I had built 4 previous homes with Veridian, yet they cancelled my home build & took away my lot, and they could do it to you too. So I recommend staying away. It's a big hassle having to start over again! During the design phase of my home, Veridian attempted to charge me ~ $800 for a hood fan over my stove, even though it was specified as standard in the contract wording that they wrote. I respectfully disputed the charge and the matter was escalated to the Area VP who, instead of making a decision about the charge, terminated my contract. Apparently they had someone ready to go on the lot, as it never showed available again. And they'd rather sell to someone who doesn't read the contract. Some background on this: for most of the past ~ 20 years that they've been around, hood fans were free & microwaves were a slight upcharge & chimney vents were a significant upcharge. In the last few years, the design team decided to flip the upcharge from the microwave to the hood fan. This is obviously because more people do hood fans now so it's a way to raise the base price by burying the most common choice as a significant upgrade. Even though the design team did this, the contract team did not update the contract. When I saw the charge, I disputed it respectfully and asked for an explanation of why. They told me several inaccurate reasons that didn't make sense and actually went against their prior documentation. I read the contract and showed them where it said the hood fan was included. Despite my emails being perfectly respectful, the Area VP demanded that I come meet him in person "with a plan to move forward". What I deduced from my personal builder was that this was going to be him making limits on what I could do or say. I requested it be virtual, which was declined. I then said I looked forward to finishing the design phase and just wanted a decision on the hood fan before agreeing to go in. At that point, the Area VP terminated my contract. A Google search of the Area VP shows that his son works at Veridian and was arrested in 2020 for a physical interaction with a female. The Area VP took his ex-wife to an appeals court to get out of paying family support. These are not nice people. In the long run, I'm getting a better house for less money with another builder but having a 4 month later closing date is definitely causing me some heartache. The bottom line is I respectfully disputed a charge for something that was standard in the contract. The real estate market is so hot right now that Veridian decided to cancel my build rather than admit their error. Stay away unless you like Napoleon Syndrome Area VP's terminating your contract because you actually read it. I've read Veridian's response to my review, and here's my response: I submitted all of my emails to ChatGPT and asked the program to determine if they were professional and respectful (you can do this too). Here is what ChatGPT thought of my emails (note, it doesn't think I was mean or rude. Veridian is chagrined that a customer actually tried to upset the power dynamic and are trying to cloak their power play as some sort of attempt at defending an employee): "Overall, your email conveys your concerns and your intention to find a solution, and it is mostly respectful and professional, despite some more confrontational moments." Does this sound like an email that necessitated terminating a contract to defend an employee? This is why the Area VP's character comes into play. The decision makes no sense otherwise. My personal builder told me that "two years ago this never would have happened", meaning that the hot real estate market has emboldened a builder to kick customers off lots that 10 years ago they were in foreclosure on. read more

Overall the experience working with our Personal Builder, Designer, and new home specialist were great. However, like other reviews say, if you need anything fixed within your warranty period it's almost impossible to get anything done in a timely manner. Some of that is due to the subcontractors Veridian uses...if those subcontractors change the quality in your home and your neighbors can be extremely different. Get your own deck builder and landscaper. The decks are shoddy quality. After 4 years I'm spending a lot of money to get mine ripped out and replaced by a real deck builder. One of the corner support posts of my deck is not straight. I'm pretty sure Bruce Company hit the post when landscaping my yard because it was straight when we moved it. Though, there were places where deck boards weren't screwed in, railing spindles weren't screwed in, they didn't take the rail all the way to my house and didn't place a spindle making the gap the width of a board...which isn't safe with my 1 year-old. Also places where boards are broken and one that pushes down when you step on it. I had several decking companies give me estimates and each said they had no idea how the deck passed inspection as the support posts weren't wide enough. Landscaping wise we had the same issue of standing water in our yard. Water was leaking into our back neighbor's house. Thankfully, that was corrected. However, Bruce Company didn't do our landscaping correctly (planting tall grass in front of flowers so you can't see them. Also pretty sure they didn't place our back trees where they were supposed to, but I couldn't find any documentation of the landscaping plans to have it corrected. Also lost several trees to drainage issues but at least Bruce Company has been good about replacing them. In a few years I'm sure I'll hire a different landscaper to improve the property. Overall I haven't really had any issues inside, like my house and neighborhood...just beware of their decks! read more

