My dog had scratched open a previous wound that was pretty deep on Sunday morning. I called ahead to see wait time and they said they have an opening for 10:30am. We got there at 10:33am and the ladies up front were very nice. We had to wait an hour before going back to a room but they did take our dog back to get a set of vitals while we were waiting. Once we went back to the room we waited another 30 mins before a vet tech came and took our dog back. All the staff were very friendly. Dr. Robertson is who treated our dog and he came in and discussed options, plans, and his recommendations. He was super nice and knowledgeable and I felt like gave us his undivided attention. Didn't feel rushed at all. The vet techs were so good with her too. She got a fun easter themed dressing. Besides the wait time, I was pleased with her care and the staff!! read more

last night I brought my sweet Mufassa there and I paid over $400 for services from where they said he had ear mites when I've never saw him digging. I couldn't even stand up and I new something else had to be wrong besides that. today my cat died in my arms and I paid that money when I new something else was wrong he was limp and couldn't even stand up. I'm so sad and I called to tell them he died today and I got told "I'm sorry I'll put it in your chart" like I'm so upset about my cat dying and paying that money like not even close to 24 hours ago and that was the response. read more

They were patient with me, and a found kitten. They explained things in detail, and future state, and even asked to be kept updated on her condition. People fuss about the cost, but considering everything they had to do, it was worth it. Even for an abandoned feral kitten too scrappy to give up. 100% recommend for emergency care! We brought our sweet dog to Verona as the emergency vet in Charlottesville had an over 4 hr wait. He had broken his talus (heel bone). The staff came to the door when we arrived and were very sweet with Bubba and asked if they could give him pain meds right away. They quickly diagnosed what was going on and had a care plan. Dr. Robertson was fantastic. They pretty quickly put a splint on it and described what we needed to do next. The staff were professional and very pleasant. We were back home before we would have been seen in Charlottesville. Cannot recommend them more highly. read more

We took our very sick kitty. We were seen immediately and Dr. Stauffer did a thorough physical exam, including bloodwork and X-rays. Unfortunately our kitty had end stage renal failure and Dr. Stauffer highly recommended euthanasia. It was our kindness to a life well lived. We called at 5 pm to ask if we could bring our cat in anytime that night. Our cat has an infected site where she got spayed. They said to bring her in at 8 pm, so we got there at 8. It took an hour and a half to get into a room. Then we sat in the room for another hour without being seen. They kept telling us that someone would be in soon, but no one ever came. All we needed was a cone or some antibiotics or some pain meds and I'm sure the vet would only need 5 mins to know that. We said as we were walking out that we needed to leave, and they said all cheery "ok bye!" The best part was that as we were waiting in the lobby, 3 vet techs, and 2 office people were gossiping for a good 15 mins about another coworker and their problem with alcohol. It was incredibly unprofessional to do that in front of us while we waited for our sick cat to be seen. Never returning here again. Worst vet experience of our life. Save yourself the time and go somewhere else. read more

I took my dog here when she was in renal failure. They got us in quickly and were very kind.

My family travelled out of town for vacation and this was the only emergency vet for miles that was open at 2am. As soon as we walked in, the energy there was amazing, it felt cozy, which is especially important when your anxiety is through the roof for your furry friend. They have a keurig, refreshments, and snacks to help take your mind off of your poor fur baby. My puppy had gotten into a big piece of chocolate cake and needed immediate care to get it out of her system. They were very tentative and got to work fairly quickly. The doctor was very informative and let us know every procedure/step they were doing to our sweet puppy. I am so glad this amazing vet was open to tend to our puppy and will definitely recommend this vet for your emergency needs. read more

