Chocolate Cookie Sandwich from Sunflower Baking

Crowded competitive parking, yes. Long lines, yes. But I had a much better time at VegFest than I did two month's ago at Vegan Street Fair. My three biggest reasons are: 1) the layout of vendors in this spacious park gave much more breathing room 2) lots of tables, chairs, grassy spaces for picnic blankets, and trees for shade 3) I left an hour before the festival ended and I was so full that I couldn't eat another bite for the rest of the evening! (...except for half a chocolate cookie sandwich because hello!?! Cookie sandwich!) Here's a list of vegan goodies the Meateater BF and I had: - Mini Tofu Poppers with Cilantro Ranch at AFC Soy Foods http://bit.ly/1pXvRlD - Mini Tofu Poppers with Pesto Aioli at AFC Soy Foods http://bit.ly/1SI4Uy3 - Curry Tofu Plate at Strictly Vegan Jamaican Cuisine http://bit.ly/1rPGMzz - Funnel Cake at Scandylous Delights http://bit.ly/24kUgVi - Avocado Chocolate Shake at Scandylous Delights - The Boom at Greenspan's Grilled Cheese http://bit.ly/1rfYbAF The ones with the most wow factor were the funnel cake, avo-chocolate shake, and the grilled cheese sandwich made with Chao Cheese, grilled mushrooms, and arugula on rye. Most anticlimactic dish was the curry tofu. Not that it wasn't good, because it was good. It just wasn't "wait an hour in line" good. What I was really happy with was the amount of legit freebies we walked away with! - Coconut Soy Pudding from AFC Soy Foods http://bit.ly/24uOWLG - Breakfast Quesadilla made with VeganEgg from Follow Your Heart http://bit.ly/1NiN7NA - a spatula from Follow your Heart - Cool Cups Gelatin-Free Gels http://bit.ly/1rfY1JB - GoMacro Mini Macrobars http://bit.ly/1SJP02w - Sambazon Acai Bowls and Energy Drinks http://bit.ly/24uP11I - a Blender Bottle from Nutrasumma protein powder http://bit.ly/24uP1Pi Coupons can be like gold! Especially since we got several $1 off coupons for Follow Your Heart products! #veganonabudget Lastly, we purchased the following tasty treats to take home: - S'mores Deluxe Brownie from Charlie's Brownies http://bit.ly/1SVE9oq - Chocolate Cookie Sandwich from Sunflower Baking http://bit.ly/1SJP3vk - Snickerdoodle Cookie Sandwich from Sunflower Baking BTW, the Chocolate Cookie Sandwich from Sunflower Baking was like OMG YUM! So was the S'mores brownie from Charlie's Brownies. I'm not gonna lie, I got a bit star struck when I met Charlie of Charlie's Brownies! #vegancelebrity As for the non-food vendors, I didn't get a chance to visit them. Is it obvious that my intent for attending was purely driven by appetite? ;P Overall, great day at the park! Free vegan-friendly event, live music, and it helped that there was good weather too. Pro tip: Save yourself from a headache. Park your car in a nearby public lot or parking structure then take an uber to the event. That's what we did! :) ...although this tip might be moot since I heard a rumor that this event won't take place at this same park next year :/

Vegfest is my favorite time of year! I love how they throw it at a park and have so many vegan vendors. Super spacious. They have so many delicious options, guest speakers, and samples that you can try. It's people coming to celebrate and eat tasty food and that's what I truly love about vegfest. Admission is FREE. There is plenty of parking. I prefer to just take the metro to save gas. But parking is great. I'm so excited this will be my second year attending vegfest. I keep up with all their vendors through Instagram. Can't wait to eat delicious food and see all the guest speakers !

This is an amazing festival and everyone should go. It's free. There is $10 close parking or free street parking. There are tons of vendors selling awesome food and lots of free samples. The future of food is plants. Save the animals. www.ForGoodnessSeyks.com IG: www.instagram.com/ForGoodnessSeyks IG: www.instagram.com/ForGoodnessSeyks_Foodie

Awesome event geared toward Vegan/Veggie lovers. 100+ Vendors and stages. I discovered this event on Facebook and my wanting to increases the amount of fresh LIVE foods in my diet. It's a crowded event so be sure to come early and it's FREE so no excuse not to come and see what meat, dairy and animal products ALTERNATIVES are available. Lines for food tend to be loooooooong so bring snacks and plan to wait a bit. Other than that... Go VEG yourself today!

hope you're not too hungry...loooong lines.