An update....three years and 6 months after moving into a new house, the construction noise, dirt, loud beeping backup signals that we hear from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. End of construction in the area is years away.I find roofing and siding nails on the streets nearly every day on my morning walk and ended up in one in a brand new set of Michelin tires. The cracked foundation that was "fixed" a month after we moved in is now leaking again, and since we had the basement finished off this will turn into a very expensive fix. One problem after another. The advertised "liveabilty" and "quality construction" simply do not exist for us. Update.....carpet is coming off the floors in all 3 bedrooms. The laminate flooring is "bubbling along the edges. The longer we live here, the more I regret my decision to buy this ho Yet another update.....add to the list of annoyances the toxic smell from the sealer used in new construction garage floors. We purchased our second Veridian this past March. Our first home was build solid and there is nothing other then the lawn we had any issues with in 12 years. The lawn was had spots were nothing would grow until we replaced all the dirt. Amy K. Help us get the exact house we wanted and with her suggestions and help making choices made the process easy and painless. Once we moved into our home we had a few small issues and also there is a marked difference in quality construction from our first home. None of our doors fit right. Because the doors are not straight the trim is not even. Our bath and shower both have uneven gaps and Dave Jones plumbing was to come out and repair, but at the last minute said they would not. They said the spec said there could be a 1/8 gap( which the spec really states 1/64 or 1mm) which the bath was at 1/4 and and shower at 1/2". They sprayed foam to make bend the PVC to close the gap 1/8". They had a sales rep come and put a credit card in the gap and said it was fine. I wish he would have left the credit card! After 5 months we still have no written statement that it was installed correctly. Our yard is the same as the last house with solid rock less the 2 inches in spots. We have an epic video with or security camera of them dumping dirt over rock. We had washed out spots they never repaired after we called the help desk and warranty people. They did drop off more seed today! We had items in escrowed and our bank paid for that are not completed. We had at least 5 days where I took off work and no one showed. There has been mix ups on who takes care of stuff while others are out of the office. The bright spots and pro's of our house is the concrete people J. Anderson was excellent . The cabinet are awesome . Because of Amy K's attention to detail we love our home. I feel Veridian uses high quality materials in their homes, but they have to be installed correctly! We are trying to see what or next step will be to get this repair made. read more

I would never recommend buying a Veridian home, and would not hesitate to share this experience anytime I'm asked. They know what the issue is, but refuse to fix it. If my case is an example, they're not a company you can count on to do the right thing. Veridian refuses to correct a drainage issue where they diverted water away from our neighbor's lot onto ours. This is against their own HOA, but that seems little bit to them. When they 'fixed' it, they simply moved the problem from one side of my house to the other. They were also unresponsive and inattentive during my initial report and follow-ups. They were prompt in saying they wouldn't fix it any further based on my follow-up complaint. read more