They traumatized our cat. Our cat was taken in for frequent vomiting, pain, bloody urine and frantic behavior. It was likely to be a UTI or kidney stones, since she was having trouble urinating. We would've gone to our normal vet, but it was 3AM and our cat was in serious pain. The appointment we could take was at 5AM, so we showed up at 4:55, we fill out the paper work and we are sent back 20 minutes later. In the exam room we wait an hour to be seen. Once someone comes in they ask about her symptoms then scruff her to yank her out of the crate to take her to the back room to be examined. Up until now our cat has been ok, she does very well at our normal vet and with other people. She has NEVER hissed, growled, or cried. She is sweet with everyone, this is important. The vet comes in to let us know that she needs fluids, an antibiotic, pain meds, and a topical. We are quoted $379, and we say ok. Then once the vet goes back, we hear our cat growling and WAILING at the top of her lungs as a dog is barking. We are mortified as this has never been her behavior. The vet comes in and we ask what is going on and why is she screaming, we are told "she's just a bit cranky because the fluids are cold and it's 200ml, so it's different from a normal vaccine". We try to bite our tongues here and just hope that that's the case. We get our cat back and we went home. Since she has been home she has been skittish, not expressive, barely eats or drinks, and she will not leave our kitchen. She is a completely different cat and it most likely isn't due to the pain meds since it's been over 48 hours. This is a cat that handles new situations extremely well so this is completely out of line. While she got the meds (I guess, since we couldn't see her!!), that doesn't make up for the rest of this. We won't be returning. read more

This is the WORST place I have ever taken my dog. He was attacked by something very large out in our woods in the country on our farm. I was estatic. My friend drove us to this place in Verona. They did absolutely NOTHING to except take my standard poodle who was bring very brave and not crying as I was doing....and put him in a dog kennel leaving him to suffer without cleaning the 18 inch very deep gash that rapped almost all the way around his midsection. No cleaning the wound , no pain ,medicine, and try to tell me his stomach was probably twisted and I should just put his down. I refused to hear anyone of this nonsense asked to have my poodle back so we could wait for his normal vet to open in 3 hours. They charged me $980 . For doing nothing to help him ! And would not give go me until I paid . They were charging per hour after and all kinds of other charges that were unexplainable. They almost let my poor poodle die. After locking him away where I could not see him until I paid in full and the meter was running. He started to scream and they refused to let me even calm him before I had to leave. I had to barrow that much money from 3 different people. Leaving me with no money to pay the vet that was going to help him at Claire park. If anyone goes to this so called vet that's because you want to put your loved pet down for a only. The truly are the worst I have ever experienced . Sorry about the long review but do not support these people that have no love or kindness to animals . Stay away if you can! My cat came home late one night, very sick. After arriving at Verona he had to wait 3 hours for them to even look at him even though he was obviously in a lot of pain and distress and there were only 2 animals before us. When he was seen it only took about 5 minutes to look at him and draw blood. After waiting another 30 mins an unfriendly vet said she didn't know what was wrong, gave him pain meds and charged me $450. Since he was still scary-sick I took him to his vet the next day. He was so sick they said he might not make it. After lots of tests, appropriate meds, and a lot of supervision he pulled through. The bill was $250. Everyone I know who has gone here has a similar story. VERY expensive and the vet seems to not care at all. And another bad experience there tonight. My friend's cat was bloated and in pain and Verona was the only option. He was told the cat needed a $1400 surgery immediately or it probably wouldn't make it. My friend called me worried about the cat and upset by the abrupt way he was spoken too. He asked if I could help pay so his cat wouldn't be down. It's a lot of money so I called the vet to see if there were any non-essential costs that could be left for the next day at his normal vet. She was abrupt and snippy with me too. She made no attempt to hide that she was annoyed by the question. Is it that unusual to want to save an animal but not have an extra 1,400? I hung up angry, once again swearing that I will never go there again if I can help it. read more

Such an amazing place! Literally open 24/7! Very kind doctors, super nice staff. Very sanitary, and cheaper than most emergency services! While waiting in your furry friend you can enjoy a Kurig coffee or tea, which is quite nice when worrying about your other half. No appointment needed either. read more

I took my 12 year old cat there after he collapsed at my feet. I asked them to help him and all they were worried about is me signing consent. I live 5 minutes down the road and believe that they knew the whole time they could not do anything for him. They waited for me to sign papers then took him back. They then came out to ask me if I wanted them to try to recessitate him. I said yes and they left for about 3 minutes and came back to tell me he had died. Long story short this place is a rip-off and only cares about money. Im positive they have helped some pets but Im just as positive they knew mine was dead from the beginning. My cat was limp and not breathing but it was still important to wait for paperwork. I paid $275.00 for them to tell me my cat was dead 15 minutes after entering. read more

