THIS IS A SCAMMER... I've been a loyal Groupon user for years, relying on it to stretch my budget as a father of four. While I've had a few minor issues in the past, they were resolved by customer service. However, I now have a serious concern. I purchased a Groupon from them for Veterans Clean Air Services, who were supposed to clean my air ve chimney, and dryer vent for $79. "The technician" arrived, claimed there was black mold in my home, and quoted $2,400 for remediation. I couldn't afford that, so he offered a $2,000 deal if I paid cash. Trusting Groupon's vetting process, I paid the amount. After spraying something in my home, he promised to return in two weeks, but after a couple of reschedules... I've heard nothing since. Groupon is basically is selling my information to companies or in this case people, without a vetting process? Do they even verify if they are an actual business? I requested that Groupon take responsibility to cover for their role in sending criminals to my home. (other than the petty refund of a service that I obviously not recieved ) I actually have stepped out of my home to get the cash, leaving my wife and daughter in the house with this criminal. What would had happen if instead of a scammer this person was a killer? Groupon.com appears to believe that it is the consumer's responsibility to exercise caution and conduct due diligence when engaging with vendors. While I can understand this stance in cases where vendors provide services that may be priced higher than others or in situations involving service disagreements or errors, the situation I am facing involves individuals engaging in criminal behavior with Groupon's help. Groupon keeps telling and I quote " By way of background,  Groupon is a marketing platform that allows merchants to run advertisements for their own goods and services.  All merchants are the official issuers of their Groupon vouchers purchased by customers and merchants are responsible for the goods and services they sell and render to the customers". read more

I bought the Groupon to clean my air ducts and when Robert showed up the Groupon was never even mentioned. This was right after the storm in May and I knew that I had some mold in my vents because I had had my handyman take care of a couple of them. Robert showed up and said that I have an old house and that I have mold everywhere in my attic and it's just horror and doom basically ,so he told me that I had to pay him $1600 by cash app and that he would be back in August to complete the work with the Roto brush after he had sprayed for a few minutes up in my attic. My husband suspects that all he sprayed was water if he even sprayed anything at all, my husband started screaming that he was a scammer right away and that I was an idiot for paying this guy ,and I thought his Christian demeanor and veteran status meant that I could trust him ! Well I was taken for a ride and I have tried to email them and tried to get them to come back out and finish the job and they do not answer at all. This company is an absolute sham. When the technician came to my house, he said I needed an expensive treatment that would kill mold and was more than $1,000. I'm a single mom & was worried about my kids so said yes. He said that we had to wait a month after the treatment to actually clean the ducts. He then came back & said it needed another treatment. This man seemed very kind & knowledgeable so I said ok and he did it again - and I paid again. Fast forward & when it was time to actually clean the ducts, I could not get ahold of the company. I called, emailed, even texted the technician who had said he was the owner. I never actually had my ducts cleaned and after bugging Groupon, I finally got a refund. Cash App and Chase could NOT get the money back... even after only 30 minutes after the transaction b/c it was a debit transaction. Group on had 400+ positive reviews... i have no clue how this guy is on GroupOn... I have had no luck in contacting GroupOn about the scam. If I could give this -200 stars, I would. We are the newest victims of this scam. Purchased through Groupon which is not only still up and taking business, but boosted with hundreds of "positive" reviews. Once the "Veteran" Robert Cross (aka Tommy Ray) shows up, he completely convinces you that your vents are covered in mold. He charged us $1750 to "clear the mold" and has to schedule a follow up appointment to actually clean the vents 2 months later. When the scheduled cleaning appointment rolls around, he will text you from one of his several numbers confirming the appointment. Right before he is supposed to show up, he will have to reschedule due to a pretty detailed emergency. He will never actually come and clean, he will scam you out of your hard earned money. We have rescheduled 3 times already and it's been half a year. Help us get the word out by contacting WFAA, NBCDFW and any local new anchors. We should also get together to form a class action lawsuit. We cannot let Groupon and this guy get away with it. read more

I hired Veteran Air Cleaning Services to come clean my air ducts on 10/17/23 through the Groupon app. Robert Cross, the owner of the business came and told me my air ducts couldn't be cleaned because he found black mold. I paid him $2050 through Cashapp for him to get rid of the black mold. He sprayed some solution into the air duct and said he will come back in a month. My next appointment was scheduled for 8am-10am on 11/29/23. He texted me that morning saying he will arrive between 8-8:30am. He rang my doorbell at 7:50am but I was in the bathroom getting ready. He waited for a few minutes and left. He did not call my phone. I contacted him at 8 and he said he had already left to go see another client. He said he would try to come back later but never did. I rescheduled for 01/18/24 and he did not arrive at all or tried to contact me. I asked him for a refund on 01/19/24 and he blocked my number. Thought I was getting a "deal" on air vent cleaning but all of a sudden that service changed to mold remediation. Tommy did his song and dance, bragged on being a vet (working while on disability), and then tried to charge me over a thousand dollars for spraying "something" into the blower on my furnace by cutting a hole into it. Luckily I realized I'd been had and called my credit card company and stopped payment. I reported him using his plates and picture of his truck I took while he was in the attic. He just rotates through states, makes up a company on Groupon or similar site, gets a new shirt and cards, and the scam is on. He buys his own deals (that's why the price is so low, so it's a cheap way for him to advertise his "bait-and-switch") so he can have family and friends write glowing reviews and offset the people who figure out he's nothing more than a scammer giving vets a bad name. Also, if you don't have stainless steel vents in your house (and who does these days?), you cannot use an air duct cleaning service with brushes because it will tear up your vents. I called my local AC repair company and had my entire main duct replaced for $350. I was gifted a vent cleaning by this company and it was a scam. The owner came to my house looked at my ac unit and told the green condescension was mold. He then poked a hole into the ac cover and said that I had black mold. He told me the only way to get rid of it was to use a fogging system. I brought a Groupon for air duct cleaning and when Veterans clean air owner can out, he found black mole in my ducts.I was charged $2108 for him to spray a chemical to clear it after 2 months he came back and had th spray again. after 2 more months he came back and said it was clear without showing pictures. So I believe that I still have black mole in my ducts. Not only that, the Groupon included dryer cleaning duct and when he came out he told me that I had to get a roofer to clean that duct. Then he pointed to some random pipe on my roof over the garage and said that he couldn't clean it because of where it was located. A man named Robert Cross showed up and went into the attic and 10 min later said we had dangerous black mold and he would charge us 2400 to put chemicals in vent and would then come clean vents. He said he wouldnt take a credit card was first red flag I missed. Reputable companies take credit cards. Then he said he needed a check or a debit card . We wrote him two 1200 checks from 2 banks and he said not to fill in name of company because he had a stamp in his truck. That was second red flag I missed. He went into attic for 5 minutes and left. He immediately cashed our checks under the name of Thomas Ray at the bank. I called him several times to ask when he would finish job and why were the checks cashed under Thomas Ray.
