Think motel 6. I can't believe holiday inn is ok with their name on this place. It's old and…read moreoutdated. Chairs are rip and stained. Bathtub is stained. Vanity is extremely old and scratched. Tv is like a 32". By far the worst holiday inn I've stayed at. Like I said it's pretty much a motel 6. Only positive is the staff. They are very friendly and helpful.

Bless their hearts. The poor staff tried their best but it is horrible. We have been coming to…read morethis location since it opened up and I am a club member due to the amount of times we have stayed here. It has been a couple years since our last stay. Last time I thought it was getting bad but this time was the pits. Here's the breakdown: Pros: -The staff was friendly, kind, and respectful -Breakfast was your typical holiday inn express breakfast. Nothing to complain about really. -bed were comfy and sheets seemed clean Cons: -waited close to an hour past check in to get in room. Staff said there were many rooms checking out and only 4 housekeepers working. -rooms have not been deep cleaned in a long time (probably because they don't have the time with limited staff) - dust everywhere -mold around a/c vents, bathroom -paint peeling from ceiling and walls -furniture was ripped and dirty -floors were sticky and dirty to the point of wearing shoes in the room - door handle was broken to bathroom -cockroach found under bench where luggage was placed -trash was thrown in one lamp. Was also dusty -hall light was hanging from ceiling -not enough towels. Had to go to front desk. Not enough there either so had to wait on housekeeping to come bring extra. Positive was that the housekeeper was very nice. -keys didn't work most of the time. Many visits to front desk. Other families were in rooms and they had a ripped couch where there was pieces were missing where staff covered it with towels. Under their couch they had a half eaten brownie. When doing her nails the mom used a black light dryer and unfortunately saw the couch under that light. . Their key didn't work so much the front desk gave them a master key . Another family had to be moved because a/c would go any lower than 78 degrees. Their next room had a pull out couch where their daughter was to sleep but it wouldn't pull out. She had to sleep on the couch but the sheets were filthy. Luckily her mom brings extra sheets for situations like this. The pool: the device for allowing people in wheelchairs into the pool was broken. The water was chilly. The sky lights were broken and covered with trash bags. Water wasn't horribly dirty. Two towels available for all swimmers at 10 am. Breakfast area: staff kept food supplied. One staff member was friendly while another did her job and was not overly friendly but that is okay. Both were attentive to cleaning the tables and floors. Overall, breakfast area was fine. Lobby was okay as well. Overall: wouldn't recommend. This is unfortunate. This use to be a really nice hotel but it has really gone down hill. This is beyond needing updating. It needs an overhaul and deep cleaning. Then the morning of their departure the outlet tripped.

However, the true beauty in this home was not the home or antique pieces, Bernette, the owner, is the true gem when you stay at Shadowlawn. She goes above and beyond for her guests and truly cares for the people staying in her home. Mississippi is known for hospitality and Bernette epitomizes the spirit of hospitality in Mississippi. When you talk with Bernette, it is like talking with a friend you have known for years. The breakfast she makes is five-star quality and made from scratch. The rooms were very comfortable and well-designed and decorated. We slept like babies. We also were staying during a MSU gameday weekend, and the rates for our stay were great, especially considering the alternatives were very pricey and do not come with Bernette and her amazing personality and attitude. We highly recommend anyone visiting Columbus or Starkville to stay with Bernette at Shadowlawn. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Columbus because we already know where we will be staying, which is Shadowlawn. Why go anywhere else?

When we arrived we were told there was nothing available on the 1st floor and they we're renovating therefore less rooms were ready and available. I called this hotel twice before the arrival and no one communicated anything to me about renovations. I had clearly stated what we needed. My 85 year old parents had to go to a 3rd floor room with 2 double beds and a bathroom with no walk in shower, and no seat. They refused to do anything else for them. They argued with us and offered no solutions. Very disappointing to say the least. My room is on the 4th floor. Photos tell the story. Yuck!

I went to front desk and spoke to Mitchell first he was so understanding and took 100% accountability and told me it was the front desks fault and not mine which I appreciated so much. he offered me a partial refund or an extra room comped So I took the extra room which I could get the next day, so next day checked in to the second room and who ever was in it before us wet the bed so we couldn't stay there... so got a 3rd room from Yolonda this was not a great situation at all and only thanks to Mitchell it was sorted with a lot of moving about, I also spoke with the cleaner about the wet bed situation and she made the room up and blew me off, so I'm telling everyone to make sure your room is correct when you arrive at front desk Day 1 cleaner took our dirty towels and did not bring back clean ones or make the beds or empty the trash No towels at pool area had to ask for the pool towels at front desk twice I don't recommend staying here with children

This hotel checked both boxes and since I have stayed in Columbus many times in the past, I was looking for something new. In the last year or so, I have slowly been reintroduced to the Wyndham brand and furthermore, the La Quinta brand itself. Many moons ago in the '90s, La Qunita was my goto as I had a hotel budget for business trips and often stayed in some rather not so great La Quinta properties around the US. Fast forward to the modern era, I have decided to give this brand another shot and its hotels like the MSU La Quinta that make the decision easier. The MSU location is one of the great examples of where this brand is going. The new-look La Quintas such as this one is modern, bright, with more amenities to cater to the business, conference and family crowd of hotel visitors. I found this hotel had a great welcoming decor in the lobby and the guest areas on the first floor. The fresh complimentary coffee and lemon water were a nice touch. The fitness center was also very pleasing as it had enough modern equipment to get a good workout in. The gym was clean, the equipment newer and functional, with the extras needed for various types of workouts. My room layout was quite pleasing as it had two sections, one where the bed is and two, an archway separating the sleeping area from the living room area, which gave the room the feel of a larger space. The bed was big and comfortable, there was enough room on the desk for a laptop and other electronics. The room had a Cubey in it so, there were some extra ports to plug in my phone and other USB ported items. The rooms wifi signal was strong with very little lagtime which is a must for the business traveller. In the large and spotless bathroom, all the towels and accessories were neatly laid out and tidy. I was able to have a long, hot shower after a workout in the gym. The breakfast area was another great feature as there was plenty of room for multiple guests to sit down and eat. The food choices consisted of hot and cold cereals, oatmeal, and fresh bread, bagels, and pastries. The hot food had many choices as well, so you won't go away hungry after visiting the breakfast area. The staff are very attentive and clean up and replenish the food quickly. To conclude, this was a very good stay, in a well-managed hotel. The money I paid for my one-night stay, it was worth every dollar. This is a great choice if you're in the area, I can't see why anyone would be disappointed.
