As well as branded stuff, like their range of Moomin bags, pencil cases, purses and cuddly toys (which, incidentally, I find VERY freaky) and the obligatory 'Keep Calm and Carry On' merchandise that's absolutely everywhere at the moment, they've also got lots of quirky, novelty bits. My current favourites are a pair of wind-up robot salt and pepper shakers necessary? Not in the slightest. Hilarious? Totally. They epitomise the entire point of this shop funny, largely pointless and utterly brilliant.

I love this shop!…read more It's full of weird, random and quirky bits and bobs, and it is usually my first port of call when I am looking to buy a gift or present for someone. If you're a cat lover you are in for a treat, as there are plenty of cat related items in the shop, from lamps, to nail stickers and mugs! I spend a good ten minutes laughing out loud at a book of pigeons that was in there (who knew some pigeons could look so bizarre!? I probably should have bought the book; I'm laughing to myself about the pigeons now). There really is so much stuff in there, that you would have to spend an age in there to see everything. There are bits and pieces crammed into every corner of the store! My only qualm is that because everything is piled everywhere, there is not a lot of room to move! If there are more than 3 people in the shop or you are carrying a few shopping bags, you aren't going to last long in there.

Batteries, photo frames, clocks, toys, can openers, torches, cigarette tins! Yellow Shop is a place you go not knowing what you want to come out with, and its owner knows that, feeling happier than most at you having a browse about without buying anything. He seemed quite the friendly sort of guy, and busied himself with a bit of casual tuneful whistling while helping with a customers order. The funny little shop didn't exactly make me fall in love with it, but its fun design and eclectic collection of products means I wouldn't be adverse to going again. And if I need to by mains adaptors, I'll know where to go!

Situated about halfway down Kensington Gardens, it's charming boutique store that has lovely side tables, console tables, room dividers, fringe panels, floor lamps, table lamps, pigeon lights, marimekko fabrics, wall stickers, mirrors and luxury bedding. If you already have everything you need in the lounge and bedroom department, they also sell gorgeous kitchen and bath accessories from china, glasses, tea-pots and coasters to candles, soaps and towels. Don't know if they still have any in stock, but last time I went in I fell in love with the wicker bulls head and the Ibride ostrich console table.

They also sell small items of furniture, including some really classy wooden side tables and stools. Christmas is by far the best time to visit the store, as they have all sorts of beautiful decorations for your tree. They have a gorgeous selection, including gold Christmas trees and stars as well as some really beautiful glass decorations in the shape of parrots and other pretty birds. I bought a few last year in turquoise, white and gold and they really transformed my tree! In fact, they're so lovely that I've hung them up in my bedroom all year. Abode is a shop full of things you'd rarely buy yourself...quirky light fittings, gilded bird cages and some really delicate chinaware. It is almost impossible to walk around without starting a mental wish-list, making it the perfect place to start your Christmas list, whilst picking up a few gifts yourself! You can even create your wedding list at Abode! NB. Everything feels a bit delicate, so it's not a great place to bring the kids!

The messages displayed on the greetings cards are rather (ahem) rude and most of the gifts are DISTINCTLY adult. If you get what I mean. While it's fun to wander about and see all the little kitchy things and marvel at all the neat-o designs, I do find the prices to be a little out of whack. I had the pleasure of going into one of these shops while in Paris (the chain was founded in Paris, after all), but felt the merchandise there included a few things (some of which I actually purchased) that were unique and high enough quality to warrant a little greater outlay. Here, however, most of the goods were plastic and just didn't look as though they'd survive the tests of time. I had wanted to get a few kid gifts before heading back to the states, but sadly I just couldn't reckon quality and value sufficiently to get them anything from here. Definitely worth a look around, though, it's a fun little shop with fun little things!
