Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco - The most beautiful perfect room

    Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco

Castiglion del Bosco (CdB) is the most majestic property I've ever stayed at-- I couldn't even…read moreimagine this kind of vision. It's no surprise CdB is consistently ranked among the top hotels in the world (#1 in the world by Travel + Leisure in 2022). The service and staff are unparalleled. The views are breathtaking no matter where you are onsite, especially waking up to it if you have a patio. PRICE: For the most cost-efficient room, rates run at €4,000 per night. DINING: There are only two sit-down dining venues on property, Osteria La Canonica and two-starred Michelin restaurant, Campo del Drago. While both are exceptional in their own cuisines, I do wish there were more restaurants on-site. SPA: I had a facial and a deep tissue massage, but both were disappointing--overhyped and expensive for what you're getting. The facial felt like a basic cycle of product being applied and washed off x5. As for the deep massage, I fell asleep, which is never a good sign. I want to clench my teeth as knots and kinks are being worked out by a professional. Unfortunately, we never got there. ACTIVITIES: Since you're isolated on property, you can arrange for activities on/off property with guest relations. For on-site activities, transportation is complementary (ie: Brunello tasting, bicycling, golf). Unfortunately for off-site activities, expect to pay for transportation (ie: truffle hunting, horseback riding). While once again, pricey, you can't beat the experience at this beautiful property-- especially the truffle hunting! LOW: Being one of the event planners for my company's recent president's club trip, my only real critique was the lack of responsiveness to the various departments when coordinating via email -- especially as the date approached sooner. 5/5!!!

The room was clean and spacious, we never felt cramped. There is a small TV, telephone, air conditioning, mini bar, safe, wi-fi, bathroom with shower, hairdryer and toiletries. There was a large free private parking lot which was very convenient for us. The website said multilingual staff and that really wasn't the case it was Italian but we got by okay. The pool wasn't open yet but it looked really nice with lots of outdoor seating options. RESTAURANT: Breakfast Buffet: Included every morning was a selection of home-made bread, cakes, pies, croissants, biscuits, cold meats and salami, cheeses, boiled eggs, assorted cereals, various jams, honey, chocolate, yogurt, fresh seasonal fruit and dried fruits, a wide selection of tea, fruit juices, cold milk and hot beverages including made to order espresso drinks. ****BEST CROISSANTS I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE**** Dinner: Definitely make a reservation - this was one of my favorite restaurants in my 9 days of Italy including three Michelin star restaurants, this place topped all three of those restaurants for value, flavor, presentation and service. Buffalo Caprese salad with "Cuori di Bue" Tomatoes *it was the best buffalo mozzarella I had the whole trip and plenty to share Pici Pasta, cheese, black pepper and bread crumbs *pasta tasted homemade and great combo and portion of cheese, black pepper and bread crumbs - a perfect texture Baked Eggplant, cheese and tomato *hearty and tender eggplant, the tomato was rich and flavorful "Cannellini" beans and fresh onion salad *so my friend doesn't like beans but he said these were the best beans he's ever had, the portion is also generous

Look, folks, this place isn't for everyone. You have to want to stay in an out of the way…read moreplace.... One star: Absolutely the worst time getting to our B&B in the 13th century Castello di Ripa d'Orcia, because there is no local street address per se and the GPS coordinates (be sure your device is set to travel on unpaved roads) or you may drive around in circles...So, we arrived in the dark having gone through the same nearby town twice! Turned off the GPS and navigated to the nearest village, San Quirico d'Orcia, and then followed their numerous signs out of town on Via G. Garibaldi for approximately four kilometers along an unpaved gravel road, with lots of ruts. Five stars: for the location! The place has loads of character, because you arrive at the 13th century castle gates and beg admission at the portal. Lots of cats around. Fascinating place to explore...old carts from 1943, 1960, and later. The grapes have been harvested and are hanging in one of the outbuildings. Three stars: there is no wifi in the room, the wifi is only in a common room in a building across the way, which is so cold you won't want to use it long in late October. The bedroom, number 15, has a wonderful beam and terracotta ceiling, though. Good hot water, large fluffy, white bath sheets in a generous bathroom with ironically, a handicapped toilet, which no handicapped person could possibly get to having to go up two sets of stairs to this room. No particularly fabulous view from this room. Four stars: The breakfast is more than adequate, the croissants are really good, and the coffee great but you have to know that I generally don't drink watery, American coffee, but here the strong, smooth cappucino is excellent. And, dinner is not to be missed. We had a bruschetta, followed by a Tagliatini alla carbonara sauce (bacon with noodles), a mixed grill of a wonderful melt in your mouth salsicce (aka sausage of either veal, pork, or beef and spices in a casing), pork with tomato and beans, and turkey, and then to sum it up with a very chocolaty, tiramisu with three or four layers, and not too cloyingly sweet tiramisu. By the way, if you can find it try their 2011. It scores 91 points in Veroncelli, the Italian gold guide. So make a dinner reservation. Overall, a delightful place to stay if you understand where you are...
