Have gone from Cleveland Ohio to Islamorada in the past. Anyway to make a long story short I pass by this veterinary office almost every day and after setting my gps to the keys decided to stop in...... it is a neat clean facility which is a definite plus. People are caring but the proof is in the doctors.... issue was diagnosed quickly and professionally ...... I was impressed and brought my second dog in the same day so they could start a record on him. Now I have my Georgia vet and my keys vet. Welllll got to say they are the best. My Shepard developed a huge cyst that I noticed at 4:00. This cyst was huge, had come to a head and was bleeding. I called them at 4 pm expecting to be told it was late and call tomorrow..... how wrong I was. They said come in as fast as you can. She was examined and the cyst was excised within the hour..... the doctor said he felt draining the cyst would be painful to the dog and suggested a twilight sleep. The whole thing from start to finish took an hour. Three days later all swelling is gone, her skin is normal in color and my dog and I are both happy. Can't say enough good things about this animal hospital......... THEY ARE THE BEST

After two years of saving, we finally planned a short vacation out of state. Since our vet does not offer boarding, I contacted Golden Isles Animal Hospital to arrange a 4 night stay for my diabetic cat. She had been stable for almost a year with oral medication and a closely monitored diet, especially her water intake, which is significant due to her condition. I made sure to explain this clearly: she needs her water bowl refilled frequently and medication administered once daily. That's it. She's super easy, just keep an eye on the water bowl. I even left these instructions in her medicine bag stating exactly this. Because of her condition, I was told she'd need to come in for a "trial day," before the boarding, to ensure everything would go smoothly. She did very well, and the assistants praised her for how sweet, bubbly and easy she is. After that trial, she came home, sat by her water bowl, and drank water nonstop for 15 minutes. In hindsight, this is more concerning than it felt at the time. I trusted that this animal hospital would, at the very least, keep a diabetic cat hydrated and comfortable. So surely this must be stress related.. right? I brought up her water intake again at the time of her boarding, and they assured me that someone would "always be with her." I now understand that "someone in the building" may not mean someone qualified, or attentive enough, to actually monitor her needs. On the morning we were scheduled to pick her up, we received a call at 7am asking us to come immediately. She had been found lying on her side in her litter box, lethargic, dehydrated, could not walk without falling, and vocalizing in distress. As soon as we arrived, I asked if the vet or a tech could assist. I was told by your staff that no tech or vet had been on duty over the weekend, and wouldn't be that day either. The person who handed her over said she'd been fine for the first couple of days, but by day 3 had become slightly lethargic, so they gave her corn syrup. We asked if her blood sugar was checked before that, to ensure it was low blood sugar causing the lethargy, but the answer was no. It was given to her blindly. If this lethargy was that concerning, to the point of giving her corn syrup without checking her blood sugar, then why wasn't I called and informed of it at the very least? I would have come home immediately to get her and take her to her vet. There were no clear records of what had happened over the weekend from your staff. Evidently, they had been rotated, and the person speaking to us admitted they weren't there for two of the four days, so they weren't entirely sure what happened. We were handed a brochure for an emergency clinic and told to take her there, as they had no one to help her. We then took her over to her vet, who did some quick tests and found her very dehydrated with high blood sugar, cold and stressed, and urged us to take her to the emergency clinic immediately, so we did. She was admitted and cared for, but her condition continued to worsen. She passed away the very next day. I am absolutely devastated. It is heartbreaking to think that a stay intended to be safe and routine ended this way. I will always question what happened during those days when we weren't with her, and if any of it could have been prevented, had they called me at the first red flag.. If only I could give 0 stars. Thanks for literally nothing.

We made the hour drive to Fernandina because we were told this was the best option for emergency care. Our bird was screaming in distress and clearly appeared to be in significant pain. When we arrived, they took her immediately, placed her in her small carrier inside an oxygen tank, and left her there. She continued screaming. We waited two hours before speaking with anyone. We were told she was "doing better" and had stopped screaming. I asked to see her, and when we were brought to the back, we could immediately hear her still screaming. When I got to her cage, she still appeared to be in pain. In total, she was screaming for a minimum of four hours without meaningful intervention beyond being placed in oxygen. We were told they would perform bloodwork and X-rays the next day. The following day, we were told bloodwork had not been done because she became agitated, which is understandable--but there was no communication about trying again later. Later, we were told X-rays were done and that bloodwork had also been completed. After 2.5 days, we were told she was doing much better and ready to go home on medication. While driving an hour and a half from Jacksonville to pick her up, I received a call saying there was now a new treatment plan that would cost an additional $1,000-$1,500 (bringing the total to around $3,000), and that she would need to stay longer--despite just being told she was ready to go home. When I asked about the results of the bloodwork and X-rays, they still did not have answers. We chose to pick her up anyway. After getting home, I received only the X-ray images--there was no written report--and no bloodwork results were ever provided, despite being told it had been done. Overall, it felt like very little was actually done for her during the 2.5 days she was there beyond being placed in a cage and minimally handled. We still have no clear diagnosis or answers, and she is not acting like herself. The medication has left her very sedated, and now we will have to seek care elsewhere and incur additional costs. Looking back, I wish I had taken her somewhere else sooner. This was a stressful, expensive experience that did not provide the care, communication, or follow-through we expected.

After waiting 4hrs - summary - they did nothing except give my dog a medicine that caused an adverse reaction, which only made his medical condition WORSE. When she told me this-- she even said- some dogs have the opposite reaction we expect. What?!?!? Then why are you still prescribing it!!!!! The "doc" onsite (turns out just a vet assistant) was incompetent at best, her only mission seemed to be to bring in as much revenue as possible-vs diagnosis or treating my dog. Then the Coup de grâce--- after telling me the medicine she gave my dog to help perform a required test didn't sedate him- it made him hyper- so they couldn't perform the test....... They hand me a bill that not only has trumped up charges but far worse----- says I "declined" the test!!!!! The INCOMPETENCE at this office is insurmountable and unfathomable. At the time of this post I still do not know if my dog will be ok- thanks to them. We still have 2more hours before the effect of their idiocy wears off (according to them), only to wait and determine safety of ORIGINAL issue.
