100% the worst Mexican food we've ever had. Husband ordered the lunch fajitas and it came out with a little piece of chicken and a couple of peppers. It wasn't even on a hot plate and they weren't mixed together wasn't even cut up and it was so little that he's still hungry when he left. I got the burrito supreme one chicken, one beef the beans that they use are disgusting. They're definitely out of a can. They're super runny and taste like mush. The chips were either cooked in very old nasty oil or they were stale beyond belief. They smelled when they set them down on the table. You are going to read reviews for this restaurant that say concerning things about the cheese dip - that it's "cold" "oddly sweet" and that it "tastes like miracle whip". Well, as a self proclaimed queso connoisseur, I'm here to set the record straight. The substance you see on the right in the black dish is NOT queso. It is cold, thick, and sweet (and tasty!) but it is not queso and is not called queso. It comes out with the other salsa and chips when you sit down. Reading the reviews, I was worried, but then it hit me: I've never been given free queso at a Mexican restaurant before, so why now? I ordered the queso on the menu, and lo and behold, the red dish is delivered to me. It IS queso. It tastes like queso. It has a great flavor, is just the right viscosity, mixes well with the rice. I ordered a shrimp quesadilla and had a very lovely meal with perfectly good queso. They definitely didn't hold back with the shrimp, and they were cooked perfectly. The meal was excellent and so was my service! My waiter was softspoken and very attentive, which was a wonderful change after spending my day with a room full of high schoolers. Disgusting! This place has plummeted in service, quality and taste. The waiter was not at all friendly and just walked up to the table and only said "are you ready?" The enchiladas came out with cold tortillas and a small bit of sauce. It had about a 1/2 teaspoon of cheese and the meat was all fat and gristle. I asked for more sauce after I had to track him down since he never came back. He brought a small bowl of green sauce that was spoiled and sour. Two of the three of us couldn't even eat the disgusting meals. After sitting for a long time waiting for him to return I finally caught his attention while flying by and asked for the check. Had the combo meal w/ two beef hard tacos w beans and rice, my friend got a beef chimichanga. Beef was like a corned beef hash, looked rare almost, not the regular ground beef the menu lists. My tacos were tasteless but soaked in grease. Only went here cause Carmelita's in Laurie was closed (so much better, deserves your business). Service was also less than favorable. We were not acknowledged at the door, neither were other guests. An older guy with the tattoos (worker) was visibly rude to a customer waiting. After we were seated, another guest asked if she could seat herself, he said nothing just passive aggressively stood in front of the "please wait to be seated sign" then walked away. I have worked in the service industry, I understand being busy and customers not always being the most understanding but the experience and service was absolutely horrible. To Hattie B, the expert. What is this? I ordered a side of guacamole. The server brought this soupy green stuff. We tried it. Four of us at the table. No one had ever seen this in a Mexican restaurant located in the US. The image was taken after 4 tries on chips. All agreed: not desirable. To the restaurant's credit the charge was removed (with an attitude). The cashier said it had something to do with keeping the guac from turning color. To us, that meant the stuff wasn't fresh. We had dinner here for the first time last night. I am normally not a fan of "authentic" Mexican food because what I have had in the past I have always thought was bland. This place surprised me and blew me away. The food was absolutely delicious & the salsa was amazing. Portion sizes were huge. Went their today and had the best lunch you could get. I had a Chili Relleno a Taco Rice and Beans. The service was great even though they were very busy. It is a nice place to go after work and just relax it is children friendly. It's right at 5 and 52. And it's not expensive for what you get. Disgusting. The waiter delivered Food to the wrong people. He told us we should have paid more attention it was our fault. Then when we ask for a refill He absolutely would ignore us. The restaurant was not busy at the time. We had just come from a funeral. We were all kind to him but he Continued to berate us, When he asked us what number on the menu that we ordered. We just told him what we ordered. We didn't know there was a number. He went on to say we were not paying attention, He said it rudely to more than one person in our group. Then he served the wrong food to somebody. And they were going to eat it anyway. And not complain after that. So while they were eating, he grabs the plate. Had dinner here while down at our