Great experience, everyone was so kind. Loved that we were able to stay with our dog during procedures.

Veterinary Emergency Service West - Izzo

Veterinary Emergency Service West

This is the kind of place that you wish you'll never have to go to, and that you're so grateful…read moreit's there. My 12 year old brittany had a procedure that makes him susceptible to pneumonia. Sure enough, when I got home from work last Friday, my baby wasn't eating, was lethargic, and had a temperature. Knowing pneumonia can get life-threatening really quick, I took him to the Emergency Service West. X-rays and bloodwork confirmed my amateur diagnosis. I was given the option to keep Reno there, or to send him home with antibiotics. Given that he was stable, and not struggling to breathe, the veterinarian counseled that recovery at home was a viable option. I am happy to report that the next day, Reno had returned to his old self. We are continuing the antibiotics, and will see his regular vet in a week, but I expect he will make a full recovery. Yes, Veterinary Emergency Service West was expensive. However, had I not taken him, it is very likely Reno would have gotten worse while I waited to see his regular vet, and then may have needed hospitalization. I am so happy they are there!

We called here desperately looking for someone to do a splenectomy on my small dog before time ran…read moreout but we had limited financial resources. This place quoted up an estimate of $4500-$6500 so we quickly rushed over there. The total ended up being around $7000 for the surgery but were advised not to do the surgery. They stated they were taking my dog back for vitals but put a cone on him and did many other things without our permission, caused him a lot of distress in his final moments (he pooped all over nervously which would have been better if we could be with him). The surgeon when telling us the sad news that we'd need to put him down wasn't just blunt or "telling us the worst case scenario," she was overdramatizing it and genuinely cruel with her wording. I understanding needing to tell someone that it really is the best option to put down your dog, but there is are better ways than to tell them that he's probably going to go into cardiac arrest (which is incredibly rare) and that he only had a 20% chance it wasn't cancerous (it's closer to 30%-35%). She spoke really fast and was very gruesome with details that weren't necessary to share. The other nurse was much more realistic and told us that he would probably be just fine through surgery but because it's most likely cancerous, it would most likely be his last few months and he would probably be in pain when he could find comfort today through eternal rest. Vet Katie, who arrived on shift later right before we put him down, was incredibly kind, patient, and understanding. She allowed us to take as much time as we needed and even went the extra mile and found us an ink pad and paper to get a paw print with (they had stopped doing that through there a while ago). She comforted us with her words and could understand our pain with the recent passing of her dog at home. I really appreciated her and I hope she knows the positive impact she had in that situation. The only reason why this place gets stars is for her. Rest well, my baby Jack I miss you everyday. He was my everything.

They have a quiet room to say goodbye to your pet. Very much looks like a living room. They give you all the time you need. I even noticed one of the doctors' eyes were wet when she came in to do the pre-shot they give. This shows me that they care about their patients. They also have someone that works through the hospital that will come to your home to put your animal to sleep if that is what you choose. My daughter had that done for her cat and was very pleased on how things were handled. She got to lay next to her kitty petting her while she passed quietly. That meant a lot to her. We also received a very nice sympathy card that everyone in the hospital personally signed. Little things like that mean so much after losing a pet. Now, on a happier side of things. We have also had very sick pets that we have taken there, and they were taken care of quickly and because of them we were able to take our pets back home with us. I hope we don't have to come here again but if we have an emergency, we will be back

The caregivers fed & watered them and scooped the kitty litter with every visit. They took pictures of our babies with each visit, and reported how things went while we were gone. More than that, our house was well secured! The caregivers turned on/off lights as needed, turned our blinds open and closed, picked up our mail, and brought in delivered packages. Most importantly, our cats and house were in tact when we came home. We were so happy to return and find that the cats were fine and the house was as we left it. We will definitely use Bloomfield Pet Care in the future to care for our cats and secure our home. This service is top-notch and very reasonably priced. We highly recommend this business for anyone who has to leave their pets home alone. Bloomfield Pet Care is the best! 5 stars, Definitely!

Definitely recommend!

