'A doctor' until she came along. She listens, she will admit when she doesn't know-- but will look fiercely until she knows a probable answer. She shows compassion and love every single visit. We adopted a Great Dane, Marvin, a few years ago. Generally, Marv has been without health problems. Beside a huge benign cyst that grew out of his paw-- looking like a sixth toe. This required surgery and had a few post op/healing complications, as well. (Getting a large dog to stay still and not pop a stitch proved difficult.) The Animal Clinic staff got to be on a first name basis with him. He adores coming in and it is because of the care Dr Zhang and Company provide.

They will scare you by telling you your cat could have kitty AIDS, herpes, and leukemia in order to turn a quick profit. This may sound absolutely ridiculous, but it is 100% the truth! I brought my kitten into this clinic for the first time last week for a general check up. After the vet (William Gay) pointed out that my cat's eyes have some slight redness, he prescribed me eyedrops. He told me my cat could have AIDS, as well as the other diseases listed above, and made me feel obligated to purchase the drops. This is not an exaggeration. However, the same exact drops (Neo-Poly-Dex Opth solution; confirmed by Mr. Gay) that I was charged $63 for by the clinic are available in MULTIPLE online retailers and stores nearby for only $12. I came back into the clinic to raise these concerns and was treated extremely rudely by William. I also spoke to the clinic's manager, who I believe was named Jannette. She was much more respectful, but had no explanation for the disgusting dishonest pricing and fear mongering of the staff. I was told "our supplier charges us much more than that" and when I asked "why don't you order from Petco, chewy, ETC then?" they said "they cannot supply our quantities". This is a lie because I was told they only sell a few every month, and several of those suppliers sell in quantities of 20+. If you are going to charge over $50 extra for an identical product, at least be honest and upfront about it! I gave these people several opportunities to right their wrongs. I said "as a business, I understand you guys need to make a profit, but if you can make this right for me by meeting in the middle somewhere, I promise I will be a returning customer". Instead, I was promptly dismissed and lied to. DO NOT COME HERE. YOU WILL BE LIED TO AND OVER CHARGED.

My kitty is a stress case and is so scared when we go to the vet that I can actually carry him in…read morebecause he clings to me and isn't remotely contemplating fleeing. I brought him in for digestive issues and Dr. Hayes seems to have a magic touch because my cat was pretty calm and stayed on the exam table, whereas he hides at other clinics. Part of this is due to the dog-free, quiet environment, I'm sure. One thing I truly appreciate about the Cat Clinic compared to a couple of the other well known clinics in town is that Dr. Hayes doesn't pressure me to spend a lot of money or throw surprise upcharges at me for no reason. Don't get me wrong, I would go into serious debt for my cats, but would rather not if I don't have to! For example, when my other cat was vomiting, I took him to another Iowa City clinic and, without explaining the costs or purpose, they ran $600 in tests. My cat was actually better the next morning with ZERO treatment. By contrast, Dr Hayes started with simple steps to rule out food allergies and a couple other holistic causes instead of performing every imaginable test. He also talked through a few possibilities to consider. He also recently performed surgery on another cat I look after and it was very easy and affordable and the elderly kitty did great. He's very kind and straightforward and his office is great at following up to see how the patient is doing.
