Despite the crowds, everything was fairly well organized considering the number of visitors. We enjoyed the short walk from the visitor center to Mather Point. The views are absolutely incredible and it's one of the best places to admire and photograph the Grand Canyon. The parking lot is huge, but signage indicated it definitely fills up during busy times. Thankfully, we arrived later in the day, so parking wasn't an issue for us. Overall, even with the crowds, it's a well-run visitor center and a great place to begin your Grand Canyon adventure.

There are informational boards outside with information about hiking, trail conditions, and maps. The bathrooms are in a separate building, as are the gift shop, and bike rental with a cafe. It's clever to separate all the amenities so the buildings don't get flooded with people; rather it's all split out with a central outdoor area. Just a little far out are the stops for the shuttle system.

Fresh veggies were cheap - $5 for a box of salad mix or $1.79 for loose leaf salad. There is a shared parking lot with a tavern. They wanted $15 for a salad and another $4.99 for a meat option. Just saying, you can save money for souvenirs or a special meal. You don't need to spend $50 for a couples of salads or burgers. The place was clean, to include the outdoor seating area. Plus the view beyond the parking lot is like you're in the middle of the forest.

Cool little visitor center and gift shop in Grand Canyon Village. It is located within walking…read moredistance of the Hopi House and El Tovar Hotel. John Verkamp sold souvenirs from a tent to visitors who came to the Grand Canyon in the late 1800's. The Verkamps eventually constructed this building and built their business on service to their guests, employees, and to the surrounding community. They were instrumental in building the Grand Canyon community to what it is today. After the building was sold, it became a visitor and education center. There are restrooms and a water bottle filling station nearby. You can also stamp your national parks passport book here.
