Veteran's Park has lots of paved paths, is home to the kite store and tuk tuk bike rentals, has lots of greenspace and is now used for large events like Harley Fest, Redbull Flugtag, etc. There's one bathroom way by the Lake. It's always been a Lake, btw. There's a Lagoon, which is picturesque, be careful to not fish it in mid to late summer, as blue algae is toxic to you and your pets. This connector park from Lakeshore SP to all points along the Lake to the north is a-okay! read more

Veterans Park is a laid back peaceful place along Lake Michigan. Plenty of free parking and a nice trail along the lake that wraps around for a few miles. Fun watching all the sailboats sailing out of the harbor. Plenty of benches and picnic tables to bring the family or have a romantic lunch. It's so quiet here and there are never too many people. The park is kept up pretty well and they have bathroom facilities too. They have a little store where you can purchase beverages and light snacks too. read more

Came here for the water lantern festival. Paid $5 to park and got into the park around 6:30 pm. There were 7 food trucks and the lines were ridiculously long. The event organizers could have invited at least 5 more trucks since there were spaces. Can't locate a bathroom. read more

Super huge park with greenery all over and next to the lake as well. A great place to hand around or do a picnic. Morning and Evening walks would be a moment to cherish here. Very scenic and calming atmosphere. The only reason to reduce a star is that they didn't have any open public restrooms. They had one but it was closed with a notice that this season they keep closed. How can a season affect restroom opening hours? Clearly, they are short of staff for cleaning. read more

Beautiful park with sprawling lawns, the ocean (or lake, depends on your point of view hehe), paved walkways, sea gulls and ducks and geese and dogs, a kite store, benches and picnic tables... it is everything a good park should be. It's not a private, cozy, park with lots and lots of trees. It's rather very open and on those warm, sunny days, especially if on a weekend or holiday, it can get pretty crowded here. If you just want to pick a spot on the lawn and chill, it'll be fine. If you're trying to ride a bike through the paved roads, you'll get to practice some obstacle road training. You can also rent water sports stuff, or tandem bikes or bike/carriage for groups of 4-5. A little more private is the walk around the lagoon just off the side of the Lake. Not a rugged trail park for the adventurous, but a great place to come on a date - you could even wear a skirt and heels. And the lake is different every single day. Really a nice mix of nature or urban. read more

In the name of all the veterans who served is this park located off the shores of Lake Michigan. There's nothing like soaking up the scenery as you walk/jog on the path where you can get a glimpse of the gorgeous skyline of the city or the boats hanging along the bay. There's also picnic tables in the area making this a lovely spot for family/date time. Plus it's close to some of Milwaukee's favorite spots such as Colectivo or Bradford Beach. Usually when i work out of state, i get extra tired of just being in my room. Specially during the times where it's super nice out. I suit up, bust out the headphones and go our for a nice run. Whip out my Super Powerful Samsung Galaxy phone. Check out where i want to run to on Google Maps and out the door i go. About a good mile and a half down from my hotel is this park. It has great views of the lake. There are also Memorials and a Art Museum. Plus the park area is definitely well kept. Only downside is that there is only 1 public restroom for the whole park. Definitely a nice place to be. There's people enjoying themselves. Playing catch, ball or those car looking cycle things. I would definitely come running here again. Not much to say except that I have been here a couple of times and it's a very nice place to spend time with your family, friends, loved ones or just by yourself walking around, riding bicycles, doing water activities (boating, sailing, jet skiing, etc.); playing, sitting, napping in the park, or going for a run, etc. It's clean and offers scenic views. You can do a picnic like outing here, catch some breeze, play catch, etc. I love hanging out here and would go again whenever I would have the chance. read more

I love the we have Veteran's Park by the gorgeous lakefront. I like to go there for walking/running exercise, but it also has many other activities like renting things on wheels to ride around the park in, kite flying, and various other fests like Brewfest. The location is excellent near the art museum, Harbor House, Colectivo coffee shop, and the yacht club/McKinley Marina. Also, a bit further north is Bradford beach and Lake Front Bistro. Veteran's Park is an expansive park situated right along the lake. It's great for a multitude of reasons: 1) Tons of paved paths. Looking to get your urban, yet scenic walk on? Veteran's Park is your spot. Your walk could take you along the lakefront, around a little lagoon, by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and through large expanses of green flanked by shade trees. 2) The little lagoon is not only picturesque, but they offer paddle boat rentals. It would make for a darling date or a just plain delightful summer afternoon. We have paddle boards, which we've brought down here as well. I will say, the lagoon is a bit murky and so it's not my favorite spot to paddle board as I'm always a bit overly nervous that I'll fall in the dingy water. But paddle boats? I'm all in. 3) One of the paths you can walk on is a segment of the Oak Leaf Trail. So, of you're looking to go on a longer walk or bike ride than Veteran's Park can provide, you can definitely get on the Oak Leaf Trail from here and be on your lengthy way. 4) Expansive fields perfect for kite flying! And, since it's right by the lake, it's breezy. Perfect for a whimsical afternoon. Things to note: + There's only one set of bathrooms, which are situated on the lake side of the park. + If you're curious, it's roughly 1.3 miles around the lagoon. Beautiful views of the lake and city (depending which way you look), wonderful paved paths, and plenty of options for park fun. Get to it! read more

