I was in Harrisonburg for work when my service dog unexpectedly ran very low on his prescription…read moregastrointestinal food. I had the valid prescription from our regular veterinarian, who was even willing to speak directly with the veterinarian at Massanutten to verify both the prescription and my dog's medical history. Despite that, the clinic refused to sell the prescription food unless they first examined my service dog and charged me for an office visit. This was not a request for a diagnosis or treatment--only to purchase the exact prescription diet that had already been prescribed by his veterinarian. I understand that veterinary clinics have policies and professional responsibilities, but I was disappointed by the complete lack of flexibility or compassion in a situation involving a traveling service dog with documented gastrointestinal issues. My veterinarian made every effort to verify the prescription, yet no accommodation was offered. Because of this experience, I cannot recommend this clinic. I believe they missed an opportunity to put the well-being of a service animal first, and I left feeling that helping my dog was secondary to generating an office visit. I hope they will reconsider how they handle similar situations in the future so that other traveling pet owners--especially those with service animals and established veterinary care--receive a more compassionate response.

They also offer vaccines that my last Shih Tzu was never offered (at another vet) which may have saved his life. (My Sam dies at 5.) Theodore is now a whopping 9 months old. He has had ALL his shots and extras to keep him fully protected. I love him and I want him to have a full, happy, and healthy life. My kids just love him to peace. Most importantly he loves us. I am very pleased with the way my dog is treated with them. I started going to this vet office before Dr. Terry retired, who I thought was an amazing vet. Dr. Maureen has done a really great job in taking over the practice. My pup saw her a lot before Terry left, and now we've seen more of Dr. Michelle. They do what my pup needs and are very pet oriented. I've never felt uncomfortable or off when they take my pup back for tests. I noticed a negative review in regard to wait time, however, the wait time is typically MUCH less wait time than my own health appointments, but there are occasions where it's right on time. Perhaps because they are so thorough appointments take more sometimes. I don't mind a little wait if I know I'm getting quality service at a fair price. I think the same reviewer complained about price too, but it's half what I'd pay in NVa with everything else being commensurate. Also, I boarded my dog here one time and he seemed happy when I picked him up. Good sign. (I hate boarding my "loneliness therapy dog.")

Because I work in healthcare, I joked that we wait until something is wrong to treat and she withdrew as not understanding the joke and proceeded to berate me on my pet parenting of my beautiful and healthy dogs. Having multiple dogs live well into old age and working as a healthcare professional myself, I will never understand this type of clinician behavior. My dogs are fine and just because I refuse to subscribe to your overpriced procedures in a lackluster clinic in which front desk staff are lethargic and seemingly tired of their mistreatment as well (no one could even change the printer to print on once side), it all makes sense. There are plenty of other great alternatives in the area -- priced well and offering empathetic care to pets and owners alike. I will be pursuing new care for my pets immediately.
