Everything was a great visit. My dog went to check for his eye and they were able to care for him and sympathize with us as well.

My 13.6 month old fur baby (yes he is my baby) was referred here by the emergency vet (Mar Queen) when he couldn't open his right eye, kept whimpering, was low energy and lethargic and had a head tilt. I didn't know I was blessed to have a specialist so close to us. They were able to squeeze us in fairly quickly. Once in, the staff and the doctor were all so amazing and kind. Dr. Calvarese is an awesome vet and very capable. She told us Shibas are very prone to glaucomas and started us on a regiment to see if conservative methods would help his affected eye. A couple of days later my baby was acting like himself again. His eye is still cloudy, but he has a pressure check tomorrow. We will probably have to get his eyes pressure checked often since he does have glaucoma. Due to the high degree of quality care from here, we were able to help my dog get comfortable and be pain free. Dr. Calvarese even wrote a prescription to get three bottles of his meds and told us where to go to help lower the costs, and I thought that was pretty thoughtful of her. Anyone with pets who have eye conditions, come here. This doctor also treated my MIL's pug and performed his surgery and she had nothing but good things to say as well. read more

I had a great experience! My dog was referred to see an eye specialist, but when I called the place that the vet referred me to, the soonest appointment was going to be a month later. My vet expressed urgency for my dog to get her eye checked by specialist so in doing my research, I stumbled across veterinary eye Institute. They had availability that worked with my schedule and did not require me to wait weeks to be seen. I was greeted by the staff upon arriving. My dog was weighed quickly and we got in the room shortly after. Once in the room, I expected to wait a while before my dog was seen, but I did not wait that long. Mind you, I saw other patients going in for their appointment as well, so I anticipated that it would take a while. My dog was seen so quickly and they were able to make a recommendation right then and there as well as perform the procedure that same day. They took really good care of my dog and I was just so pleasantly surprised at how great this experience was. The employees here were so welcoming to us humans.... And our pets. Every single employee treated our dog with love. It really warmed my heart to be at a place that gave so much love to each pet. Excellent care for our Cane Corso that has extreme dry eye. They helped us through a very scary situation and in the end he did not require surgery. They showed me how to go about putting the ointment in his eye as with the liquid drops he would squint so tight I had to have help. They showed me how to manipulate him so I could put the ointment in and even on my own. Drogo is 95 lbs so if he doesn't want it done it's a real hassle. I was able for the last month to put on my own ointment in his eye 2 times a day. I am so thankful for this help. The best part is he will not require surgery. He will require lifetime eye hydration, so very thankful to every employee we can in contact with that made us feel welcome and without a doubt how much they cared. Thank you! read more

Rather than wait over a month for the one ophthalmologist in the Coachella Valley I chose to drive to Upland for a consult on a Thursday. They squeezed my cat in the following day. The back-and-forth 2+ hour drive each way (times 6!!!) in a 48-hour time period was so well worth it. A successful lower bleph to remove an entropic eye lid is 9 days post surgery and looking terrific. Post op visit in another week or so. Follow-up with calls has been great too. I cannot explain how satisfied I am after going to other veterinarian offices for my blind and deaf Great Dane , who had a severe eczema around her eyes where they were closing shut from a rash like constantly itching, very uncomfortable and being given different creams to heal it and spending so much money and then finally hearing about Upland Eye Institute were in less than two weeks. We brought our Chihuahua Velvet here back in late June for a first appointment due to sudden blindness. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by staff and so was our dog Velvet! They were very friendly and we were able to walk right into a room with no wait. All of us were very nervous including Velvet from being in a new environment but we felt very welcomed here and really appreciated how the doctor took the time to explain about Velvet's condition and asked questions. Unfortunately there wasn't much that could be done since Velvet was diagnosed with SARDS that day but we still love and appreciate how we were given options on extra testing. Our 9 month old pup injured his eye at a board and train. We saw our general vet in which they prescribed an antibacterial eye drops. This provided some relief, but did not heal it. Amazing experience. Went here because my dog's regular vet scared me into thinking that my dog has glaucoma. They doubled checked here and told me my dog is very healthy just allergies so I need to go to a dermatologist. Came here after taking my dog to the emergency. His left eye was closed, his head was tilted and he had no energy . The emergency gave eye infection eye drops for his eye and recommended to see a Vet Ophthalmologist! I had no idea such a thing existed! Long story short I came here worried they were going to push surgery as the only option. Low behold, they were super patient, and caring at this place. They gave my pirate Shiba Inu who's 13.5 years old a extremely thorough exam. He was diagnosed with glaucoma. They gave me 2 more different type of eye drops and said use these for a week and come back for a eye pressure test to see if the pressure in his glaucoma eye goes down. Day 2 of the eye drops he went from low energy to semi normal. Day 3 a miracle. His eye was open and he was acting like his crazy Shiba Inu self! This place is awesome and highly recommended. I drive about an hour and 45 mins, just to take my English bull dog to get treated for his cornea ulcers. He has had two and each time I have taken him back here to get treated. The staff and vets are amazing, they're so helpful and attentive to your needs. 10/10 recommend. I also like how they let you go back with your pet. read more

This review has been long overdue. Dr. Sara Calvarese and her team are just beyond amazing. From the front desk staff, Ariana to her technician (Molly's favorite is Rebecca). We have been going to them for more than 5 years and we are not going anywhere. They have always gone above and beyond to service Molly, our senior golden retriever who has been diagnosed with GRPU and glaucoma for years now. Dr. Calvarese has done numerous procedures on both of her eyes. Our girl is completely blind now (she's able to keep both eyes), but she is no longer in pain. One of the things that stood out was when we had to rush Molly to the emergency vet because we thought she had a stroke and come to find out it was her glaucoma on her left eye. We waited for more than four hours at the ER and come to find out that they had to refer us back to Dr. Calvarese. Dr. Calvarese was able to take us in first thing in the morning straight from the ER and did the procedure on Molly in between her crazy schedule. I called with what our dog's veterinarian described as a serious corneal laceration which he considered an emergency. He felt there was risk of a rupture of the globe, the eye itself. I described to. the receptionist the degree of injury and the risk of rupture of the eye. I asked nicely for an appointment ASAP. I was told that they could not accommodate us, despite this serious risk, for over FOUR WEEKS. I am a practicing pediatrician and if one of my patient's parents called with a concern about a corneal abrasion or laceration I would have told them to come in right then. Was referred here by our vet for an emergency visit back in January 2021 for melting cornea. We were seen same day. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable letting them take our baby in without us due to Covid. Dr. Calvarese came out and spoke to us personally and explained the course of treatment. My regular vet recommended I go see an ophthalmologist for my dog immediately and they referred me another ophthalmologist, but after checking reviews around me, VOC seemed like the best choice. I called and tried to set up an appointment and they gave me something about 10 days out but after I explained to them the symptoms of my dog they gave me an appointment for the same day. Everyone was super nice I was greeted well and put in an examination room immediately. The tech came in and explained all the tests she did and was very gentle with my dog.