Very unorganized event. What should have been a great day with like-minded people ended up being very unpleasant. For starters, would it have been so hard to provide DETAILED directions and parking info? The website and FB page said to go to Woodley Park in Lake Balboa. What it doesn't say is this park is HUGE and must cover hundreds of acres. We found Woodley Park easily, then we parked and walked for an hour and still couldn't find the entrance. We went back to our car, drove around some more, saw the event and parked again. All good, right? Nope. Then we walked for another hour before we found out there was a secret tunnel you had to walk through to get to the fest. Unreal. Finally got to the fest and stood in line over an hour for some water. Stood in another line for a place that ran out of food. People were pretty ticked off. I saw a volunteer from a rescue group literally dragging some poor dog who was obviously overheated. I stopped her and gave the dog the water I had stood in line an hour for. Some of the speakers were kind of downers. That didn't help the overall vibe. I was glad to see such a large turnout for a vegan event but we left there tired, thirsty and hungry. We finally went to find something to eat at a nearby Whole Foods. Pretty sad. Hopefully some folks here went vegan, many just went hungry. Completely unorganized in every way, with no thought or consideration for festival attendees.. I will not attend this event again. My experience was really ZERO stars but I'll give it 2 stars just for being vegan.

After going to Vegfest LA, Vegan Street Fair (+ Night), & Socal Vegfest several times over, this is the best venue/event to attend because it's huge, enough free street parking, and no entrance fee. Come before 12 and you don't even need a fast pass to be honest, because the lines at popular places don't take longer than 10-15 min. ;) Don'ts: ... believe every hype, it's best to actually yelp up the food truck or establishment because social media over hypes a lot of them. ... Get frustrated over the long lines. You can buy fast passes, or visit the actual restaurants themselves. Most of these vendors are locals, so it's not the end of the world. Dos: ... Bring a tote bag (unless you plan to buy their swag bag) to carry little freebies ... Bring a reusable water bottle to refill water at one of the booths ... Bring Tupperware for leftovers if you tend to over purchase The Amazing - * Cena vegan 4.5/5 * Veganitos 5/5 * Cocobella 4/5 The Good - * Falasophy 3.5/5 * Pooshie Indian Food 3.5/5 * Acai Bowls (any variety) 3.5/5 The Meh - * Donut Farm/Friend 2.5-3 (both! Most will disagree, but I think it's way too sweet and they don't have simple yeast donuts. All sweet cakes-kind with crazy toppings to compensate) * Southern Fried Vegan 2-4 (when it's done well, it's great. But 2/3 times, it has been underwhelming for me (soggy chicken, or under seasoned/ half effort products. Plus they're pricey and their lines are always long) * Wokaholics 3/5 (People are just hyped about the size and colored skin. It's just alright and expensive for what it is) * "Cronuts" & "Dip n dots" (I can't remember where they're from; they weren't here this year, but it's not worth it nor is it good * Burgerlords (might just be found at Vegan street fair, but all these places have similar vendors, sometimes they change it up so I'm just going to mention it anyways. Their patties are bland and greesy. The Animal fries was also sub par. Try their actual location in Chinatown for a better experience) Miscellaneous: only service animals allowed + they have atms, but most will take card. Tons of speakers and performances going on at their little stage, plus a beer garden and kiddie area as well. The bf and I had a great time as, mainly because I knew to get here early, where to park, and what was worth getting. :) Happy Eatings! = PARKING= Avoid the lot; park residential or along the golf park

I absolutely love vegfest. There is so many food choices. I love being able to try things from different vendors. I have 0 complaints. Expect lines to get food but I see no reason to complain about that it is still such a great event. You can see talks or even do yoga. They also have non food shopping you can do at vendors that come to sell their products. I can't say what my favorite thing was there it was all really amazing.

What a great event. Had so much fun and met some amazing peeps. Great food, informative booths and gifts. Make sure you show up early and be mindful of the parking. Was the only drawback to the day was the staff parking cars. They tried parking another car so close, neither of us could get out of our cars. We ignored his direction, used some common sense and parked on our own.

I saw that Jin N. checked in there on Saturday and dropped him a quick note asking how it was. He replied back with his recommendation that it was worth going to so we made the trip down. The event was scheduled to start at 11:30 and we found street parking a block away about 5 minutes after that. I was completely fearing the worst with the crowds and as we walked into the lot, there was maybe 30-40 other people there. Even when we left at 12:45 would have to say the worst line was 10 deep at the most and the majority of the trucks had lines that were 2 or 3 people deep. The trucks were set up in a "U" around the parking lot with lots of room and tables. There were a few trucks there that I had never seen before and really liked that we were able to talk with the owners. They loved the fact that my daughter was taking an interest in food and asked what we liked, didn't like and what we looked for when going to a truck. It felt like they were honestly looking for feedback instead of just having to throw something out the window to keep the lines mooving (get it, like a cattle call??) The crew from Wholly Rollers did a great job circulating to see that everyone was having a great experience which they should get kudos for! My only regret is that I didn't head down on Friday and Saturday nights as well!!! The next time they have an event, I'll be there as this is how a food truck festival should be set up and run!

