The team at Saint Paul's truly cares--not just about the pets, but about the people who love them. I've had one of my cats undergo surgery there, and more recently, my boy (a dog) had a seizure. I was in complete panic mode, barely holding it together. But even the other customers were kind and supportive, helping me get inside. Once I was in, the staff gave my dog--and me--the time, attention, and compassion we desperately needed. They treated us with nothing but love and care. Even though they don't take appointments and operate on a call-ahead, walk-in basis, they are 100% worth the wait. I highly recommend this vet clinic. I brought my cat Zane to this clinic for what should have been a standard visit and mentioned a…read moreskin concern. He was prescribed a topical foam medication for a skin. When I got home and applied it, Zane naturally licked it off his fur, which is what any cat would do. Within days he was coughing and gagging severely. I called the after-hours emergency vet and was told that any amount of this foam is toxic to a cat's esophagus and intestines. The ER vet also said I should never have been sent home without a cone for this type of medication. And to call the vet that I originally went to for skin condition during business hours and he also said it's unsafe for animals to digest and how harmful the medication is if licked and the damage it would do to him. I went back to this clinic for a follow-up, I trusted them. I thought they had Zane's best interest at heart. They gave him another exam. In that visit they watched him, and told me he didn't display the same problem for them. I openly told her Zane groom himself after I applied the foam because I didn't know it was harmful. I was honest about what happened from what I knew the day I was prescribed the foam and that a cone was needed for this type of medicine before I left that office. I never put the foam on him again and never planned to. I was advocating for Zane's health. The vet kept sweeping the foam under the rug entirely. She also told me "it wasn't harmful, that he could have licked a whole bowl of it and he would been fine." She downplayed the chemical reaction it causes in animals, even though the ER vet and the second opinion vet both concluded it was a chemical burn on his esophagus. She deflected blame, suggesting hairballs, a Nerf gun pellet, debris on the floor, anything but the medication she prescribed without the Cone as if to imply I was being negligent with the cat at home . My husband, Cliff, could feel swelling in Zane's throat when he held him. the vet took him behind closed doors for the exam and came back telling us he was fine. She then began raising alarming possibilities like kidney failure, renal failure, and liver disease, pushing for expensive X-rays and tests. We later learned from both an emergency vet and a second opinion vet that those procedures were not necessary, and that what Zane actually had was a chemical burn on his esophagus caused by licking the foam medication. Both outside vets confirmed the swelling that Cliff had felt with his own hands, the same swelling this clinic said wasn't there. Then I read the medical records this clinic sent to my new vet. They are inaccurate and misleading. The records claim the vet advised using a cone and that I declined(in the first visit ) which is the opposite of what happened. The records say the vet advised against using the formula without the cone and that I said I would leave and still use it, which I never said. The records include false diagnoses of kidney failure, renal failure, and liver disease, making it look like I was denying necessary care, when the second vet confirmed those procedures were not needed. The records also state "owner loves lilies" after an innocent conversation where I explicitly said I avoid lilies because they are toxic to cats. The flowers in my home were roses. This was twisted to suggest another possible cause of negligence on my part or other alternative possibility of to the gagging . The records sent over contained false information. These records traveled to my new vet before I ever met her. If I hadn't spoken up first, every word I said would have been filtered through a false narrative built by this clinic. I could have been labeled a difficult, noncompliant owner before I opened my mouth, and my cat's care could have been compromised by diagnoses that were never real. They included inaccurate diagnoses, a misleading voice transcript that doesn't match what was actually said, and notes claiming we turned down an e-collar and disagreed with medical advice, which is not true. They also claimed they told us to watch Zane for 10 minutes after applying the foam. That never happened . The records also show that I received care through the Angel Fund, a charity program, I had every intention of paying for my cat's care. They wrote it off so I wouldn't question the visit, because she knew she didn't warn me of the danger of applying the medication without an E-Coller. Or let me know I needed to get him one. I believe that horrible to me that this vet would use a charity program to hide your own mistakes and then document it to make the pet owner look negligence. I believe the free service was offered to cover their own mistakes. I want to be clear about why I'm writing this. Zane is not just a pet to us. He is a family member. When you take a family member to a vet you expect honest summary of your visits and accountability.

