Viking Automotive - Collapsed oil filter with bubbles. Again, no metal or debris

Viking Automotive

(15 reviews)

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was bad enough to warrant one. What I…read moreencountered at Viking Automotive in Vero Beach was not just disappointing--it was dishonest and unprofessional. From the beginning, basic expectations weren't met. Communication was slow or nonexistent, and when I did get answers, they were dismissive rather than helpful. I took my 2007 BMW Z4 3.0i E85 in for a straightforward diagnostic: rough cold start, a tire sensor issue, and a few mechanical noises. I was told it would take a couple of hours, which I was more than willing to pay for--especially if it meant getting a thorough, accurate assessment by their only BMW Mechanic! Instead, after about an hour, I found my car already sitting back in the lot with no phone call it was ready or an update. I was then told that nothing had been done beyond checking the oil, and that the engine was essentially "breaking down" due to supposed metal shavings and large debris in the oil filter. No one showed me the filter at the time. No one explained the findings clearly. I never even spoke directly to the mechanic. The written report was filled with vague language, like "possibly this" and "possibly that," which is not a diagnosis--it's guesswork. Despite claiming photos were taken, none were provided so I had to call and request them. Once I received the photos, I see this in the Subject of the email: * INSPECTION RESULTS FOR YOUR 2007 BMW Z4 ROADSTER* "3.0si" I Told them my Bimmer was a 3.0i ... did I receive another 2007 BMW owners diagnostic report?! And it's THEIR oil filter and diagnostic I received?!?! Are they THAT Unorganized & Incompetent? What's worse is what came next. After spending days stressed, believing my engine was failing, I had the car inspected by an independent mechanic. He reviewed the same photos and immediately identified what Viking called "metal" as air bubbles. When he physically inspected the car, he confirmed there were zero metal shavings or plastic debris in the oil filter--just bubbles. He also explained why the filter had collapsed, which was supposed to have been changed by a previous mechanic in Fort Pierce (obviously didn't change the filter, did they even change the oil)? After a cold start, changed AND filter, put in an additive all of which has quieted the tapping to ticking (intrinsic of the N52 per BMW) and improving. He then took my car for a drive afterward and stated my Bimmer has a strong engine! So now I'm left with a simple conclusion: either the Viking BMW mechanic, Colton, lacks the basic competence to distinguish between metal debris and air bubbles, or they knowingly misrepresented the condition of my engine, plus exaggerated damage, or diagnosed another BMW and sent me photos of another owner's Oil Filter, or simply LIED! None of which is acceptable. Kathy refused to do any other diagnoses as requested, nor will she do any repairs, and couldn't explain in-depth the diagnoses I needed explained. (She's a mechanic too??). The only person that should be explaining the diagnoses is THE Mechanic him or herself and Show ME the Filter! If they didn't want to work on an older BMW, they should have said so. Instead, they chose to provide a rushed, incomplete, and ultimately misleading assessment that caused unnecessary stress, wasted my time and money. Time IS Money! I would have gladly paid for a full, proper diagnostic and on MY CAR, Not someone elses. Instead, I paid for an hour of speculation and left with a completely inaccurate conclusion about MY vehicle's condition. I cannot recommend Viking Automotive to anyone looking for honesty, reliability, or professional integrity. There are far better options out there that actually value their customers, appreciate drivers that love their vehicle, and not only Do the Work, but stand behind it!

My car was experiencing some unusual startup issues that might be related to electronics. Meanwhile the building was under rennovation and service was in a trailer, and several technicians were out sick with a stomach bug. Despite those challenges, Mike in service, and my experienced technician Dave, were both helpful and true to their word. Dave took a good deal of time to give me his first hand view of the issue, which I really appreciated as a car guy. The issue isn't totally resolved yet, but I left with a great vibe and it feels right to share that here. Because sadly I encounter more and more cases when companies don't do the right thing and aren't true to their word. I will follow up here when all is said and done, with hopefully more good news :)

Shame on you all.

I believe that the Vatland CDJR Management team In Vero Beach does NOT practice good business…read moreethics. I also believe that the customer is NOT a valued customer, especially after the paperwork is signed. Management will not try to work on any kind of solution when an issue or concern is brought up after any paperwork has been signed. Instead you will get a response from the management team like what was said to me, " tough crap you signed off on inspection of the vehicle, we are not going to do anything about it, we are not returning your downpayment, if you choose to go to court, you will lose, and you will have to pay court costs. And this was all said before even taking delivery of the vehicle at the dealership. The management team at Vatland also instills intimidation of retaliation with any of the good people working at the dealership with losing their jobs, if they were to speak up and side with the customer. And this is in fact what happened in my situation. On top of dealing with the awful and disrespectful management at Vatland CDJR dealership, I would NOT put much trust into their maintenance department either. They changed out a tire on the vehicle and for some reason did NOT reinstall the Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor(TPMS). The vehicle did not recognize this until it reset/recalibrated about 20min down the road. When I called the dealership about this situation, I did not get one phone call back. I bought a used vehicle from this dealership, and I am hoping it will be a good one. Because at this point, who knows what else they know about this vehicle and are not telling me. My advice to anyone who wishes to purchase a vehicle from Vatland CDJR dealership; DO NOT sign any paperwork in advance and coming back another day to take delivery of the vehicle, look over the vehicle 4 times and have someone else with you doing the same thing. Management will try to point blame towards you for any damage on the vehicle, even though the salesman is with you the whole time. I am a one and done customer at Vatland CDJR Vero Beach Dealership

No detailed information for our direct questions, even incorrect information being provided. Just get the deal done. We have never bought an extended warranty or maintenance plan before. We bought the Platinum highest priced plan. We didn't know Hyundai quit doing the free oil change? We knew we were being hustled and prepaying for maintenance at a higher rate and who wants to read or can fully understand the fine print. We felt ok because we wanted peace of mind for such a complicated vehicle. The best outcome is the vehicle will never need repairing. If the expensive computer modules, electronics, electric seats, etc. fail, hopefully they will be repaired with the maintenance plan we purchased.

They were able to put me in a lease on a 2017 Mazda 3 Touring that I am happy to drive today. I held off a week from leaving a review because I wanted to see how much I would enjoy the car and I can say I love it. My car before this was a 2013 Honda Accord and the 3 Touring is so much nicer all around. It's more comfortable handles better and much less road noise while driving. Yes it is a four year newer vehicle, and I drove a new Accord, but I didn't enjoy it as much as Mazda 3 on the test drive. As for the dealership, I will say it was by far the most comfortable hassle free car purchase I have ever done. I provided them my numbers, and to my surprise, they were able to come below what I asked. This is something that almost never happens and trust me I wasn't a pushover. I think it was the professionalism and understanding of the gentleman at Dyer Mazda that was able to make this happen. It was much appreciated in my wallet for sure. After the sale Pete as able to walk me through every feature the car had to offer. Some I was unaware of that came in this model. He is a great person and salesman with the proper knowledge of the brand and models. I will say without a doubt that I am very proud that I have purchased from Dyer Mazda and for certain will do so again. Yeah, I may have sounded like a commercial, but I'm truly happy with my purchase how can you not?