[November 12th event]…read more First off, I just want to say that this was a really great experience. Props to Wholly Rollers Events for putting on a successful street food fest!! I missed the first event last month mainly by choice because I didn't eat so well the previous week so I figured it would be a bad idea to end it with more less than healthy food. My wife and I made it out to this one intending to limit ourselves to mostly small bites. We rolled up at about 7pm Friday and easily found valet parking right next door for $2. Even before we stepped into the parking lot, we could sense it was just the right atmosphere for gourmet food truck fans. Trucks were lined up on either side and at the end of the space with plenty of tables and chairs in the middle. DJ Kino was spinning good tunes. We noticed all walks of life there...from young, hip 20-somethings to families with young kids. Security guards kept things in order and the clean-up crew was very attentive making sure trash cans did not overflow and tables were wiped down. Now, onto the food... Shrimp Pimp: 2 drunken shrimp tacos -- sherry ginger marinated shrimp sauteed and served with, I believe, pickled jicama and carrots on 2 tortillas. Verdict: 2.5 stars (out of 5). They were just okay. Didn't really taste a lot of marinade in the shrimp. Thought the tortillas could've been quick-grilled for a little more flavor. I have to say I was expecting this truck would have at least 1 Hawaiian-style garlic shrimp over steamed rice dish. I think that would round out the menu a bit. The Guinness-marinated shrimp & chips looked really tasty though. Patty Wagon: 2 "Shine On Harvest Moon" sliders -- a ground beef burger with Havarti cheese, warm bacon/cabbage/leek slaw, slice of pink lady apple, bit of mayo with homemade pickle on a toasted roll. Verdict: 5 stars. Delicious! Great grubbing food. I had mine w/out the apple since I'm allergic to raw apples. I could taste pretty much every ingredient. The grass-fed ground beef reminded me of beef I had on a trip to Ireland where they have some of the best in the world. It was perfectly-cooked and juicy. The roll had just the right crispy crust while still pillow-soft in the middle. Willoughby Road: Twice fried chicken w/grilled watermelon and side of creamy mac & cheese. Verdict: 3 stars. Chicken was greasier than I'm used to. The batter had a slightly sweet flavor w/a bit of a kick. The chicken meat itself was fairly juicy and not dry. I don't normally care for watermelon but grilling it enhances the flavor. I liked it. The mac & cheese was less than impressive. The consistency was pretty good but the flavor was lacking. I tasted more of the pasta itself than cheese. The Street Hawker (Singaporean): Fried rice w/shrimp, carrots, peas, onions, a bit of scrambled egg and topped with cilantro and red chili pepper. Verdict: 4 stars. Full of flavor! I couldn't totally place the seasoning. There was definitely soy sauce but I couldn't tell what else. It was slightly smokey. The color was a rich, dark brown. The rice was not quite sticky like most places which actually was just fine. I must mention we asked to make it not so spicy so I'm not sure how spicy it normally is. Good portion for $8. We wanted to eat it all but we saved half for tomorrow. Ahn-Joo (Korean): 3 small, grilled skewers of ginger & soy marinated beef w/cherry tomatoes. Verdict: 4 stars. Great flavor! The tomatoes complemented the beef perfectly. A few of the beef pieces were a tiny bit chewy--seemed to have a bit more fat. Other than that, great snack! Mango Tango: Peach Italian ice. Verdict: 5 stars. Texture was just right. Actual peach chunks. If it wasn't too chilly I would've eaten it up within 10 minutes. Generous portion for a small size ($4). My wife also had a grilled Nutella bhang w/berries from Ahn-Joo which I did not taste. It's basically a grilled Nutella sandwich w/fresh berries sprinkled with powdered sugar. Looked tasty! Again, I felt like the event was put together pretty well. Everyone seemed satisfied (except for one older lady in front of us at the Shrimp Pimp who had apparently asked for something not spicy but it was still too spicy for her. She later apologized for complaining and the truck manager made sure she was satisfied). I forgot to mention the large projected designs (one for Wholly Rollers, the other snowflakes) on the side of a tall office building next door. Classy! Plenty of seating for everyone. The DJ didn't play dancy, pop music all night. He actually threw in some good mainstream rock songs too which was a nice change. Great job Wholly Rollers!! Looking forward to the next one. This should be a WEEKLY thing like The Brig in Venice!!
