As a new gun owner (I recently purchased my first handgun for home defense), I want to make sure I'm as responsible and skilled as possible in the case I need to step up to protect the people I love. I did a few days' worth of research on classes and instructors in my area and eventually decided Veterans Training Group was the best around. They offer an ample selection of classes for new gun owners like me and more advanced shooters. I enrolled in their NRA Basic Pistol course on a date that best fit my schedule. I was able to hop onto a Zoom meeting with Steven Hung shortly after I got off work and he took the time to get to know what I was looking to get from the course, what made me decide to become a gun owner, and he tailored the content to emphasize certain things that were relevant to my situation. Steven answered all the questions I had going in and all the new questions I had as we covered the materials. At the end our call, we agreed to meet at the La Puente Firing Range for the live fire portion of the course. I got the opportunity to apply the concepts from the course with my own gun. I'd been to a firing range 3 times before without any training or guidance beyond random YouTube videos I'd found and just "doing what felt right." Up until then, my untrained results had been "OK" but nothing special. This time, with Steven's instruction, guidance, and tips, I saw my accuracy improve DRAMATICALLY in just a few magazines' worth of shots and started understanding the fundamentals of shooting. I walked away from that live fire session ready to hit the range again ASAP to practice and hone the skills Steven taught me that evening. I look forward sharpening my skills as a new shooter and highly recommend Veterans Training Group to anyone who wants to develop their shooting skills. I can't express how much I enjoyed taking Steven's class. As a current peace officer, we lack training and firearm tactics. This is something that is not prioritized, although it should be. I've been through many trainings, which could be very repetitive with the same basic fundamentals. Although we trained as a group, Steven and his instructors took the time to focus on teaching us individually on skills that we wanted/needed to improve on. I had open ears and was eager to learn every advice given that day. Steven has 20+ years of knowledge on shooting and tactics. Took a fresh beginner class with Steven, and he was flexible enough to cater the entire 4 hour session to my personal goals. I booked a time that was in the middle of the day on a Wednesday due to my hectic work schedule, and he had no problems working around it at all. Very personalized experience discussing everything from basic safety, fundamentals, and storage that can be more practically applied to each individual's different needs. I took a Pistol Fundamentals class and Basic Carbine carbine class with Steven Hung as the instructor at Veteran's Training group. I'm happy I took my first training class here because the content is perfect for a total beginner, as well as someone who already knows the basics. Worked with Steven over the weekend on pistol training. First class ever. Steven was thorough and patient. The first part of the class was basic firearms knowledge, from history of guns to how firearms have evolved over the many decades. The classroom part of the course also goes into the very components that make up a gun, to important safety elements to look out for and of course perhaps the most vital part of the lesson -- how to grip, aim and hold your body with the pistol. I came away with both a better understanding of how a pistol works and really great tips if I decide ever to own my own firearm. The second part of the training was spent at a shooting range, where I took what I learned in terms of shooting technique and safe firearms handling and applied it in a live ammunition setting. Again Steven was thorough and patient and the nerves I felt from handling a gun for the very first time dissipated quickly. After the lesson, Steven sent notes for me on things to work on on my own. My husband and I took the basic pistol class. We are new to handling guns so this class was perfect for us. Steven Hung is a great teacher / instructor and an expert in his field. We were very impressed with his knowledge, background and experience. He was very patient and took time to answer all of our questions. The class is set up perfectly with 2 hours class room training going through gun safety and basics of the different types of pistols, etc. and 2 hours of hands on shooting at a local shooting range. The combination of classroom and hands on shooting was so helpful. Just completed the basic pistol and firearm cleaning class. I can't say enough good things about this place. Steven was my instructor. I was lucky enough to take a class on a day when nobody else signed up. So I got one on one attention. It consisted of classroom time going over the basics and details of the gun itself , ammunition, aiming, safety, it was very good and and follow the NRA rules. Steven was very attentive to all of my questions. He is a war veteran from Afghanistan. This guy knows what he's talking about. He's been in combat. He has handled all kinds of various weapons. Very nice and personable. After the classroom portion we went to the gun range. We shot various targets a different distances, he gave constructive criticism, definitely made me feel comfortable and able to shoot somewhat decent for the first time in a long time with my new gun. After the gun range, we went back to the office and we did the firearms cleaning class and we disassembled, cleaned and oiled up the gun and it's ready to go for next time.
