This life decision was spurred by my daughter's (age 4) interest in books and reading! We found the Covington library and we were thoroughly impressed. The lay out of the library is well designed and easy to find the kids section. There are computers available to use and I was partial to the vending machine for snacks. There are private rooms to reserve and plenty of space to move about. The book selections were vast and the staff was very helpful when we signed up for our library card. The nice thing is that you can return your books to any king county library so even if we're not near covington, we have options. Excited we found this location!

I did not recognize the library at all after 17 years. If it had not been for the road leading in, the library would've been completely unrecognizable. The entrance has wood plating and very modernized lighting. The inside looked more like a study lounge in a college than a college. The library is still modest in size but was very new and had a lot of natural lights from the windows. There was a computer lounge as well as many study rooms and one meeting room. I have to admit, I almost miss my old library but I can't deny how attractive the new designs were. They have a check yourself-out-station, which was pretty neat as you don't have to wait in line during busy hours. While not extravagant, this will always have a special place in my heart.

If you use this option there are some shelves just off your right as you enter and they will be listed in alphabetical order of your last name. Right next to it are the self-check out computers, there are also some receptionists that can help sign you up as well as help you with any questions. Overdue books cost $0.10 a day, you can pay online, as well as extend the check out of a book you currently have if you're not ready to return it. If that book has been put on hold by someone else however, you will have to return it or pay the daily fee. There are some study areas, some study rooms that I believe you can reserve. There are also public computers and empty desks to work at. Very nice, clean location!

Looking for a new book to add to my reading pile, I stopped by Federal Way Library at about 1:30…read morep.m. on Saturday 9 March 2024. The parking lot had two lots that I saw. The first was parking around the road of a roundabout with a hoisted rocks art piece in the center. The second was a lot tucked behind and across from parking on one side of the roundabout. The entrance to the building was easy to spot and benches to the side of the entrance and in the entryway were in use by library patrons. Inside the entrance and to the right were water fountains, restrooms, and group rooms/spaces for different usage. There was abundant work space with table(s) and computer(s). Chairs/other seating was available throughout the library. In the non-fiction section I found the aisles labeled by approximate topic. Looking for something in finance/economics, I found the section in a second row of the stacks. One book on the restaurant industry from an operations perspective caught my eye, so I went with that one. Self check out stations were located across from the main walkway from the entrance into the library. Checking out was straightforward and both the computer and receipt printer had no issue(s). Librarian stations were located off to one side, opposite the side with the water fountains and multi-use rooms, closer to the entrance.

There are more and more people sleeping, snoring and eating in the library than ever before. When I was there on Sept 6, 2026 I moved around quite a bit trying to find a quiet place to read and counted three people asleep on the left side of the desk, one covered herself with a blanket and a table full of people loudly eating food. In the back there were two people sleeping and one snoring. On the right side of the desk there was a lady eating potato chips loudly from a bag. Somebody help us we are getting invaded by the sleepers and the eaters in the libraries.

I have no idea why they didn't built a bigger parking lot when we forked over the money for a new library. AND, all the branches have reduced hours! That said, I love the library. I order absolutely anything online, including rare books they don't even have in the King County Library System, AND THEY GET THEM FOR ME! No joke, and I've requested some obscure non-circulating items from hundreds of miles away. KCLS copied it for me. We get DVDs. Pretty much anything you can think of. Love, love, love, LOVE the King County Library System!

But the past few times, my experience here has been extremely poor. The staff is great, but the parents who bring smaller kids to this library doesn't enforce proper library etiquette. Every time I have come here over the past 6 months, there were screaming kids, unattended kids running around making a lot of noise. These parents have to teach the kids the library is meant for quiet learning and reading and should not create distractions to others. I wish the staff spoke up to the parents who are letting these practices happen. The nearby libraries like Covington, Maple Valley ones are extremely good in managing the noise.

There is a good selection of materials for all ages, ample computer access, plus a dedicated space for children. The art deco design makes the library stand out and I hope it will never get renovated! This is a library for people who just wish to visit an actual library. Too many public libraries want to embrace fads and trends that distract from the fundamental mission (i.e. supporting access to ideas and entertainment). It is so refreshing to visit a library that emphasizes the basics.

I have visited after it's reopening. My son's school had library days once a month during the latter part of school year. If your child go to school in Tacoma, then they most likely have a library account through Pathways. It allows them to check out 5 books at a time. We have joined the Summer Reading program. There are museum passes here if you want to go with your library card. That is awesome for the library system offers this! I will update this again because I need to take pictures and inquire about more things this library offers. So far I put materials on hold and pick them up. They do offer hotspots to checkout. Those are high demand. Those take a while to get. This library is closed on Mondays. This library is on the bus line. However some residents can ride the bus or ride their bikes to the library. There is some parking spaces at the entrance. I definitely believe this public library is worth visiting and staff here are awesome. They are very eager to help.

The building itself is pretty spacious, but you can tell some of the facilities are on the older side. The restroom was out of order during my visit, and overall the space felt a little dated. What really stood out, though, was the staff. I watched three different librarians patiently help someone with a computer issue for almost an hour, which honestly says a lot about how dedicated and kind they are. Even with the older interior, the service here makes this library a solid community spot.