Our 17 year old cat Lilly had been diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago. She was doing OK…read moreuntil four or five months ago when she started to decline more rapidly. We took her to the vet again who told us that Lilly had a tumor near her bladder. In the last couple weeks she declined even more and was not eating or drinking very much and had vomited bile a couple times. We took her to the vet again who said she was dehydrated and recommended that we bring her to AEC for treatment. When we got to AEC, they developed a treatment plan for IV fluids and the first step was bloodwork. We were hopeful that Lilly would improve with IV fluids and we would be able to take her home. Sadly, the bloodwork showed that IV fluids were not a viable path given Lilly's condition and that there were no other treatment options. We wanted to take her home, but the doctor advised against that because it would prolong Lilly's suffering. At the doctor's recommendation, we made the excruciating decision to put Lilly down. Although this experience was devastating and traumatizing for us, we can't say enough good things about AEC, from the front desk staff to the vet techs to the doctor. Everyone was so sincerely compassionate and caring and empathetic. Dr. Brink, was outstanding. She gave a detailed explanation of Lilly's condition and the blood test results. We were very impressed by her clinical knowledge and expertise and are very grateful that Lilly was in her care. We appreciated her genuine compassion. About a week after we were there, we received a lovely card signed by each staff member with individual personal notes expressing sympathy for the loss of Lilly. We are so touched by this gesture and have the card displayed on a shelf in our living room with other keepsake items and pictures of Lilly. We strongly recommend AEC if your pet needs care. Even though we lost Lilly, we do take comfort in knowing that we brought her to a place where she was cared for as well as possible in the last hours of her life by such an excellent team.

They don't take advantage of grief like others local places seem to do. Most of the time, I just had the service that the vet office used, but when the price was around $500 was quoted when I made the appointment for Oscar, I decided that I had time to look around because I had a few days. I found them and they were local so I called them after seeing their website and the prices. I got someone who had lost their beloved pet and got into the business because of the charges other charge. I let them know who Oscar's vet was and they told me that they have picked up from them before. The vet office had no problem and since I had to go in after work, they could pick Oscar up quickly. I picked up the ashes but they will deliver them also. You can even drop off your pet. They explained everything and even made extra copies of nose print and paws prints for Oscar's other mom. All for just under $200. Since I just adopted a 17 year old cat, I will probably need their services again. I will use them gladly.

In 2017, we brought in our male cat (2 years old at the time) who had a blockage due to urinary crystals, and this week we had to take in our 8 year old female dog who had a blockage from multiple bladder stones. They were able to clear our cat by just flushing, no surgery, but our dog required surgery to remove the stones. In both cases, my pets had to be monitored overnight, and in both cases my wife and I were absolutely blown away by the quality of care and the deep compassion of the doctors and nurses. Everyone is incredibly caring, and provides each pet and pet parent with individual attention no matter how busy they are. The check-in process is very thorough and they gather as much information as possible. The diagnostics and testing are done successively, meaning that they won't just do everything on a checklist all at once and dump you with a huge bill. They work one step at a time to narrow down the care required so that you only pay for the least amount required for your pet's condition. I feel that they are extremely transparent with their billing process, you do have to pay up front, but if they overcharge someone they are honest and will do a refund for the services not performed. This morning when we picked up our dog we ended up getting a partial refund, and I believe they are very honest with the charges. VES is open 24/7 and is happy to receive calls at any hour regarding updates on your pet's progress and condition. The discharge instructions were very clear for us, and they took the time to go over everything, all the results and instructions and answered every question we had, without making us feel rushed. They provided all prescriptions, including a case of prescription food, so that we were fully set up for a couple weeks when we walked out the door. I also just noticed that they trimmed my dogs nails while she was there! They provided paper instructions and receipts, but also emailed me the same results AND the x-rays, and automatically sent everything over to our normal vet. Our male cat luckily hasn't had a single issue with a blockage since switching his food, and our female dog seems to be healing well and is currently resting. If you are in the local area, I will recommend Veterinary Emergency Service over any other emergency care. They have saved the life of two of our pets, and my family will forever treasure the additional years we get to have with both of them now.

Emergency services... When they get around to it…read more Luckily when we took our pet in here it wasn't an emergency, just a concern about incredibly runny stool for multiple days after her spay. Sat in an overly crowded parking lot for 3 hours waiting to be seen. Then an additional hour for a standard wellness check. The floor is really dirty inside with blood and other things from other pets. Someone needs to be cleaning that floor regularly. When we got brought into the lobby, we had to wait another fifteen minutes and it was so difficult to hold our dog from licking random things that could get her sick. The bill for a simple health check? $150 and would have been close to $1000 if they didn't call us while we were sitting out in the car to say that they wanted to do xrays, stool sample, and give her a bunch of medication. We left with no additional information that we didn't already Google. Don't bother with this place. It's falling apart and can't handle the stream of sick pets in the area. This needs to be a much bigger building with a bigger staff. And the prices here are absolutely outrageous.
