I came to Castello de Velona in September 2024 for a wedding. I can't tell you what a lovely place…read morethis is. The service is impeccable, the rooms cozy and the grounds and the view are amazing! I ended up renting a car and driving in from Firenze, which was not only a great option but an easy drive through the many vineyards in Tuscany. Upon arrival I was greeted by valets ready to help you with your car and help you unload your luggage. Upon entering, you're greeted by a beautiful restored castle with many pathways, that are intriguing. My room was nice, we had a small living room with a great view of the rolling knolls. I felt warped back in time. The upgrades give this place a nice touch of elegance and charm that made me feel right at home. The thermal waters that flow through their pools are both healing and relaxing. The staff is readily available to take ANY request. I honestly felt like royalty here. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner here. My only gripe is with myself, I wish I was more adventurous with their food. I have to admit, as an American, I'm used to large portions and feeling stuffed afterwards. I did not feel that here, in fact, the food was just enough and their wine and cocktails options were on par with my expectations. Come here to relax, come here to indulge in great service and delicious food. Come here because you need to get away from the city. You will not be disappointed.

Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco - The most beautiful perfect room

It's no surprise CdB is consistently ranked among the top hotels in the world (#1 in the world by Travel + Leisure in 2022). The service and staff are unparalleled. The views are breathtaking no matter where you are onsite, especially waking up to it if you have a patio. PRICE: For the most cost-efficient room, rates run at €4,000 per night. DINING: There are only two sit-down dining venues on property, Osteria La Canonica and two-starred Michelin restaurant, Campo del Drago. While both are exceptional in their own cuisines, I do wish there were more restaurants on-site. SPA: I had a facial and a deep tissue massage, but both were disappointing--overhyped and expensive for what you're getting. The facial felt like a basic cycle of product being applied and washed off x5. As for the deep massage, I fell asleep, which is never a good sign. I want to clench my teeth as knots and kinks are being worked out by a professional. Unfortunately, we never got there. ACTIVITIES: Since you're isolated on property, you can arrange for activities on/off property with guest relations. For on-site activities, transportation is complementary (ie: Brunello tasting, bicycling, golf). Unfortunately for off-site activities, expect to pay for transportation (ie: truffle hunting, horseback riding). While once again, pricey, you can't beat the experience at this beautiful property-- especially the truffle hunting! LOW: Being one of the event planners for my company's recent president's club trip, my only real critique was the lack of responsiveness to the various departments when coordinating via email -- especially as the date approached sooner. 5/5!!!

There were three of us staying together and we got very comfortably into a room with a double bed and sofa bed. I stayed in November so it was quite quiet which has it's own benefits, but I can only imagine how gorgeous it is over the summer with their beautiful pools and gardens. This is a spread out, commune-wide hotel concept with properties that span along the two main drags in town. I enjoyed my stay at the core hotel, with easy, free parking right nearby. You walk a gorgeous stroll to breakfast each morning along a flowery corridor over to the Antico restaurant. The included breakfast is by far the best hotel breakfast I've encountered, with breads, a few different menu options, fresh juices, full coffee bar, and loving staff. I enjoyed journaling and eating both mornings of my stay and also appreciated how beautifully decorated the space is. My room was great, though up three flights of stairs (not uncommon for any stay in Italia). A very comfortable bed and welcoming front desk staff that helped me book a massage appointment, discover the best and open parts of town, and also hooked me up with a complimentary beverage upon arrival in the hotel's living room space. What could be better? While I was travelling and staying here solo, this is truly a couple's paradise. They have a dedicated couples spa area and packages set up, gorgeous wines available at the bar and restaurants, and romantic gardens to stroll all through town. Hospitality at it's finest and if I ever need a home base while I am in Tuscany (if you're looking to explore the wine regions of Montelcino/ Montepulciano or the hot spring regions of Bagno Vignoni / Saturnia - this is the spot for you) this is where I'll stay. Note: not accessible without a rental car. I looked up 100 different ways to avoid driving and, while in Tuscany, you simply need a car. I took a bus from Florence to Grosseto and rented my car there so to avoid having to drive in any city centers - a great plan that served me well. It's then an hour drive into San Quirico d'Orcia. Happy exploring!

One has to drive around the hillside if you are approaching from Rome, so you get to appreciate the majestic buildings. The road in is cypress-lined and magnificent. The car park is a little ways away from the hotel, so th staff comes out with a golf cart to bring you and your luggage up to the reception, where you get greeted by a glass of Banfi wine! It is always available as courtesy either in the reception or the library (which is in the castle). The 14 rooms are in the old homes of the supporting help for the castle, so each is different and unique. We had the Principessa, located just across the cobblestone path from the cafe/bar and the swimming pool. It was the old schoolroom for the children of the workers, with a beautiful view to the west, overlooking the vast vineyards extending down the hill. There was a courtesy bottle of Banfi prosecca awaiting us. Since the weather was so hot (~40 degrees C), the fact that we had excellent AC was much appreciated. We enjoyed the solitude of the swimming pool at sunset, the bar with excellent wine and cocktails and small plates, the breakfast buffet and the excellent gourmet restaurant. Dining outside late in the evening, we enjoyed a thoroughly leisurely Italian dinner, with some excellent local recipes updated for the modern palate. The location is perfect for exploring the town of Montalcino and the surrounding countryside, i.e., wineries! Poggio Antico is nearby, but our favorite, Caparzo was a little drive on the opposite side of the town. A car is a must to get around Tuscany, but well worth the cost. Our biggest problem was finding and figuring out the car washes (lavatorias), since the dusty back roads left the car covered in dirt! We thoroughly enjoyed our few days in the countryside before heading onto the cities of Siena and Firenze. Now we just need to figure out when we can go back!

Montepulciano is one of my husbands and my favorite places on earth. We have been traveling here…read moreover the years and have never had a disappointing stay. We have made friends and lasting memories. This stay was just spectacular and the exact kind of pampering and luxurious experience we were hoping for. We decided, this time, to stay at the Palazzo Carletti. The Palazzo Carletti is a gorgeous piece of historical elegance. We knew a little bit about the history of this building. For example, it was the communist headquarters during World War II. Interesting right? During that time many of the magnificent ceiling frescoes had been enclosed to conserve energy/heat. When the new owner broke through the ceiling barrier to expose these great frescoes, I can only imagine his excitement. The Palazzo Carletti is a boutique hotel nestled right up from the wonderful Cafe Polizziano, right in the heart of the highest mountain town in Tuscany, Montepulciano . This special hotel has only 5 rooms that are accessed off of the grand room that drips in history and beautiful frescos. The family that owns this gem are exemplary hosts and we felt like the most special people on earth during our stay. The concierge was just lovely. She was so elegant and composed in her position and ensured our stay here was a perfect 10. The breakfasts that are served in the grand room each morning were fantastic. We had the great fortune of staying in the Albany Suite and it was amazing. Ceiling frescoes, luxurious bedding, super modern bathroom, to die for, and a perfect Tuscan view from our balcony where we drank our cappuccino each morning...... The Dolce Vita!!
