The Objective Review:
Head into main building to check in. If you made your reservation online, you'll need to email the concierge your confirmation right then and there. This is the same space where you'll find a mini-bar, right next to an outdoor area filled with dining tables and comfy couches. Get your room key and head to a building next door (elevator-accessible). One big bed, a desk and chair, a coffee station on top of a mini-fridge, some storage spots, and a super-mini-TV attached to the wall. Stand-up shower, where you'll probably bump your shoulders a bit. Your "window," if you're on the first floor, is a door that opens up to the outside walking area back to the main building. A few tiny tables with chairs out there as well.
Breakfast starts at 5 -- orange juice, croissant, etc. Our concierge (12am-8am shift) asked what we wanted and then supplied it, as opposed to a sort of buffet format. Airport shuttle starts at 5am as well, running every 15 minutes. 15 Euro for 2 people. You'll also have to pay a City Tax, which you can Google about for Italy travel.
The Subjective Review:
Very much so a 3-star place. The first concierge was personality-less, the second was friendly but strict (we wanted to eat our takeout dinner from another place in their patio area, and they asked us to move... even though no one was around and their dinner hadn't yet started). The morning concierge was hilarious and bubbly, and the shuttle driver was professional and nice.
As you may read from other reviews, the biggest issue is the internet. You'll sign in, and then it prompts you to type in their Password (Venice2013), and then nothing happens. You press Enter, and the website just sits there. I found that if you exit this page, and then fuddle around with your phone enough, the internet becomes active. Whether you ironically choose the "Run Without Internet" option, or turn off your WiFi and then back on again. It lasted long enough for us to look at a map and make travel plans, but don't rely on it all night. As for the shower... it's not THAT small, but you definitely can't stretch your arms out from side-to-side. It runs from floor to ceiling, and the water pressure was so strong it feels like a waterfall on your head... if you like that sort of thing?
Otherwise, it's exactly what you need if you're waiting a night before heading to the airport. The day of, we were able to nab the #5 bus from Venice's Island very easily to this place, and the next morning the shuttle got us to the airport within 5 minutes. Easy peasy.
It's a no-brainer: if you prefer to be pampered, there's a Marriott one minute away. Otherwise, and especially if this is the cheapest option, you should nab it. read more