So we had this big plan to explore this park since it's right by Lake Michigan. Sit by one of the tables munch on some chips and have some drinks, take that opportunity to take some great pictures. Yes well, once we got off the car there was a little chill going on and a little wind. So much for sitting on that table, it was cold!! I didn't last long before I turned around and headed for the car. They do have a little stand where you can rent kites, they have a museum nearby as well. We have to come back here one day when it's not so cold, ok cold for us. People around here were running around in shorts, crazy lol. read more

This is a HUGE park right on the lakefront with a little something for everyone. Sometimes I take it for granted, but its a beautiful urban park. There's trails, trails, and more trails. A lagoon sitting in front of Lincoln memorial drive with paddleboats and more for rental. A kite shop and I believe bike, roller blade rentals. Several festivals/concerts and a number of walk/runs take place here. Also, I've seen some crazy wild life here (giant turtles sunning themselves next to the lagoon early in the morning, foxes, etc.) There's also an actual veterans memorial (although small) on the southside of the lagoon. There's no beach but if you trek way eastward there's a piece of land that takes you pretty far out into the lake and gives you a nice view of the city. Love our lakefront! read more

Located right on Lake Michigan's shore, the Veterans Memorial and Park put all of our proud Veterans on display and they do in such a prominent part of downtown Milwaukee. There are memorials to the fallen and special areas for the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force. Thanks to Milwaukee for recognizing the significance of our military to our way of life and putting it in such a beautiful spot on a great lake. It is a nice park for a walk. However, not much trees. Nice view and walk near the lake. Do not expect anything specific from it :)

Skyline view of the city? Check. On the waters of Lake Michigan? Check. Parking available? Check. Bikes, kayaks, boats, etc. available to rent? Check. Plenty of benches along the path? Check. My checklist speaks for itself. Veteran's Park is awesome. It's easily one of my favorite places in the city. It hosts a movie series in the summer and is a great place to spend the afternoon, regardless of the season. I love taking out of towners here! read more

Yes yes yes I know I know drafty drafty. I'm sifting through a bunch of half done, half assed reviews. Feeling good kinda shady kinda hustlin, While sipping on Kentucky tea. Out of a McDonalds tumbler. Next to an open flame, Yee haw Y'all. Well finally the fine people at Yelp HQ fixed the Geo location so our out of town friends can now find this great park. 3 months ago they had it 1.5 miles west of where it actually is. This is the only MKE park that allows you to stay overnight one day a year and camp the eve of the 4th of July. Most of the people clean up but many still leave a mess. Shame on them if they start enforcing the law about littering and camping the night. Don't wreck it for the rest of us. They usually have plenty of parking and lots of space to enjoy the scenery or picnic on the edge of Lake Michigan. So much nicer than LSD in Downtown Chicago. So many things to do here starting with biking paddling, fishing, Segway riding, horse riding, flying a kite, flying a UFO, Alien hunting, ghost hunting, shark hunting, duck hunting, deer hunting, wabbit hunting, badger hunting, coon hunting, squirrel hunting. Scratch the last few because I think that's just the booze talking. No hunting or trapping in the parks ok? Stay tuned and don't worry I still have about 4 more parks on my drafty draft pile to do. If you're visiting Milwaukee, make time to enjoy the outdoors at this park! There is a great promenade along the lake that allows for skyline views as well as vistas of Lake Michigan. I've been to several locations on 4 out of the 5 Great Lakes and this is one of the nicest parks in a larger city that takes advantage of the shoreline. I talked a friend into coming with me after a particularly arduous day while traveling for work. It was the greatest compliment when we got back to my car and she said, "Man am I glad you talked me into coming here today!" There is plenty of green space for picnicking or just relaxing - though I didn't see any picnic tables. It was a cold November day when we visited, however, so we certainly kept moving & didn't do any lounging. I used to choose to walk to work over driving just so I could walk through Veteran's Park. It is beautiful in all four seasons. There are wonderful paths for joggers/bikers/walkers and plenty of open grass areas for frisbee throwing/pic-nicing/kite flying. I absolutely love coming here for the kite festival- what a wonderful (free!) event. One of my most happiest moments in life: being at this park on a nice sunny day with my dog, cheese and crackers, and a good book. The beauty of this park just really can't be beat. read more