The home is beautifully designed and the neighborhood is great. However, potential buyers should be aware that these homes go up very quickly and Viridian's warranties aren't all that impressive, especially on some of the biggest and most dangerous issues that can occur with poor workmanship after that first or two (see below). We had an electrical fire in our kitchen due to poor wiring as confirmed by an electrician. Thankfully, the fire did not spread very far, but families should be aware of this. Using cheaper paint and supplies to get homes up quickly and keep the price down isn't so dangerous, but poor electrical work is more serious and dangerous -- and harder to notice during a routine home inspection. There may be other homes that have already had their warranties expire that might be facing similar dangers inside their home right now, since it isn't always immediately obvious when an electrical fire is a risk until the breaker is tripping or you remove the faceplate to inspect it. We lived in a Veridian home for 10 years. I wouldn't rate them as awful, but I sure would not build with them again. Our house was not a spec - we met with the designers in their design studio, and at the time, were pretty impressed with the ease of the process. Frankly, our ignorance and inexperience didn't prepare us to know whether what we were getting was good or bad. Obviously, that isn't Veridian's fault. Anne G. nailed it in her review of Veridian. Once we had been in the house for a while, we started noticing clues about the deficient workmanship. (For example, several door frames and baseboards that weren't quite flush/square at the corners, and windows that were very difficult to crank open or closed.) I agree with Anne G., that Veridian shoots to get things done quickly, and that speed comes at the price of quality. However, we found Veridian's customer service was an even bigger disappointment than their workmanship. Here's an example: When our house was built, we were one of the first few houses in our subdivision. The lot we picked was perfect for the floor plan we wanted, but was at a lower elevation than some of the other lots, because of the hilly terrain. In order to keep the backyards, and the common green space between them relatively flat, Veridian built retaining walls with large stones/boulders. One was along the backyards above us, and another across our backyard. All of that was perfectly fine with us. The problem became evident the spring after the houses higher up than us were finished (and of course after our 12-month warranty had expired). For some reason, a constant flow of water was now coming through our stone retaining wall, turning a substantial portion of our backyard along said wall into a swamp. The swamp never dried out, even during a very dry summer. The water kept draining into our backyard. Our kids and their friends would lose their shoes if they accidentally ran too close to the bog-area, and of course mowing the grass became a huge hassle. We tried various solutions, but it continued to get worse. When we asked Veridian if they would help us fix the problem before it took over our yard, the Veridian people couldn't care less. Not their problem. The homeowners' association refused to help us with the cost of repairs too, so we paid for it all ourselves, even though the drainage from above us was completely out of our control. Ultimately, we hired contractors to install drain tiles all along our backyard (adjacent to the stone wall) to catch the draining water. We also had to run enough pipe to shunt the flow out to the street side curb in front of our house. The swamp areas still couldn't dry out enough to keep grass, so we had to put in a long rock bed all across our backyard boundary. And after all that work, we still had to repair the yard where all the tiles and pipes had gone in. It wasn't cheap. Ironically, Veridian still had a problem after all. We dealt with the swamp problem, but the stone retaining wall continued to degrade from the drainage. (Technically, the wall belonged to Veridian and the neighborhood association, so we couldn't do anything to it when we had our repairs done.) Eventually, a couple of the big boulders came loose from the wall and tumbled into our yard. We called Veridian again, and again they tried to tell us it was not their problem. They begrudgingly fixed the loose boulders, but only after we pointed out the logical and legal ramifications of maintaining their stance. So... buyer beware. For us, Veridian's non-customer service is the real reason not to ever build with them again, but the cheap quality is certainly an issue too. Our experience with Veridian may not be typical, but they sure did not seem motivated to help us when problems cropped up. read more

My wife and I purchased a newly constructed home through Veridian Homes nearly a year ago. We could not be happier with the experience and the professionalism of each of the Veridian employees. Our new home specialist Amy K. has gone above and beyond our expectations to accommodate us with any needs or concerns. Her ability to actively listen to our preferences and needs allowed us to find an excellent fit. Since purchasing the home she has been approachable and prompt with any assistance needed. Our personal builder Dave E. has also been great to work with. He has treated us with the utmost respect and gone above and beyond to approach any concerns we have had with the new home. As with any new construction there are minor flaws, however he has been quick to provide any assistance necessary to remedy the issue. Dave also provided helpful suggestions and advice for up keeping and maintenance of the home. His experience and professionalism make him a true asset to the company. read more

Prior to our lawn being installed we met with the Bruce company and our builder. Veridian has temporary storm water drainage walls in the undeveloped area of our neighborhood. Since we have moved in they have failed to prevent the storm water from running down the entire neighborhood into the new phase of 4 homes. We informed both companies of this prior to them finishing our lawn. We suggested they put up a temporary rock wall like they do everywhere else to prevent the storm water flow. Once they develop the row of houses behind us this problem will be taken care of. But since a road isn't in place with drainage several acres of storm water is flowing through my yard. We will never be able to keep our lawn in tact. It all washed out. I told them this would happen as every rainfall since March this has occurred and they ignored me. This should not be a new home owners responsibility to manage a developers water flow problems. read more

It did not sell for 8 months and we lost money. They take short cuts every step of the way, the materials they use are the cheapest possible, they make promises they don't keep, it was a horrible experience. We bought our Veridian Home about two years ago and we are both still in love with it. Building a home can be a very stressful process but our sales person, design person, and personal builder helped to make everything go smoothly. They have an onsite design studio so items can be picked out in one place - a major advantage. We decided to splurge and get upgraded granite countertops. There were samples in the design studio but we were also given the option of picking out the actual slabs for our home. It was a great experience. We closed on the date that we were given at the beginning of the process and the home was in move-in condition. While in the home there were questions and service items that came up but the office staff and our personal builder made sure everything was properly addressed. I would highly recommend Veridian Homes to anyone looking for a new home. read more