The check-in process is smooth and efficient, and the techs and doctors are consistently friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. One staff member sometimes even sings to our dog Pico during visits--it's the sweetest gesture and helps calm him down. Most recently, we brought in our 14-year-old Yorkie-Poo who was struggling with allergies and some breathing issues. Dr. Joyce was helpful, patient, and thorough. With an antibiotic injection and some allergy medication to take home, she's now doing much better. We're so grateful for the compassionate and expert care our pets receive at SAH.

This review is my opinion of my experience, and my best recollection of the events. I would not…read morerecommend this veterinary clinic to anyone after my recent experience with this team. Because this will be a long review and some might not want to read it all, the short and sweet: IN MY OPINION, they: #1 - Charge excessive costs for procedures. #2 - Have very poor communication and emotional intelligence to understand the experience of the pet and family #3 - Provide unnecessary testing and pressure to make the most amount of money they can off of the concerned owner. #4 - Treatment for a misdiagnosis and lack of empathy for the out of pocket money that it cost my family. #5 - Extremely rude and unsympathetic to my personal situation once I declined their proposed treatment plan. BOTTOM LINE: Symptom - 9 year old dog suddenly starts peeing in the house. Treatment plan at Cudahy vet clinic: Visit #1 - 300.00+ for first visit and Arthritis meds and rabies vaccination. Visit #2 - 700.00+ for 2nd sitting visit, Urine, Blood, Heartworm test etc. Police called on me less than 30 min after declining and leaving the office in frustration and not paying my second sitting bill. Treatment at another neighborhood clinic Visit #1 - 259.00 First visit, Blood and urine. Complicated diabetic diagnosis. A 3 out of 6 heart murmur. Out of respect for the good employees, impacted by my negative experience, I will start this off by stating there are some aspects which were exceptional. #1 - The receptionist was amazing. Kind to me as I was going through it. She might have been the only kind face I saw during this ordeal. I am thankful to her. As for Mr and Mrs Shampo - yikes. I brought my dog to this clinic, as we have for years. I will admit that I am not the kind of owner that constantly brings my dog to the vet. I come when there is something wrong. Just like I do for myself and the doctor. I do not go just to go. My dog had recently started having accidents in the house, after never having an accident in the house in the 9 years previous. We wanted blood and urine work, as I thought it was something related to his kidneys. Dr Shampo believed it to be arthritis, or at least he said that is his belief, and sent my wife home with a 300.00 + bill and some arthritis medication. Very interesting diagnosis for a dog peeing in the house, but he is the "expert". Fast forward a week and my dog is still peeing in the house. This time I decide to take the dog myself. I tell him that I know my dog better than him, respectfully, as I spend all my days with him. I tell him it isn't arthritis, as he pees all day every day on every scent he finds outside, and his leg isn't keeping him from peeing. I want blood and urine checked. They come to me with a list of items that they want to check on my dog, heartworm, blood, urine (withdrawn from his bladder via a procedure), etc. 700.00+ in total costs. Included in this bill is a second office visit charge. Its Christmas, I have kids, and quite honestly, it's a ton of money. My jaw drops, I ask why blood and urine wasn't tested the first time and his answer is that he was trying to spend the least amount of my money as possible. I was angry and in shock at the bill. I state that I feel like they are trying to sell me a car warranty and that I would go to a different vet, and I leave. My dog is going through it and I feel like he is dying, and the vet is trying to treat for arthritis and rule out heart worm? I walk out the door frustrated and call a different vet, in the same area of the city, who is able to not only see my dog, but also complete the blood work and urinalysis for 259.00. Within 30 minutes of leaving, they have the police calling me and insisting that I come back to pay my bill as they saw me and need to be compensated. They called the POLICE! I am stressed about my dog, left out of frustration, and they got called out trying to rip me off and didn't like it. I came back to the office and paid my bill. I then requested my dogs records and they make me pay an additional 30.00 PER DOG for the records. Needless to say we did not leave on friendly terms. I finally got my records 3-4 days after, which if you ask any other vet in the city, that is almost unheard of, and they do not charge you for the records. They will tell you that those records, they are costs built into the office visit charges. The other vet, in a matter of an hour, AFTER LISTENING TO ME AS THE OWNER, taking my dog outside and catching his urine manually, determined for 259.00 that the reason my dog is peeing in the house is he has complicated diabetes and needs insulin medication to be treated. I see many elderly people taking their dogs to this vet and it pains me that they probably do not have the technical skills to read online reviews and as a result will likely continue to be taken advantage of by this vet.