Today is January 10, 2012. I'll say it again: today is January 10, 2012. Today's projected high temperature? Fifty degrees. I'll say it again: today's projected high temperature is fifty degrees. Winter will probably come along on Thursday and slap me right upside the head for this review, and for that, I'm sorry. I mean, this whole global warming thing is really quite fabulous, if not a bit disconcerting. "Yay! It's not cold in that bone-crushing, completely bitter way! There aren't four-foot piles of snow surrounding my vehicle!" But... there's no snow. And, um... I don't understand. Is this a sign of the impending apocalypse? At any rate, I was reminded of the awesomeness that is Veteran's Park as I drove along the lake this morning on my way home from a meeting. This beautiful park, situated right on Lake Michigan's shoreline, is a great Milwaukee spot. You'll catch kids and families flying kites in summertime. You'll see folks in paddle boats and on those hydra-bike things in that pond... you know the one. There's a play area for children, and public art/memorials for reflection. Rent a tandem bike, if you wish. Trees and trails (for biking, running, walking, and skating) and open spaces and it's truly a breath of fresh air. Stop by and do your consciousness a solid. If you have a moment today, on this unseasonably warm January Tuesday, perhaps you should swing by. Wear some appropriate outerwear and do it, before winter shows up and checks us all in the face with it's particularly harsh brand of reality. read more

I only started visiting this gem a few years ago despite living in Milwaukee 6 years now. I love this place for sure. My husband proposed to me here summer of 2010 so i just may be biased. Where ever that happens to you, you will look on that place with a happy glow. :) Still, this place has something for everyone. For a fairly simple park, there is lots to do! It kind of merges into the mckinley marina so the whole area borders either the open lake or the harbor. There are wide open spaces where families and couples often picnic, benches where people sit to read by the gorgeous view, a kite and snack store near an open clearing where a constant handful of people with kite show off everything from basic diamond-shaped kites to giant sea creatures and whirling, twirling trick kites. In summer many a biker, jogger, and roller blader can be seen up and down the surrounding sidewalk along the shore. Just watch if you travel with little ones they don't walk out in front of anyone! I've seen some close calls! Closer to the marina, there is a paddle boat area I'm still dying to try but my husband swears paddleboating is stupid. Lol. I'll just have to find someone else! Handily close by are the alterra on the lake as well as nearby bike trails. Only downside is geese poop the place up from time to time, especially closer to the art museum. Watch out! read more

Stunning urban park. Can't say I saw the memorial, although I will make a point of taking a moment to reflect there the next time I am there. Unfortunate that there were no restroom facilities when I went, nor will there be any according to the picture posted by a Yelper for Veteran's Park. Definitely deserving of a loss of a star, considering that all animals, including but certainly not limited to human beings, need to relieve themselves at some time. I'm clearing out my queue of unfinished reviews (Or, let's be real, documentation of places I've been, the Veteran's Park doesn't really *need* a review. No one is going to read this and say "you know, I bet I should go to the park today.") It's a big urban park with lots of places to walk around. It's got nice, wide trails, plenty of space to host a meet-up or an event, and one of the best views of the skyline in Milwaukee. I really enjoyed walking around Veteran's Park during my day in Milwaukee. There is a lot of stuff to do including renting paddle boats, bikes and roller blades. There is a pretty cool kite shop that people were flying kites near as well. There were several bbq's going on as well. I really like the location of this park..it's right next to water and you have a beautiful view of the downtown skyline. (well the little skyline that Milwaukee has) I will definitely be coming back here if I'm ever in the area again. read more

This is an okay park. I was there while waiting for a ferry one year, and there was a cool Kite Festival. That was way cool. What wasn't cool is that to get from the city to the park you either have to (possibly illegally) crawl down a really steep embankment, walk a really long way around, or drive. The lakeside area is beautiful. The grassy area is beautiful. The trees surrounding the grassy area is beautiful. The three stick looking monuments are not so beautiful. I would have though they'd do a better looking memorial. Luckily for us, we found a close spot and free parking and were able to check out this memorial anyway just to say we saw it. read more

Between the marina, the kite shop, the trail out onto the breakwater and the many open spaces, the pond with paddle boats, this park has something for everyone. There are so many places to walk around and trails abound. There are easy accesses from Milwaukee (from above) and the parking situation isnt usually terrible but some weekend days can be a real pain with traffic and people on the one main drag. The altera that is there at the old pump house always seems to be busy and is a great place to grab a snack when you are famished from running or walking the trails. The trails here connect south through Lakefront Park and north through Bradford beach. They are wide and well travelled by bikers, walkers, runners, and everything inbetween. read more