This is the first house we built. Building a home is a fun and exciting process. The overall quality of the home is doable. There were some issues, but they were mostly resolved. The biggest concern that was left outstanding is the drainage of the back yard. We have gone back and forth for a year about how my yard drains. Veridian is good about allowing you to voice your concerns, but from my experiences, at the end you waste a lot of time and effort, as nothing was done to resolve my repeated concerns of my yard collecting the majority of runoff rain in my area. I have been told that the yard is designed to properly drain. I disagree. I have lost trees and shrubs due to the continuous wet nature yard. My one year warranty is over, and I am stuck with a house that has a yard that pools water when it rains. I have heard many excuses how why this happens, from the roots of the grass need more time to grow, to your landscaping slows the drainage of the yard, to there was a 300 and 500 year rain this year and that is why this drainage was an issue. But, it will rain again, and my yard will turn into a marsh again, making it impossible to use. If you are planning on building with Veridian, I urge you to spend extra time discussing and understanding the drainage of your subdivision, or you may end up in my predicament. read more

My fiance and I just bought a home and there was a heavy thunderstorm. We had a lot of internal damage and personal items (laptop/table) destroyed. The water came in through 6 different windows (Master bedroom, living room, guest room and basement) and was able to get into the ceiling and leak through the lights in the kitchen. When talking to Veridian they seemed to think that this would happen to everyone (it did in the neighborhood) but claimed that this was "normal" for heavy thunderstorms. They are taking no responsibility for poor build. When asked about warranty, they claimed that any storm is an "Act of God" and that they could not do anything about it. Also, any issue that my fiance and I find is like pulling teeth to get it fixed. Veridian is just looking to build their cookie cutter homes and then move on to the next one. Once you sign, they do not look to take care of your issues. We are still within our 1 yea warrent and am worried about what can/will happen when Veridian can take even less responsibility. Oh also, we have the worst smelling dish washer of all time. No idea why, but leave a spoon in there over-night and you'll be lucky if you can leave it open for more than a few seconds. read more

Our first home was a Veridian home. We built it, and have lived here for 11 years. Over that time, we have had one issue with the home. A few months after we moved in, several of the shingles would blow off the roof in a storm. Veridian came out as soon as I called them. They investigated, and then offered to replace the entire roof, free of charge. They did it for free, promptly and even gave me a better quality shingle than what I originally had on the roof. We have loved our home for many, many years and are now in the process of building another new home with Veridian. They offer the best prices, the best neighborhoods and we found the quality to be excellent. The craftsmanship was great. The foundation was flat and true, the framing is square and spot on. The plumbing has never given us a single problem, electric wiring was run neatly and professionally. The basement has been 100% dry. Heating and cooling bills are low, furnace is quiet and efficient. I think it is important to note that Veridian subcontracts out most of the work. I know for a fact that the subcontractors doing the work for Veridian, are the SAME subcontractors doing identical work for so called "custom builders". So, if you use a custom builder who charges you more money, ask them why this is the case, since their subcontractors are the same ones used by Veridian, and they are doing exactly the same quality of work. This isn't Cadillac vs Chevy...This is Buick to Buick, if you understand what I am getting at. A custome builder will try to convince you otherwise, but look and compare and you will see the truth. Veridian offers better pricing than competitors because they can buy land in bulk, not because of lower quality, etc. In fact, I would say that based on the custom homes I have seen, Veridian does better work than most. Are they perfect-----no. But nobody is perfect. I am not perfect and neither are you. However, they are really nice people to deal with. My advice is that you should not punish them for offering lower prices than competitors. I visit the home site quite often and I can assure you that Veridian is not cutting corners. In fact, they are doing a more thorough job than other builders just down the road from where our house is being built. Judge for yourself. Please go visit a Veridian model home and spend a few hours, looking at the details...Look at the foundation quality, look at the framing...Anyone can put in granite counters in the kitchen, so don't let expensive furnishings be the way in which you judge. Look at the craftsmanship, look at the core of the house. They are paying very close attention to detail. Inspect the plumbing, look at how they run the electrical wiring, bring a level with and see how level the floors are. THAT is the stuff that matters, not whether the house has brushed nickel door handles or not. Learn about construction techniques and then go take a close look. Notice that people who complain are usually talking about superficial things that don't reflect the core construction quality. Since Veridian owns all the lots in a given community, they can do things with drainage of water that builders in mixed ownership communities can't. Veridian can develop a community grading plan for the height of houses, and how rain water flows. Builders who buy individual lots can't do that, and this becomes a recipe for flooding, because the builder on one lot does not care about the next lot over, so they do bad grading, or selfish grading of the home and soil----and you, the person with the lot next door, ends up paying the price in terms of flooding. The construction manager we have is the nicest, most thorough most caring, most intelligent, wisest, and friendly guy. I genuinely feel that he is 100% on my side. He really wants to build the very best house possible. He really wants to show me that he can build better than a "custom" builder who charges much more and delivers much less. I consider my construction manager to be my friend, because he is honest, has integrity and has shown me that he cares. I found one small issue with our new home so far, and our construction manager went way out of his way to fix it..He went beyond fixing it...He over-engineered the solution. Even the foundation is over-engineered...Look at how deep their frost walls go...Look at the quality of the rocks they use for backfill of the patio. Much better than the plain dirt that most builders use. Before you insult Veridian, try to learn a bit about engineering and construction. If you do learn, you will see how they are going above and beyond to build a quality product which will last a long time, The people at Veridian all work very, very hard. It is not fair to pre-judge them. They are offering a superior product at a lower price than competitors. For that, we should all be grateful, not hateful. It is easy to insult people...It is much harder to be open minded and methodical in evaluation. read more

