My husband and I have incredible appreciation and respect for Dr. Derr. My dog is a large male Great Dane who, at the time, was 1-year-old and just neutered when our vet referred us to Dr. Derr. Our dog was attacked at parks as a baby and was beginning to develop severe anxiety around other dogs in our neighborhood. We were worried that the anxiety would eventually transfer to humans and that we would ultimately have to put him down. Dr. Derr visited us at our home, met our dog, and discussed/practiced training strategies with us. After the appointment, she provided us with documentation that we could refer to in the future. She also gave us a "prognosis," an idea of when the training would start showing up in our dog's behavior, and good realistic expectations. At the time, Dr. Derr had a policy where we could follow up with her for free within 6 months of our initial visit. Within that time frame, my husband and I moved across the country, which affected our dog's behavior. We reached out to her again and received additional advice as well as medication for our dog. While our dog isn't "cured" -- he still suffers anxiety -- we now know how to manage our dog's behavior and reduce his reactivity around dogs and other stimuli. I strongly encourage anyone worried about their pet to reach out to Dr. Derr the earlier, the better. read more