I don't typically write reviews unless they are positive. However I took my cat here, they recommended me to purchase the critical care which was $850.00. They told me it was just a deposit thing and they would likely be able to help without using the whole 850. They said they were going to give my girl a catheter, and help stabilize her. Well 15 minutes later they put me in a room and say my cat is very sick and needs to be put down. No catheter in her to try to help her, nothing. As if this wasn't enough they then say they need another 200 and some odd dollars from me to do this and I wouldn't be refunded anything out of the $850.00. All they cared about was getting my money, they were cold, acted like they didn't care, and all I kept hearing was while me and my mom are crying our eyes out is "we need you to sign here and to pay the remaining balance". I get it they have a job to do but seriously? Over $1000 for 25 minutes of care for them to tell me that my cat isn't going to make it. That unless I paid another $200+ they'd make me take my lifeless babygirl with me. They are simply all about the money, they knew from the start they wouldn't be able to help my baby but convinced me that the critical care package would be the first steps to stabilizing her. They didn't even help my cat but they took all my money I was saving up. Over $1000 might not sound like a lot to most people but I worked hard for that money, I was trying to start saving, I'd give it up all for my baby though and they took advantage of that. I took my beloved pup Merlin here just yesterday (10/31/22). I was an idiot and left chewed gum, along with some fries, on a plate on my bedside table and thought nothing of it. I walked out to the living room and by the time I remembered I'd left it there, it was too late. I ran back into my room to see Mer licking the plate clean. I initially didn't panic, I thought he'd just throw it up or pass it. How wrong I was. My brother felt like something worse could happen so he gave it a google. Thank god he did. There is an ingredient in basically all chewing gum that is lethal to dogs. I called every vet around me and no one had openings for my sweet boy. Finally, a lady at one of the dozen offices I called directed me here. My husband and I rushed our baby boy straight there. I was beside myself, but the staff handled everything with a calm demeanor and patience. Within an hour of him eating the gum, they had induced vomiting, checked his blood sugar, and had a treatment plan at the ready. They held him for 8 hours for monitoring and I was able to pick him up that night. If my brother hadn't looked into it and if these people hadn't acted so quickly, the odds I would've lost my best friend (and therapy dog) are beyond high. I am so great-full to be only 40 minutes away from this emergency vet. I pray Mer doesn't do anything like this again, but I know exactly who I will go to if he does. read more

I rushed my cat to this clinic late one Friday night, after i arrived home from work and found her crying in pain and her rear legs were paralyzed. They took her back immediately and informed me they needed to give her pain medication, which i was so thankful for. I met with Dr. Comer and she could not have been more fantastic! She was so informative and explained that my cat had suffered a "saddle embolus" (a blood clot) and that it was very serious and extremely painful for my kitty. She explained the treatment options, with anesthesia being one option due to her inability to regain function in her rear legs. I learned that this type of blood clot is related to underlying heart disease and is fairly common in cats. I found Dr. Comer to be professional, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. The entire staff treated me with kindness, compassion and sensitivity. There were several other pet emergencies that night and they treated every patient (human and animal) with utmost care! The bill was rather expensive, but on par with what my vet would have chosen. I will not hesitate to go there again in an emergency!!! read more

I went to Veterinary Emergency Services yesterday as my dog was bitten at the dog park. I was reluctant to go and thought my dog would be generally fine but went anyway just to make sure. The bite didn't seem too bad and the Veterinarian acknowledged that, however they said they have a standard treatment plan for bites like this and gave me an invoice of approximately $500 for suturing, collar, sedation etc. I was taken aback by it because the bite didn't seem that bad so I refused the treatment. I then took my dog into my regular veterinarian this morning, and he checked her out and said that the wound would heal up perfectly by itself and prescribed some anti-biotics, costing me in total approximately $100. There is no way in hell that I'll ever take my dog to Veterinary Emergency Services unless she is dying and there is no other option. I will never trust a veterinarian that will do unnecessary and risky surgeries just to make a profit. read more