I've recently had a pretty disappointing experience with Veridian and I would not recommend anyone waste their time or energy on working with them to build a home. They seem to have internal politics and policies that are not buyer focused. The rep they assigned to me had a non customer-focused demeanor during my experience with him. He even copied me on a passive aggressive email directed to my realtor, it was purposeless and did not move us forward in a positive direction. Once the process was over (clearly did not work out) he had a phone conversation with me that was unprofessional and quite frankly made him seem too immature to have a client facing role. I was looking forward to working with Veridian and was truly excited to start the process. I am honestly disappointed to have had such a disjointed and negative experience. read more

I agree completely with the previous reviewer. This company claims to be all about customer service but once your home is done and you are outside of the initial warranty period, they are ghosts. No help whatsoever. You can't even get a live person on the phone to ask a question. They use subpar materials and really cut corners wherever they can. We built our home new about 7 years ago and things are failing that have no reason to fail after such a short period of time. read more

It is the first one or a step up like ours, is always a strenuous process but Veridian was there with a specialist each time to help walk us through the process. They have someone assigned as our buying agent, home specialist, design studio rep, and landscaping rep. I especially appreciate all of the walk throughout before closing/moving in to ensure the house is perfect, and the ability to notify Veridian via phone and web of any issues. We built our home in 2011 and absolutely LOVE our neighborhood. Secret Places McFarland offers a spacious walkway that extends the feel of our backyard. The people in this neighborhood are friendly and there is a great sense of community in Secret Places. As new home owners, we thought that for our price range Veridian offered us a 'move in ready' home that we got to customize and put our unique touches on. Instead of the DIY / renovations that we were looking at with existing homes in the area, Veridian was a smart choice because it came with the peace of mind of new appliances, energy efficient construction and the one year warranty. We also learned a lot about home ownership because throughout the construction process we were able to have several 'walk through' experiences and learn about the electrical, plumbing and the materials used for construction. We also receive home maintenance guides every season to help remind us of the important maintenance we should keep up on throughout the year. The selection process was a highlight in the home building process. The design studio is a one stop shop for all your selection needs, which was very convenient and saved us time. I enjoyed having samples of every selection that I could take home with me and think about. We were even given a list of existing homes with the colors and style we were thinking about so that we drive to those locations and see the full version to help us make our decision. The design studio is open on weekends as well, so we could take our time deciding. Lastly, the financial and promotional deals that Veridian offers were like icing on the cake for us. We moved from our apartment and had about 3 months left on the lease. Veridian has a lease liberation program that we took advantage of, so we didn't have to worry about double payments. Our monthly promotion that we took advantage of was free kitchen upgrades: Corian counter tops and sink and maple cabinets. Because the kitchen is the heart of the home, we feel so fortunate to have been given free upgrades in this part of the home and really make our kitchen a focal point of our home. Home ownership isn't perfect, and we have experienced a few learning bumps ourselves, but we have always had someone at Veridian that was willing and able to give us advice and point us in a good direction. Even last spring and summer, when our one year warranty had expired six months prior, we had Veridian employees helping us with questions about our sump pump. Overall I was (and continue to be) satisfied with our Veridian Homes experience and would highly recommend Veridian Homes to others. read more
