Vera Katz Park is called a park but really is a walking path by the water--minimal greenery (like garden but the city planted large trees), but lots view of the city and those bridges. I think from one end of the entrance to the other side is about 1.5 miles.
If you're expecting a place to picnic or let your dog run around, then this is not the spot. But if you're into walking, biking, running or just catching a view of the river, it's actually a good path (san a handful of homeless sleeping on the benches). There is also a fire-station nearby.
There are a few interesting displays (plaques) and benches scattered along the path so you can sit. The Eastbank Esplanade connects right through here, so it's a popular spot for joggers and cyclists -- and we also walked across the Tillikum Bridge (again).
In general , the path is well-maintained, though, you will see a few unhoused individuals at underpasses. I've never felt unsafe...but probably will not come again as this is a "one and done" place. read more