cabin this weekend. Food was average- not bad, not the best I've had. I had a combo with an enchilada, taco and tostada, and my husband had fajitas. Well, the good news is that the food is decently good, not authentically Mexican of course, but as close as you're going to get in Mid-Missouri. The bad news is that the customer service is as unfriendly as many people say it is. Starting with the dude that greeted us at the host stand (he seemed to not understand what I was saying) to the man who brought our food out from the kitchen who seriously BARKED at us "Who got the fajitas? Who got the chicken?" Yikes! Really dude? Anyway, when you sit down at the table, you're given a decent bowl of thin, crispy tortilla chips and a bowl of salsa and some kind of "famous" white sauce. I should've known better when I was the only one who dove in, but our friends already knew what it tasted like and they waited to see the look on my face. All I can say is that is was one of the weirdest things I've ever tasted and it is NOT anything remotely Mexican. It's like a mix of Miracle Whip, ranch dressing and some weird herbs....F-. I posted several pics, the chile rellenos and enchiladas were covered in a thick, pasty, mole' (mo-lay) type sauce. As there are many different types of Mexican styles, this might be the style in central Mexico, but you wouldn't find anything like this in SoCal. Traditionally, chile rellenos are covered in a light, tomato sauce. The rice and beans were bland but unoffensive, the tortillas came wrapped in foil but the best part was my seafood fajita plate. Three of us ordered one of each, seafood, chicken and beef fajitas and I ordered mine with no green peppers. The other ladies scarfed their plates and I didn't leave a scrap on my plate. The cook was generous with the garlic and butter and my dish was A+. Keep in mind that the crab is really "krab" and the scallops were as big as peas, but the shrimp were a decent size and the entire dish was very tasty. The piece of Tilapia was browned and well seasoned. If anyone in the management department reads my humble review, PLEASE talk to your staff about their lack of customer service skills. I am Hispanic, and in SoCal our people are super friendly, they know that their customers are the reason they are in business. Just moving from California I was happy to see a Mexican place in town. It's about as authentic as Taco Bell and not as good The wait staff was attentive but certainly not that welcoming. I ordered a number one, which was two enchiladas and a taco with rice "or" beans. Now I do t know, this might be a mid west thing, but every single Mexican restaurant I've ever been to is rice "&" beans... just really odd. I'll start with the only decent thing, the chips. They are very light cantina style chips, and the salsa has a good taste, however it has all the spice of tomato ketchup. I literally couldn't handle more than two bites of the taco. The shell was alright, filled almost the the top with ground "Taco Bell" style meat. It was salty, greasy and bland. There was a dash of lettuce and a sprinkle of cheese. Again, maybe that's how tacos are done here, but nothing authentic about them. The enchiladas were so strange. I don't know what kind of cheese they use but it's almost a kraft plastic type consistency and has a bland and unusual taste. I gagged down half of one of the enchiladas before I called it quits. The sauce they use is greasy as well. Now I'm not sure if the sauce or the cheese is the big offender here, I think it's the sauce (I was trying to avoid the weird cheese) but it's actually got this sweet taste. I don't know how mid westerners eat their Mexican food... so maybe this is really tasty if you grew up on it, but for someone that has lived growing up with authentic Mexican food it was inedible. Normally good food while dining IN but with Covid we wanted to try take out option. We assumed they know to package food differently for "transport to home". Hot and Cold shouldn't be together and some items should be in different containers. My $15 shrimp special was placed in aluminum pan with beans etc and became a soupy mess - I should have called and complained but communication skills are lacking with restaurant mgmt. Once again, tonight they have surpassed our expectations. Fajitas Del Mar is an amazing blend of seafood (tilapia, shrimp, bay scallops & crab), cooked to perfection and at a great price. For the men, chow down on the large Burrito Caliente with steak. It is a huge burrito filled with white cheese, steak, and fries. The Carne Asada Tacos with a squeeze of lime on top are perfect if you just want something small and delicious. One of the few Mexican restaurants around that offers horchata also. Would have loved to share photos but we devoured the goods before I could snap a pic! On top of the great food, we have always enjoyed excellent service and our meals always arrive quickly. They brought me 2 enchiladas and a quesadilla and told me the 2 enchiladas were a burrito and an enchilada.
